My sympathies....

My sympathies to all who remain unfamiliar with the Dead and have not a clue what they're missing out on. I am talking about music appreciation on an unprecedented level and while I understand that it is an acquired taste (I didn't exactly immediately "get" it at first either but "Without a Net" sucked me in). I sneak the Dead into the background when I have friends over or when driving here or there with the hope that I might turn them on to it... not the easiest of challenges but it is a must! When was the last time another band or performer (Jerry) sent such shivers down the spine at that peak moment in a song? So do those near and dear to you a favor and help them wake up to find out that they are the eyes of the world. One way or another this darkness got to give.

In our high schools today

I am going into 10th grade, and last year I noticed that no one was Really in to the Dead, THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. If more people listened to the Grateful Dead, the world would be a happier place, for more reasons than just the music!!!

Could use some community help

Not sure if this qualifies as an "announcement", but I figured I'd throw in my post and, if it's not appropriate, Marye can take it down. Was on tour pretty steady from late 70's thru mid-80's, then spent the next 10 years or so seeing the boys as often as I could till Jerry passed. Now I see who I can when they swing through town. Still lovin' it. I'm also a filmmaker who recently had a film taken away from me by some rather nasty producers who re-cut it from scratch and turned it into the polar opposite of everything I spent 8 years trying to get made. They released it to dvd with my name still attached as writer and director. I'm now in the midst of a grassroots campaign to get my cut of the film released and I need all the support I can muster up. I've got a web site that includes a petition (really need those signatures), an interview documentary with cast and crew, journalists/writers all talking about the Writers & Director's Cut and why it should be out there, written interviews, articles, etc.. I won't go on as all the information you need is at the web site. All I'll say is I managed to finish the film AFTER it was taken away from me and the response has been beyond incredible. I'll tell you right now that it is a thought-provoking supernatural thriller dealing with some very relevant social issues that was turned into a 2-dimensional horror film once Screen Gems became attached as the film's distributor and Clive Barker's name thrown above the title. If you have ANY interest in artists' rights or even in just adding your name to support this film and myself, It would be greatly appreciated. Take a look at the site and decide for yourself. 1971 RESEARCH PROJECT

Good morning rockers!!!! As many of you may or may not know, I am a bit of a “1971 Dead fanatic”. I have taken on a slightly ambitious project, documenting all 1971 Dead shows, the end result of which I hope will combine numerous “facts/factoids” about shows with recollections of folks who actually attended Dead shows in 1971. In order to accomplish this, I need the help of the Dead fan community. ALL contributions will be properly and specifically credited. If you attended ANY shows in 1971 and have ANY recollections to share, PLEASE consider participating. Please PM me for details. While of course I’m happy to hear from anybody who attended “classic 71 shows” such as Port Chester, Fillmore East, Harding Theater, Felt Forum, etc., I’m particularly interested in hearing from folks who may have attended lesser known, “out of the way” shows, such as: 1/21/71 Davis 1/22/71 Lane Community College 3/5/71 Oakland 4/14/71 Bucknell 4/18/71 Cortland 6/21/71 Chateau d’Herouville 8/4/71 Terminal Island 10/19/71 Northrop Auditorium 11/11/71 Atlanta 11/17/71 Albuquerque In addition, if ANYBODY out there has “paper ephemera” related to 1971 shows, Please consider participating. Wolf on the block for SPLC

(posted from PM) My name is Stephen Francis, I work at Guernsey's Auction House based in NYC, and on May 31st, we are hosting an auction of Jerry's guitar, "Wolf," at the Brooklyn Bowl with all proceeds going to support the Southern Poverty Law Center. Here is the breakdown of the event: On May 31, Guernsey's will be conducting an unprecedented one-lot auction of Wolf, Jerry Garcia's beloved guitar. The event is being held at NYC's wonderful Brooklyn Bowl and will include an evening of great music leading up to the auction. Proceeds from the sale of Wolf are directly benefiting the Southern Poverty Law Center, a fantastic non-profit organization dedicated to fighting racism, poverty and hate groups. happy 22nd birthday today to my youngest son, who sang along while I drove the car a couple of weeks ago to fire on the mountain from barton hall while home on semester break , who gets his old man excited with his text pics of his being inside barton hall on each visit while participating in track events, and who tried like hell to get tix for barton hall last May to experience the music together with his dad albeit unsuccessfully; dude you have brought so much more happiness to your parents life's than any event that I have ever related to you. I've been stuck in listening to GD concerts from 1981 for a month now, and unsure why, today subconsciously the answer, I celebrated birthday 22 in 1981. it left a smoking crater...it's a great time in your life, always enjoy it, explore by taking risks, be flexible, stay humorous, learn from mistakes, experiment as you know, remain respectful, love unconditionally, have clarity, and always remain true to yourself as you continue building your life. I love you! your Dad aka uncle_tripel lol

It's a good age for advice, too, because while you still aren't necessarily ready to take it onboard, you're aged far enough to gain that ability to ponder received advice and "hear it" (rather than just remembering it after the fact, and perhaps ruefully nodding in mute agreement)

You say your youngest runs track? I guess it's indoor at this time of the year, hence the Hall. What events does he run if I might inquire? I ran middle distance - so I wasn't quite a "long distance runner" although I did run 6-7 miles a day in training/practice, and I did sometimes ask myself what I was standing there for

Surgery

Had my second Mastectomy today.
First one was in 2004.
No more lumps for me!

...early this AM from my "long distance runner", YES! he's running (which event...details to follow) at Barton Hall next weekend; so my wife and I will be packing lunch with snacks, and selecting tunes [oh that's a tough decision, WRONG!] for our ROAD TRIP!

ROAD Trip...

to BARTON HALL on Saturday! My dude is running the mile (1,600 meters). My wife is besides herself, it's an 8-hr R/T day for an estimated 4 1/2 minute event, but she doesn't yet know the play list lol (5.8.77 / 5.2.70 / 11.6.77 / 9.28.76); those should keep me rollin' down the interstate...and away we GO!

...we drove on Saturday. A great day-trip. Saw our long distance dude compete in the mile, and scored points for the team at Barton Hall. Back home before the sun went down. On the ride up listened to May 8, 1977-11-06 Broome Arena on the ride back, located a mere 5 miles from McIntosh Labs in Binghamton, NY; Sure sounds like there were some new amps on stage that night, especially JG's Travis is screaming. Now I understand how there came to be so many HOT shows in upstate NY, proximity to McIntosh Labs, an easy drive over to the candy store lol; we have some new toys up here, C'mon, let's plug in!

Another Surgery

Went for the follow-up appointment on my mastectomy today. Lots of fluid buildup around the breast, which was too thick to draw out with a needle. Got to go under the knife again next Monday to drain this fluid off.
I must admit I'm not too crazy about having to dance with Propofol this often.
