The PHIL ZONE
What a killer.... AH>>>>>>>NOOO> NO >NO> NO!
From start to finish it's absolutely a beautiful night here.
see here how everything lead up to this day
that transition from Space to Truckin' is exciting! the crashing noise near the end of Space is something I've never heard before...Healy? anyway, can I just say I've always loved the way Jerry sings, "I love.." in Black Peter. three excellent tracks today!
I call shenanigans. Pittsburg?!?
Pittsburg is in Kansas, though the PA city was spelled that way before 1910. Have to fix these things (a Felt Forum show in 94. Really?). Got lucky today and found it right away. Jerry’s voice kind of gave away the era and then Bobby’s guitar effects throughout Truckin made it easy to distinguish.
Stanley Theatre 12/1/79
Any self-respecting Head who had a cassette player in the 1980’s had a copy of this show. The HEY BOBBY, PLAY CHINA CAT banter at the beginning of set II is classic. I was a camp counselor the summer of ‘81 and I used to play this show (one of the first tapes I ever had and before I had ever seen the band) for my 13 year old campers and they loved it. The little Jerry riff in the China Cat intro still sounds as exciting now as it did oh so many years ago
Wrong answer
Now I need someone to tell me they're not eliminating correct answers, this is twice...
Got it on the 5th try
OK, it wasn't all that hard but I'd like to think I'm getting better at this, lol. Some very unique sounds in the space going into Truckin'.
Cheers
Get the H outta here
Curve ball after curve ball.
The fun never stops. :-)
You know Dave is messin with you if
He throws an Oakland show, San Jose or the Few S's under the W's at the bottom of the venue list. Makes Pittsburg or MSG Felt Forum a piece of cake, so many variations.
rasta5ziggy
There is a pic of the ticket and the backstage pass on jerrybase and both say Pittsburgh but ya can’t argue with the ref so just enjoy the ride.
Common combo in this era
Nearly the last show I saw at this venue that used to be one our staples before I headed to new lands. Almost skipped it over as the time didn't look right for a match of the various tunes ... glad I checked
Transitions and Distortions
Listened to a number of space>truckin' from different periods on this search - this one is one of the best, hints of the truckin' rhythm appearing then gradually strengthening until it opens right up. And Jerry's first solo on Black Peter is masterful (and good voice here too). "The people might know, but the people don't care". Sad but true.
But, man, that distortion! (and Healy's shenanigans?) - Bobby's guitar right up there in the mix and wickedly distorted at times. Yeah!
Putting the h back in Pittsburgh!
Please, please, please Dave, release this show. It’s been one of my favorites for 25 years, especially with all the great jams in the second set!
A most beautiful Space.
Mr. Spacely would be proud. But that poor, Poor Peter. Sometimes I think we should just let him die already, but I love hearing it so much that he's just going to have to wait. Hang in there Pete.
Ooooie Goooie Peter
Run and See This One, it's a Treat.
Let see how they spell it tomorrow :-D
3 Thoughts
1. Deep Purple: Space Truckin'
2. "Fat Man Rocks" or "Thin Man Spits"?
3. Not my first rodeo at this venue
What a long, strange trip it's been
All of my friends and I picked this place to go for many shows.
We always enjoyed to go run and see another show the day after.
And sometimes it certainly felt like the lights were all shining on me.
These shows were definitely not just like any other day.
Loving the 30 Days!
Bobby on Truckin'
Sounds like he is having trouble with his tongue and lips at the very least! Usually it's Jerry with the vocal flubs like that.
This was not to easy a search but not too hard either.
Drum Rolls and Whistles
So glad that little adventure didn't last long.
