Not quite the same but still great. Vassar was on over 200 albums and starred or featured in 40 or more. Bio said he didn't read music. Taught himself to fiddle at age seven. How did I never notice he was on Wake of the Flood?

Oro - Yeah that was actually a couple of TDs later in the 3rd quarter. So many little mistakes that cost Denver big in time of possession. Like dropping every pass that hit you square in the hands. Not diving for the 1st down instead of taking it to the sideline (not 2 min. drill so it wasn't to stop the clock). It was 3 downs and punt all day. Highlight was the fake punt though it was a floater with a semi-circle arc, thought it would never come down, lol. Bet the punter doesn't practice throwing much. And then they didn't capitalize on that 1st down either. We got away with the blatant end zone holding that the ref had to come over to Allen on the bench to apologize for. But then they scored on that drive anyway. Then Doh, Denver's field goal attempt nails the post squarely and drops like a rock. But it was the first whole game I've watched all year so there's that. Best of luck in the rest of the playoffs. The Bills have some real talent.
    Cheers

Back to our regular scheduled program after the WE of madness!
Phew, I’m all tuckered out from so much fu bol and accessories lol

RE: Firsty/ FB: I’d say it was hardly over at half 1stshow…and the Donkeys should be proud of what they accomplished, and though it kills me to say it ; ) their only going to get better. Hell, maybe KC will finally have some real divisional competition! Maybe next year is now real and not just a pacifier!
We were pretty nervous until those last couple of TDs, but like Romo said, these games usually separate the more fully established etc from the up and coming upstarts. Which seemed the case all around for most part.
Yeah the Commandos won, but I’ve been watching them go under the radar all year, sorta the new underdog like the mighty lye ooons a couple years ago!
Don’t see them upsetting D but…”that’s why they play the game”

Thought GB might do it as well, as they’ve also been gettin er done most of the year, but didn’t seem to show up yesterday? Same with the Bolts, no offense but I don’t like Houston for multiple reasons and frankly in that weak ass division didn’t fully deserve to be there, imho, but they did look more consistent than I’ve seen them play in weeks and the Bolts had none of their mojo of late, so… biggest eye opener so far was probably the VIKS loss to the Lye Oon? Not so much that they lost, but how…
Which makes tonight’s game Berry interesting…will the Viks and Sam I am be able to get their mojo working on the Rams, and will the Rams be able to keep theirs rising as they’ve been doing end of season?
No offense, but I’m hoping VIKS kick butt tonight, next week and get huge rematch game with Lions! Though I wouldn’t be able to root for one over the other as I like them both so much lol
In the lesser of two weevils competition, I’ll hold my nose and hope Houston shows up as KC is anything but invincible, and I’m guessing I’m not the only one over the leagues blatant “support” to milk another dynasty etc
Only good thing about PM is we don’t have to hear about Brady so much lol…actually think Tom does a good job analyzing.
obviously I hope Bills win, and if they all show up for all sixty minutes etc, can, but chances are that ain’t gonna happen and Baltimore is looking scary good and isn’t showing that I’m gonna choke vibe that’s plagued em last few years!
In the end, hopefully it’ll be a great game, the better team will win and without any BS help from the league/officials!

Uncle T: Rams? figured you’d be a Birds fan?

It's all over but the crying for Denver. The only hope I have is to jinx you by saying Buffalo has this in the bag, lol. Our pass coverage is abysmal and no one seems to be able to rush the QB. We are clearly outclassed here. There's always next year, lol.

Yeah PF it’s a shame the DS etc is chopped up.
Really enjoyed this one, especially that DS was way cool then…ugh
Be great if this was a banana box baby…

Not sure what to hit today?
Maybe start on the last 11 from 94, then next week maybe that E90 tour?
I know I dug the previous fall 90 shows, and PFs been digging the E tour, so I might sneak that in for extra credit lol
But first “she left my fat ass there by side of the road”

The end years still had some good parts.

From Set II - sequence of Estimated > Eyes > D/S > Trucking > Black Peter > Around > Sugar Magnolia E: Baby Blue

IWT. Space > Trucking > Black Peter were 30 Days contest for 11/10. Ages since I'd listened to this show and thought I'd circle back. Set I a little rough in places. Set II was a blast, a sweet sweet summer evening > night, lot of weather in the area, remember the wind hinting at rain during Eyes and it was just perfect. Excellent drumzspace - love(d) the marimba. Heavens opened up either during Baby Blue or just as it it finished. Buckets of rain, cats and dogs pouring from the sky. Somehow, soaked to the bone, we all found each other afterwards once the storm passed. Oh yeah - forgot to mention that Set II opened with a touch of the Twilight Zone(!!) > Women are Smarter > Going Down The Road

Fresh Jam of the Week and this Dark Star is beautiful! Felt like I was dropped into an ancient, mythical land. A great way to start this Friday morning.

Edit - and on to the whole show. what we have is amazing. New Potato!!

Terrapin > Playing > Drums > Not Fade Away > Comes A Time > Playing.
E: Johnny B Goode

out of this world - beautiful. A favorite sequence from Spring '77 and just in general.

Earlier a DH friend stopped by unexpected. He hasn't really been purchasing archival releases over the last few years. Whipped up some dinner and we listened to 4/16/78 Huntington WV. It was awesome (both dinner and the music) and now he's gonna buy the Friend of the Devils box.

12/9&11/94

First meh, second show had a great set list but the playing was inconsistent.
Of course there is that sweet Days Between Dave ended up using…

Buffalo 9th of May 1977, the day after the Cornell show, & some say it's even better.
There are practically no tracks in common, so it's good to hear both of them.
I recorded Buffalo to my computer from Archive, but I find it strange that there's no released separate copy. The bundled limited edition of New Haven, Boston, Cornell & Buffalo is fine if you don't mind spending about $500.

didn’t get a good listen yesterday to 12/16/94 but heard enough to fire up the second set again! Cool Branford gig!

Now onto 12/18…
Another nice second set!
And 12/19 was nice too. LA was a nice little run!

Edit: Yeah BC, I know you dig some 94, so check out the first night of Denver, I know the Auds not great, but it’s not too bad and the show I felt was worth it…especially the PITB jam etc…
And definitely check out 12/16 with Brandford!

I’ve now hit every 94 from 6/8 onward. Didn’t mean too. Started just wanting to check out summer tour and my 30th anniversary shows, but enjoyed them so much I kept going. Really dug the fall tour!

Prolly freak freely, or hit 52 and some other 83 mañana, then onto E90!
Onward!

Dbl Edit: 10/19/73…sigh, don’t know what it is about THAT one lol
So majestic.

Didn't know about that December show with Branford. Will have to check it out. Tried one of the McNichols shows but had a hard time getting past the audience pulls - they all seemed very distant.

Right now listening to Phil Lesh and Friends - Highlights Vol. 1 - And Love Will See You Through.

Cue War: “take a little trip…”

So onto Europe 90
Dug the fall tour so much, and with PFs enthusiastic enjoyment, figure I need to just Do It! So here we go, 10/13/90 it is…

Edit: Utica! Yeah Uncle it was a very small venue…front row Jerry for the rocking 3/13/81 show. Wish I remember more, but being young and dumb (some things never change, ahem) I bought a big bottle of 7/7 thinking all the heads could “stay warm” outside for the long GA wait to get in.
Well, lesson learned: cold tripping DH don’t normally drink much, at least before a show…well being in top Olympic form and 7/7 being the go go juice of choice for the band and road crew I was on, I just eventually quaffed her down mostly myself, which would have been fine if we didn’t later smoke sooooo many joints waiting on the floor….
All I’m gonna say bout that is seek Fat Freddie’s wisdom on that lol
But hey, I never left the front rail and ended up having a good show, and learned a valuable lesson that all 18 year olds should know lol
One and only show I ever got that kind of too wasted…
Good show if you’ve never checked it!

Dbl Edit: once again PF has me laughing: imagining him in middle of the teachers lounge correcting student gibberish, edibles, with cans on, cranking heavy metal or some atonal Dark Star while his unsuspecting cohort blather on about nothing LOL!
A true warrior!
Onward Brother!

the 13 was definitely off from the years previous shows, but I didn’t find it as bad as some have stated. I think DM in his GD bio said it was the worse show he saw? I’m betting set and setting had some influence. I know shows that at the time I thought in the experiential context were no bueno, years later, removed from the set and setting, and ensconced in the luxuries of home, I have not found any shows as bad, or sometimes as good as thought BITD…
Maybe that’s just me?

You can hear the 17 sounds more status quo of this fine year than the 13 fo sho…

The only time I made Red Rocks. My memories of the third show are the best. Wish the recordings were better. Wish my memory was better. I think me and my girlfriend at the time were having some difficulties this week which sort of got in the way of the shows. Too bad, but we had been away for a month by this point and sleep came at a premium. Still a good time and there was a lot of magic seeing the GD at the Rocks.

I also enjoyed the shows at Red Rocks 87. Does anyone else recall seeing b&w video monitors on the mixing board all 3 nights? (In addition to the unofficial version already available online). I suspect there is a lot more 87 video too, judging from what was officially released during that era.

Related note, I like meet up at the movies, and would even enjoy seeing compiled short bits of older video with intros and history from GD folks. Ive been visiting "Wolfgang's Dead" Youtoop channel lately. There is so much more than I ever knew. So, If they release it, I will buy it..

Both good, thought first show was better. Loved the Bruce Jam in the first, and sweet spacey Dark Star, though perhaps not JGs best version. In fact I’m digging these shows a lot, but Jer occasionally seems? Every now and then he kinda drifts? Hard to describe, just something..is..? Maybe just me?
Fun if not great Valley Road, nice SOTM, and that Stella might just be the best thing I’ve heard on the tour so far, amazing Stella on the 22!

To think of the folks being plastered back into those lower stone seats as he thundered along on the Eleven & Caution!
Bless you Phil (and the boys) for all the fun you gave us for all those years. I was lucky enough to be able to experience that exact Greek sensation just once - an indelibly (psychedelically) imprinted version of the Other One at the final GD Greek Theatre show - August 1989.

Wow, the three Wembley shows were all over the place!
The first on the 30th was tour status quo goodness! Though I still think Paris was top dog, and Mr David picked well with 10/27.
The 31 starts out awesome, but somewhere in the first set Jers voice suddenly goes rogue, which is a shame because the show is well played otherwise with many highlights, including a fun encore.

11/1/90 I’d heard/had at least the second but it’s been awhile.
The Playin Sammy/sequence is awesome! Victum was good, Touch ok, but consistency wise, much of this show was all over the place, including a couple near train wrecks i.e., U.S, Blew…
Interesting tour. Might as well keep Truckin’ on…12/3/90

Edit: S-W-B: can you imagine if he had the same PA, Modulus Bass, PIE Amps, Meyers 18’s and 15’s, and rack in 68 as he had when you were there!

Poor Jerry's voice

but again

I don't listen to GD for the vocals

took a chance and played Scarlet Fire from 3/10/81 for my son last night and emphasized the peak toward the end of Fire

he appreciates the musicianship and respects the GD
I consider that a win

Set II, begins "in the pouring rain", only Autzen night show(?) or was it an afternoon show on a Friday which is why I couldn't make it down from Seattle? Anyhoo, sure wish I'd been there - saw the 2 shows in Seattle before and then the 2 Autzen shows after this (last time they played there).

Rain > Eyes > Samba > Saint > D/S > Wheel > Attics > Throwing > Not Fade Away

no circulating sbd - can anybody fix that : ) - source is the Paul B audience transfer - sweet pull

That sounds like a pretty good description of me when The Dead came to Wembley in 1990 ! I was lucky to catch all three shows, and of those the one I enjoyed the most was the first - 10/30/90. I went on my own and didn't ingest anything stronger than a couple of pints - maybe that helped.
It was an amazing scene to me outside the stadium, with all the vendors selling their wares. Inside was great too, milling around. I was right near the front in the stalls - after all these years of listening to The Dead and reading about them- there they were, in person , within shouting distance. Songs which stood out were Row Jimmy Row ( not a song I like at home), Built to Last - which had a lot more substance than the recorded version, and Black Peter - quite something seeing Jerry sing this close up.
It was a buzz when they started up Lovelight, too. I had probably never heard a version of this post Pigpen, so the mere fact of them playing something off Live Dead was reward in itself. Weird phone calls seemed to come out of the amps during this song. They are transcribed in the Taping Compendium, which was quite re-assuring to read. Proof I hadn't imagined it!

The following night I was joined by Lady Macbeth, as my dad called my girlfriend, and trouble followed. We arrived as they were playing H-S-F, and they seemed to have more energy than the previous night. But we left after the first set. The third night I was back on my tod, and decided to take some mushrooms. And got lost on the way there due to one of the tube stations being closed. I still arrived on time, but I started tripping on the London underground which was a bit...challenging. I was up in the balcony this night, to the right of the stage. The sound was really bad - what I heard was anyway. The piano sounded too loud and the guitars too quiet. The highlight of this night was Space- Drums.

I agree that, of the shows I have heard from this tour, the one released in 30 Trips - Paris 10/27/90 - is the best. Playing now as I type.

Half way through the first and really nice!
Hot Jack opener!

12/3 was good, but I don’t recall any real standouts one way or another…

6/17/94: BC, BUMMER! Dooode I thought Seattle was decent, and the 2 Autzens you saw were good, but 6/17…that’s gotta be in top ten for the year!
Sorry, That’s gotta still hurt ; )

Nice/interesting tales DR. My cousin would say “little bit of something better than all of nothing”.
So you caught one of the tours best in good shape, then that awesome H/S/F and a good set, but, Not Loose Lucy was having none of it (bummer), so you missed a good second set with less than optimum JG voice, but you got to experience 11/1 and most especially DS on veggies…it’s like one of those CC ads:
Tix 100
Subway 20
Supplies 50
Annoying GF X
Playin>Jam>DS> Killer D/S>DS>Playin…Priceless!

I spent 17 years chasing that kinda goodness lol
I’d say you did pretty well.
Onward! (Wonder how many times I’ll have to shovel today? Lol)
