5/4/91 Cal Expo
Middle show of 3. This Cal Expo run was only time I saw the band during the Hornsby era. But, as it turned out, he had a prior commitment and so Vince was playing solo and my first time hearing his keyboard work. First night didn't really click (for me) but this, the second night was dialed in. Solid second set (this JOTW features pre-drums Set II) and a bunch of us crazies were howling like wolves from in front of the right stacks. Bob gave us that what is up with you folks look at some point. First set had a Race is On(!) and finished with New Speedway > Music Never Stopped. Back to Hornsby not being there > I saw Bruce twice as a guest before Brent passed - 6/25/88 Buckeye Lake and 12/10/89 LA Forum - but never saw him during that time he was in the band (sigh).
3rd show (5/5/91) in run was an afternoon show. It too was excellent. H>S>F to open Set I. Set II with a Trucking > Spanish Jam > Terrapin. Post drumz is currently on Tapers Section for this week.
Of note, at Shoreline the next week (5/12/91) Jerry went deep and covered It Takes A Lot To Laugh , It Takes A Train To Cry in Set I. In August (8/16/91), at Shoreline again, he went even deeper and played Dark Star in Set I.
