    Hi all!

I hope you are all enjoying a peaceful day or night depending on your longitude. I am very lost and I’m hoping a kind soul can guide my walk. I want to find my American Beauty. I’ve splashed many ripples as I have traveled alone. Gratefully I’ve seen much within this box of rain but my attic craves my sugar magnolia.

I cannot tell friend from devil. I do not even know if I am asking correctly or if I can even ask... but if you have a warrant, I guess your gonna come in. So Hey! Can any one honestly help me because I will keep truckin. Enjoy all you can!
    J.

    I'm a new member to this…

I'm a new member to this site but a dead fan since the late 60s. The first concert I attended was May 9, 1970 at the Cage at Worcester Polytech. I sat on the oval track above the band, our feet dangling near their heads. I went out and bought beer for the band at the first break and came back to the gym and the audience was down to 75. Second set went on for hours and they rocked. Very intimate. Friend of the Devil and Deep Elam blues were special. Next time I saw them was their long sound check at Watkins Glenn.

    Just received the 15 CD…

Just received the 15 CD Liberty box set in Australia. The sound quality and the music are amazingly clear and absorbing. And thanks also for the streamed One More Saturday Night. That was my first experience of Dead & Co with John, Jeff and Otiel. The band sounds wonderful, and the DeadHead comments very welcoming. Incredibly generous and community building when we all need it. Thanks so much.

Great $0.02 - Enjoyable history lesson. I've had both those shows on tape for a quarter-century now... will have to pull them out to do the comparison of Jack Straws. Thanks!

...Straw from one show to another, so this would be a fun comparison

Uh, so, this Dekalb '77 show is somewhat legendary, and I read Dave's intro to it, and listened to Jack Straw with an open mind. As a Deadhead since the early mid-70's, who eventually migrated, landed, live, procreated in the promised land, aka Bay Area, and greater NorCal, I feel as though I have a pretty fair grasp of what an amazing GD performance entails, as I've seen these guys do their thing live around 300 times, with dozens of other Jerry Band, and various other related band member side shows under my belt, as well. This version of J Straw was pretty good, a couple of clunkers aside, and, I would certainly not judge the rest of the show from that fact, as I know that...pretty good can quickly turn amazing, but...I guess I'll have to listen to the entire tape of the show again, something not done in years. By comparison, the J Straw from New Haven Coliseum from May of that same year, a show which i attended, in my opinion included one of the greatest versions of this epic Bobby tune ever performed or recorded. Of course it was eventually released as part of Dick's Picks 25, which was very satisfying, and provided somewhat belated validation to the opinions of myself and friends that this was also an epic performance that ranks high in the pantheon of killer shows...including the many NYE shows, Greek and Warfield and Oakland Auditorium, and other shows I've seen from AK to MA. Parts of this show are, quite simply, some of the greatest music i've ever seen, and I've pretty much seen most great rock, blues, jazz artists who have performed live since...the mid-70's. I think a quick listening/comparison of...the two Jack Straws is warranted. I plan on playing both shows, back-to-back for comparison, and, while this is not a contest, I am interested in the sound, interplay/improvisational quality, and...the purity and quality of the individual songs, and how the whole coalesces. Hey, what better way to spend a rainy Winter Saturday afternoon. Don' answer that.
As to the new site...So I'm having a little trouble figuring out where I should'a directed this 2-cents worth of opinion, as it just isn't clear what forum/forums pertain to what, or if there is a general comment forum, or...i dunno.
I don't get to shows anymore(D&Co), though have made it to TxRoads a couple years ago to see Phil+ outside...a great venue! But...there is a lot of amazing, jamming, heartfelt music in r&r, blues, country/swing coming out'a NorCal these days, and...I often hear the influence of the solid ground and vast body of improvisational work "the boys"(sorry DJ) have laid down and pioneered for the past 50+ years. Hopefully, somewhere JG can hear, and is smiling. In that sense...The Dead will truly never die. Absolutely part of the collective musical cultural consciousness of their time, into the future. Yip.

How do I make a post? I am throwing a music festival for the rainforest action network called box of rainforest and am looking for sponsorship to pay the bands so we can fundraise money for the organization

I wanted to post this in the Websites sub-forum but that one seems to be locked down. I tried to log in to deadnetcentral.com today for the first time in about a year and it looks like the site is down. I guess that was inevitable but does anyone know when it happened? thanx.

RIP Jer, miss you man...

Duppy, from what I can tell, DNC is indeed gone, but many of its residents have a FB group and I think there is a restoration effort in progress.

My love and condolences to all of us out there as Phil passed on yesterday. Heartbreaking and sad.
So many memories of Boxes of Rain and roaring applause for the shy bassist. Good times.

Put show date in search field.
Once on show "mark as attended".
If you want them to be listed on your page in chron. order you have to enter them 1 by 1 in that order.
Good luck and cheers
Edit: BTW your guess on 30 days is way off. Hint; it's later in that iteration of the band.
