Bob Of Rain was played live quite a bit in 1972 and 1973 before being dropped until its triumphant return in 1986. Mexicali Blues and Sugaree both debuted in 1971 and stuck around consistently until 1995, although Mexicli took a break (as did the Dead for much of the same time) in 1975 and 1976

How come you lay awake all night long?

Just enjoyed some time at a local cafe with a non-head friend, explained 30DOD to them. They were like huh? My point…we are so blessed to share this music together after all these years grateful forever! Thank you Dave & Co. for the gems, to hear these in vault quality is a treat all month long and much appreciated!

One more thing…did anyone see those photos from RFK that the guy just found in a shoe box? I guess his dad was a photographer and he just found them like last week? Unreal! Can’t do links etc. if anyone knows how to share let me know…

    Box of Phil

This version is especially beautiful as I have never heard the musical stops/break downs that allows the vocals to flow through the open space.
Not a hint per say but IMO folks are not wrong: I too am finding sequencing issues of the 3 numbers on the some of usual places of research.
The time period is clear and it does not take to much poking around to find the show in question.

was gonna comment these multiple song selections were making for some fine listening but pretty easy pickings. Thought the same when i saw todays but my usual techniques aren't producing the easy answer. some close arrangements but not the exact one. Guess this time requires a little more digging.

I find that not all sites have all the info, or correct info. It almost feels like Dave and Crew are pointing this out to us. I've learned to trust, but verify.

Thank you Dave and Crew!

Probably one of the most crystal-clear shows I've listened to in some time. Love the audience and the period that shows like this had been performed. I think one of the best touring years ever as others might look towards its competitor year. If you know, you know... Yeah, you know! Playing every day and listening to the complete show once found and that 1st set is very powerful, hold up the whole show is very powerful!

Once a set list is established on one of the sites, be it DEADBASE or the SETLIST PROGRAM or whatever, no one ever makes the effort to correct mistakes. The issue today is that one song is misidentified in all these lists, but the truth is out there- so these lists need to be fixed. The usual search will not help today.
MY HINT… I found today’s show by doing the most basic Internet search that one can do. So don’t think too hard and just get ‘er done….

Okay, forget only about half of what I said earlier. DEADBASE X does have it correct. I apologize to the authors and to everyone I steered incorrectly.
So today should be an easy one….

RIP Phil.
Thanks for sharing this Phil gem today David!
Cherish well your thoughts as you listen to this awesome trio.
Just one thing I ask of you, no matter how tempting, please do not post your guess for the date in comments. We know you are proud of your findings as you should be. Just ruins the hunt for others.
November is sure flying by.
Love will surely see us through these next 15 Days.

We're almost halfway home, I was thinking this all goes too quickly. Indeed, RIP Phil it has definitely all gone by too quickly but I am happy with the quick hunt today so I can queue up the show once I arrive at work this morning. From the Land of Lincoln wishing everyone and great day and nice weekend!

I did not have any problems finding today’s show using Deadbase 50, which is my first resource (I also have a beat up copy of Deadbase VI, which I use when I’m on the road because it’s a fraction of the weight!). It led me right to the show and then there it was on Relisten.

Setlist.fm was helpful for me today, once I got to the correct year. This is so fun and I look forward to November every year :) Got all but one right so far… that Casey Jones a week ago really stumped me! Happy hunting!

I'm kind of missing the hours spent listening to the minutia of variations show by show this year.

3rd day of only one choice...DB-X made it easy
Had never noticed before how many times MamaTried-Mexicali was played together
How does Dead setlists get it wrong?

I was born a month or so after this show. I often play shows on their anniversary, like so many others here, since I wasn't old enough to experience them in person. I have good memories from a few years ago of staying in a hotel for a week with a view of this venue (which happened to fall on the anniversary of these shows).

This was the first night of two in this venue, and the second night happened on my grandfather's birthday, whom I had just lost not long before. Just a Box of Rain...

Listening to these crispy boards while looking at the place where it was played just made me smile.

You can hear him say "good one" at the completion of Box Of Rain. My sentiments exactly! Miss you Phil:( Mexicali's pretty good as well, but this Sugaree definitely gets a highlight in my DeadBase. And in response to that one fan's query.......I'm happy to report that Mickey Hart is alive and well!

Was born here, well in the twin city of here. I was 10 years old at the time of this show, living in Green Bay WI and didn't know who the Dead were but whatever.

And all really good!
Agree with driftin and dreamin - the vocals on Box of Rain are well blended and the most beautiful of any version I've heard. And Phil! Man, I just love those thick, full bass tones during this period that seem to fill our bodies. Am I imagining or did he strum the first few notes of The Music Never Stopped during the bass doodling after Rain ended?
What a rockin' Mexicali Blues as well, Bobby really clean, Jerry at breakneck pace and rollicking - my kind of polka! But then it just ended, no jam? Oh well.
Like others, two sources came up empty but a quick search using the third led me to the right place. Another setlists whiff?!
This may not have been one of their standout concerts, but much thanks to David for pulling out the gems!

What a great Box of Rain. Certainly one of the better versions.
As for winning the daily contests, I've been doing this since the 2nd year and especially in the early years would get a high percentage correct, up to 80 or 90%. In the past few years closer to the 60-70%. In all these years I may have one a daily once, a long time ago, but that's a may and if I did I did not receive anything. This is not complaining as I enjoy this very much and it's all a gift. Just a grounding... to ease my soul.

I think this is the most spirited rendition of Box of Rain I've ever heard. Sprightly! What a treat! Thank you Dave Lemieux and the kind folks among TPTB! Grateful!

Hey Now,
Deadbase XI is available on the Internet Archive for FREE. It's searchable and you can download a PDF to your computer. This is a consolidated 273 page version of Deadbase (no pictures) containing venue/setlist information. It also lists the known audio sources in circulation as of 1998.
We are half way though 30 Days already!!

How cool is that! And yet another grate reason to contribute to Internet Archive as they're having some very hard times these days! Join me, won't you. Here's deep gratitude for all they've given us, and hoping they'll be here for generations to come!

My three online sources are no help, so I busted out the Deadbase 50 hardcover I almost forgot I had. Spent way too much time in there, and came up with nothing. THis one's a toughie!
