Debuting in 1970 and recorded for American Beauty, a version that included Ned Lagin and Howard Wales, Candyman was an always welcome addition to usually-first sets for the next 25 years

    Sweet Candy

This is a very nice version of one of my least favorite Grateful Dead songs. Don't know why but I've never appreciated the song...but this one, with the Midi and Smooth Vocal harmony is pretty Sweet.

Not sure why so many are worried about the bit-rate and not the point of the game (Where and When). Let's have some fun you all. Blessings

Both songs so far are 124 not 320. Is there a reason why? Most unusual.

Thanks Dave
Many references refer to unknown location, had to go to a few old places for a mention, even a compendium of sorts. Pretty sure I found it with an offhand comment on an old website i had used before, but as usual anomalies and such leave me unsure like the crowd applauding at end and such. but that was fun.

Just to satisfy everyone's technical needs, throw out a 1st audience tape from back when we used to ONLY get them in the parking lots..

Heard the warm up, the effects on Jerry's guitar, Jerry's solo sound and Bob's little post song warm up pieces and knew it could only be one year. Went to one of the shows on this run. All 3 had some great gems. Such a tour. Have fun w/this one and check out some surrounding show dates!

Great choice, I have always loved this number and this is a sweet one to revisit. See you cats tomorrow. Cheers.

Thank god we’ve still got YouTube… hate to be that person, but it was a pretty quick find.
Gonna be a tough month if RELISTEN (and probably the Internet Archive) keeps crappin’ out…

I was just there. As many have posted, you have to use the other driver, webamp something or other.
Post no guesses please.
And look to the bottom of the page JJC and you other lost sailors. Many previous posts on how to navigate this contest. Good luck to all.
Cheers

Relisten also works if you don’t want to use Webamp at archive.org (which is a little clumsy).

I was just on Relisten two or three minutes ago and it is working fine.

First 2 days at 64 KPS? What happened to the old "high quality" downloads?

This has happened in other years. They post low res files at first then finally realize the mistake and replace the them with higher res ones. You'd think that would be checked first by now.

Took a few tries, but nabbed it - I'm glazing over any remark drama this year altogether; just LOVE my other family here and for the next month have nothing left to do but...

Trying for an hour and can't find this Candyman. I want to win Friend of the Devils so BAD! :-0)). I listened to 271 versions of Jerry's 1st 6 notes and not one of them had Bob's C power chords chunking away (while somebody was looking at his amp... ;-) ) of the provided example. Come again?

Why is Bruce Hornsby not represented as a member in the photo section of Dead.net's Dead101. Bruce played over 100 shows, played with the boys for nearly 2 full years and was an integral part of the band continuing to function as a touring band after Brents' passing. In the least respect Bruce's part with a very honorable mention. Just wondering.

He was never an official member of the band. In fact, from what I understand, the reason he stopped playing regularly is because he was told he either had to join or stop touring.

My way to enter the answer isn't coming right up today. Scrolled the whole page and it's not there. So adding another comment to see if it will appear here now that I've pinned it down.

We're aware of the issue and the hi-def wavs will be along shortly if they're not there already. And now back to your regularly scheduled discussion...

This is what makes the week so fun. Pick an era, trust yourself, and when you hear it, you'll know immediately. After playing every year (not every song), I'm still looking for my first win. Wonder who has had their named pulled the most....?

Once you confirm today's correct Candyman, you might like to check out one of the audience recordings, as it so nicely picks up how the crowd responded to the song, and then all joined in with Jerry and sing along. It adds another dimension to remembering what it was like to be at shows so many roads ago...

Thanks Marye!
Amazing how some lose their dirt over free music. Every year my brother and I bet as to when we'll see the first, "We're X days in, and still no Pigpen. What a disgrace." post.

like me today for example. From the post Candyman noodling I was able to correctly identify the next tune played which significantly narrowed down the number of shows it could possibly be. And lo and behold the first show my finger landed on in my trusty Deadbase turned out to be the one we're all looking for! Sometimes you get lucky, and I'll take luck over skill every time.

"From the post Candyman noodling I was able to correctly identify the next tune played..." How, in God's name? I'm a musician and pretty dang well-versed in the repertoire, all I get is "some song in the key of C".

Really stumped on this one as well, great pick for Day 2 after a relatively easy Day 1.

The comment made regarding the noodling after the song made me even more confused though, as I spent a long time trying to deduce that to no avail. Some people just have an ear for this that I do not yet I suppose..

All I can say is this one has some pretty sweet playing by Weir..

I take em cause they are free. I hate digital music, I only buy analog vinyl
(no plangnet crap files on vinyl) I will not pay money for that.
MP3 are the worst.
PLEASE , stop putting plangent files on vinyl. save it for CD's.

I wouldn't call 10 seconds of short chopping as noodling...I've listened repeatedly with no recognizable tune in there...so yeah...must be luck, especially when there's almost 3 minutes of noodling after the song that still doesn't give me any clues to the next song... but I submitted my choice and it syncs perfectly.
