That should read 'Rainbow Theatre" (English spelling - or 'The King's English' as the old folks used to say. ) April 21st, 1981, my fourth time seeing the band. 'The Rainbow' used to be 'The Finsbury Park Astoria', a 1930's Art-Deco cinema. By this time all the seating had been removed, but the gently sloping floor meant you got a good view of the band wherever you were standing. For me one abiding memory is during 'Drums' what looked like a huge Irish bhodran drum, made for some mythical giant, was lowered down. When Micky started striking that with a big mallet you could feel the vibrations (physical, not metaphorical) hitting your chest, and we were about a third of the way back from the stage! When I first started using a computer (around 2002) I borrowed all of Rainbow tapes from a local Dead Head (Kozmic Ken) and stored them on a hard drive, but I was never sure which show I went to so did nothing after listening to them. Then around April last year I was sorting through stuff to see what to keep or throw out when I came across a GD programme from Radio City NY. Wondering where the hell it came from as I was looking through it the ticket stub for the Rainbow fell out.
