    Low-quality MP3s?

Is a fix for this issue still in the works? These files are only 64kbps...

Great news! Archive's 'player' is up & running!
And might I add a kind plug for them. Internet Archive has sure been hit hard lately with the cyber hack, and groups trying to shut them down. For all the joy we've rec'd, and how much they contribute to our playing this game and more, I invite you to join me in kicking some $ their way. I know they'd be ever grateful.

Time length on the Dead.net "BTW" from Nov.3 of 30Dead Days seems normal for that song.
What was downloaded to my iTunes was some over twelve minute behemoth of a "BTW" so what gives!? An error?

Something really odd about these mp3 files, apart from not being 320kbps. Once downloaded the properties come up as 124kbps which is completely non-standard - mp3 files are normally a multiple of 32kbps - and the track lengths don't agree - BTW shows up as 7.07 on-line but 7.19 once downloaded. Days 1 and 2 show the same variation, about 3percent longer (or could this be 4/128 longer). Someone who's into pitch correction might be able to compare the online playback with the download playback.

Agree with the comments about the files being weird. 99.9% sure I got this Black Throated Wind correct, but the speed is off from the Archive version by just the tiniest bit. Every time I had them synched up, one would start to fall behind the other. Maybe I’m just wrong lol

... so I went back to Archive and selected another version, which synched up perfectly with virtually no drift for minutes on end.

Definitely not complaining about free music! I believe I got this too, but the online and download lengths aren't jiving. And as Poneill378 said, it doesn't quite match with the Archive version I guessed. It's almost like one of the versions has been "speed corrected." I'm not that much of an audiophile, but maybe one of the experts here can weigh in.

I never had doubts about today's guess.
'So I give you my eyes, and all of their lies
Please help them to learn as well as to see'
Very fitting lyrics for this election time of year.
Love the Black Throated Wind! Very awesome version.
Thanks David!

Always my favorite Bobby tune- I feel blessed that they brought it back before the end. And this one is especially sweet- the outro is sheer perfection.
And congratulations to Martin from all us heads here in Stoneham!

I'm nostalgic for BTW, as I'm reminded of hitch-hiking from Red Rocks back to Golden Gate Canyon Campground high in the Rockies, getting a ride into the mountains from a BTW trucker at the junction of Rte 93 and Rte 70. My tour clan was confused as to which vehicle I was going to ride back to camp, and I got left behind. I was wearing bright yellow overalls and a Hog Farm Tie-Dye, long hair and beard, and I was told that I was lucky, hitch-hiking so late in the night post-show, as wolves were recently spotted in the area. And how can I not be reminded of BTW every time I drive through St. Louis crossing the country, which I have done 19 times coast to coast. A most memorable road trip was during a significant snow storm. I pulled into a truck stop to take a break from the difficult conditions, and it was as if I walked into a morgue. Truckers sitting at the counter on their round red naugahyde stools, hands on a cup of coffee, shoulders rounded, staring into nothingness. Apparently a trucker had died that morning in a snow-related accident on I-70. BTW indeed.
Hint: Today's show answer encore was only played twice as an encore according to DeadBase 50, assuming of course I got the correct answer.

Very lo-res files, are you going to fix these or is this it for the month? This has happened in other years but after a day or two the lo-res ones were replaced with better files.

There's daytime video footage of this concert on youtube. If anyone needs a link, I will share it. Tomorrow. :) It's historically interesting to see for sure.

Edit: CORRECTION: Never mind. I had the right date and year on the video, but it was the wrong month. I got the guess right, but there's no footage of this which I have found. It's still interesting to see, though.

Do you have to win a calendar to be entered for the box, or do you just need to guess one day correctly?

I have always loved this Weir/Barlow tune and with Phil up front and center from start to finish in this rendition it is very fitting. It was not so "easy" for me to find it but I did. Not sure work will be happy with me this month as I search for the where and when all month :-D. Cheers You All

This isn't it but found this one along the way that has a totally different twist on the keys for this era 10/23/1973 in Bloomington Mn. It's worth a listen. In the meantime, I am on to listen to the show from todays selection.

I'd have been looking all day. Tough without any clues on previous or next song. Still took quite a bit of DeadbaseX time before listening to two to nail it down. I try not to google things to get answers unless I'm desperate.

2 years were definitely on the dart board for this one. All about that end of the song Jerry lead guitar parts for determining it. Not related to today's selection but I found a great Scarlet from another night earlier in this year at a rarely played state and city: Jerry plays little tiny 2 string double stops on the high strings in the intro while Bob handles that lead gtr part that he does and some different keys sounds in the mix here and there. I also found that example that Bundubush spoke of! Speaking of different keys sounds. The things you find out along the way. Fun part of the journey.

Years ago on an inky night, high desert, late 90s, a one off tape trade, I met a fellow DH who taped this show. He spoke wide eyed of the encore. He duped me a cassette copy and I "remember" the first listen in the beat, leaky roof trailer I was renting. Shared it with a friend and, as it turned out, that audience became the only known circulating copy of the show at the time. Glad to find out that the sbd made its way to the vault. Hope to see this released.

The sweepstake is offered only to legal residents of the United States. Even if you could find the entry form, sadly you aren't eligible as you're in the UK. Yep, its discriminatory but there ya go.

crystal clear audio and nearly perfect synchronization make this one a joy to search out. And today's hint is actually very helpful in narrowing down the choices. Also, I'm a creature of habit so a big HOORAY! to the Archive for being back up and running normally again. There's no vember better than November if you're a DeadHead.

... about this is coming to a new appreciation of the songs through hearing several performances in a row, really listening close for those small bits that distinguish one from another. As a result, one hears the song itself simultaneously more deeply and broadly.
In a more general sense, I'm coming to actually like this song now.

While it's wonderful that we have this gift of free Mp3's every November, I have a proposal. Could you also offer lossless or hi-res formats for a small fee, like maybe $1 a song? I'm sure many fans would happily pay it to have better quality downloads. Thanks.

There are hundreds of opportunity's to purchase live dead recordings out there.
Why can't this just be what it is ?
Without spoillish complaints?
I would confirm your notion that some would PAY $1.00 per song for a pristine download.
But I hardly think that it would cover the cost of doing so.
I love the notion of 30 days of November being a non commercial release of unreleased treasures.

I received the daily prize a few times in the early years (twice when it was whoever submitted the first correct answer) and they contacted me via email confirming my shipping address. So if you do win, maybe check your spam folder and then contact dead.net after a few days have passed.

As far as I know, no winner of the annual grand prize has ever been identified - either by notification or by posting here in the comments.
