Also... you need to be logged in when guessing...

Also... you need to be logged in when guessing. You get much more streamlined answering options that way. "City, State, Venue" are all on one drop down that way. And you are not prompted to enter your first and last name. Just noticed this now. I must have restarted my machine and got logged out over the past 24 hours. I looked at the answering options and was scratching my head... hmmm... Why do they have so many entry fields today to try to guess the answer??? Oh yeah... looked at the upper right corner and bingo, no avatar pic. Aha... I am logged out. I logged in, refreshed and the entry form at bottom was back to good ol streamlined version.

Some great shows at this venue...

So many great shows at this venue. Both the overall band performance and sound quality are high up there on many tapes I have heard from this particular place.

Love that segment right at the beginning of today's offering w/the low low notes. Then the part after the 1st verse/chorus of Other One. Some interesting guitar notes going on there.

BTW - do not worry about the "spelling" or multiple venue names for the same place and what is on a ticket stub or what is on some website on the searches etc etc.... We have seen over the years that it does not matter what one chooses if there is any ambiguity. We have seen the same venue with slightly different naming come up on the revealed answer the next day. One year or one day the answer might show as "xxxx spelling venue with extra word" and... a different contest day or year the answer shows the venue name differently for the same place. What the website states here on the revealed answer the next day does NOT mean that one spelling or variant of a venue's name is "correct" or "incorrect". If you chose one variant and the answer came up differently with some other person's name as the winner it does not mean that you chose incorrectly. It only means that the "magic random ping pong ball picker" chose that other person's name and not yours. As long as you get the city/state/date and one of the variants of a confusing name of the correct venue then... you just might win for the day. We have seen this play out time and time again.

    Memories stirred by yesterday's choice

05-23-82 Greek Theater reminded me of 05-15-83 Greek Theater, which reminded me of John Cippolina of Quicksilver Messenger Service who joined GOGD for 'Not Fade Away' to end the 2nd Set. I remember a guy selling posters of the 83 Greek Show from his trunk of his car in the lot possibly in '84, which has Bobby with his index finger in the air, John Cippolina on stage to the left of Jerry, and Jerry with his head tilted to the right, with Phil far stage right, and Brent far stage left, and the drummers are both easily seen: a masterful photo. There is also a mic with a foam cover to the left of the photo. If you search images for this said show you'll see what I'm writing about. I saw Cippolina play in Portland, OR at The Starry Night on 07-14-83 with The Dinosaurs, including Barry Melton, Robert Hunter, Peter Albin, Spencer Dryden, and guests: Jim Page, and Novato Frank Bonomolo. That night was so cool, until I saw Ken Kesey and Ken Babbs playing the Thunder Machine on stage during Space of the 05-08-84 show at Silva Hall, The Hult Center, Eugene, OR, which was just a tad cooler IMHO. The GOGD have a way of playing on another level when there has been a death in the family, and Jed Kesey had passed away in January of '84 when the University of Oregon Wrestling Team's van lost control on an icy road in southeastern Washington. In knew those roads well, as I was a college alpine ski racer/coach competing and traveling in the PNW from '82-'87, and I remember hearing the news of Jed on TV. Lucky we can all be here now. We have so much to be thankful for in the grand scheme of life.

Definitely appreciating the deep bows to Phil all thru these 30 Days. Thank you, Dave!

This one, also an easy find. LOTS of helpful hints throughout the piece. Happy search to yuhs.

If that doesn't wake you up, nothing will! There are a lot of these over the years, but some pretty obvious clues make it fairly easy to find, although still tricky!

Great selection from DL and the team for today. Thought this might be a struggle but surprisingly simpler than originally thought. Got it with first on my shortlist of options. Quite a few aural clues to help.

Good luck everyone!

Jump glitch during Wharf Rat - missing a small segment there.
Otherwise a great recording and a super post!

The sound quality is fabulous. They play off each other in with intense contribution. We get the PHIL BOMBS, Jerry's noodling which are both incredible. Our drummers are having a thunderous night with Bobby shining on rhythm. One of the most remarkable spotlights could be the vocal and harmonies are in Q this night. Yes, that's all of them. Another forgotten underrated show so I must say again.
Give it a Listen!

Another selection where I knew there'd be a ton, so I settled in for a long search. A close listen will narrow it down very quickly.

There's at least one copy of the soundboard on the Internet archive where the missing segment of Wharf Rat is replaced with an audience recording, if you are interested.

That line was probably edited out for some radio show or other reason where the word F*UCKERS would not have been appreciated.

Just one little hint for today- the usage of the word “jam” can sometimes be very subjective. As discussed previously, once a set list is “written” it is as if it is set in stone…

What a nice way to get a new start on this 24th Day.
I think hearing Bobby and Donna belt out sunshine daydream can make happy any man alive.
I get chills when hearing Jerry come on out singing the lyrics to Wharf Rat.
Looking forward to wandering around these next 6 Days.

Tremendous stuff today - what a grate start to a Sunday. Definitely been some beauties in this 30 days too.

@Vorpal43 Someone did a nice job with that WR edit on the Archive eh! The little things you find along the way are the real treasure in the hunt when searching for the sound.

based on band that is playing and who they are i cannot find it during that time span.
two different band members overlap coming and going but the choices in between don’t come anywhere close to this amazing truly beautiful piece of music.
THEIR ARE NO HINTS IN THAT STATEMENT AT ALL
Guess i will take break and start again with a different approach.
Am actually reading setlists show by show to see if anything even close.
Extremely frustrating after all these years this one should not be so difficult.
( thanks for letting me blow off some steam)

maybe fellow old timer can send private message to help. yes i know all about the word jam and its connotations so i purposely started furthur down.
Once again it is sunday and i am retired and it is too cold to go out so plenty of time if i have to listen to them all.
GOT IT, FINALLY. DIFFERENT TAPERS SCREWED ME UP BUT CUES FINALLY APPEARED.

And once again, I get dinged for choosing the wrong spelling and going with the Americanized version of the word rather than the King’s English. Knew it would be a problem as it’s been for other choices. Got lucky in finding today’s pick; found it from the Bobby mumble.

A Chillin Wharf Rat IMO, Absolutely Beautiful.

Plus that female voice harmonizing with the male voices on different songs is especially sensitive and gentle and IMO the Bass Player is VERY Strong Here. :-D

Sundays are for football, RED ZONE BABY. Peas'

that confirmed it.
but when i look at a setlist that has wharfrat UP in the first set i move on.
when you choose your date you get several tapers recordings to listen to. one prominent one is a friend and i trust him implicitly but his name was not offered. my platform had four, two of them had wild set lists, one had good set list but taping was scrambled, finally went to fourth one after a mumble sent me back and all fell in to place.
the actual dod is amazing music.
now i must listen to whole show.
thanks for helping out people it helped but should not have given it away to others.
cool beans
peace

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other name would smell as sweet." The gang was feeling pretty loose this night. My first impression after listening had me two years too early. It's definitely The Other One.......other than the lyrics. Chief just wasn't ready to sing it apparently. Good sleuthing and good luck to all.

Could yesterday's generous Greek offering be an indicator of Picks to come? Finally some official release from the Greek Theatre? If so, why now and not before? If not, why not ever until now? I know this is a familiar question/debate for many of you listeners out there but I'd love to hear some POVs. Peace!

I'm not that much into commenting on previous posts but I had to at this point. I see that a few here like to give away hints or clues into finding the correct show of that day. Look it's not that I'm desperate to win and be sent a calendar or win the big prize. It's the hunt and it brings many shows to go back on and enjoy. I myself could and will purchase such items. Please let us who like the hunt do it at our own free will. STOP WITH THE CLUES, NAMES, DATES, STATES AND VENUES.
