New York's Got The Ways And Means
Not having any idea of what to expect, I donated to the Circle of Gold and attended the after-show party at Union Square. Bill Kreutzmann bailed about a minute after I got there. Bob and Jerry were way in the back with a huge crowd swarming around them. They left a few minutes after Bill left. The show at MSG was the most eclectic Grateful Dead show I've ever attended! Who would ever thought I would see Phil Lesh and Hall and Oates play together live! "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," which included Suzanne Vega, sounded great! Jerry's voice was shot, but The Pied Piper was noticeably shredding his guitar! Later at the after-show party, when it seemed all of the celebrities left, Mickey Hart stayed with the crowd for awhile. There was a group of Brazilian dancers and drummers who kept the party going. I took a Polaroid of Babatunde Oluntuji! Earlier, I had sat at a table with Bruce Hornsby and Suzanne Vega for a minute or two! And, indeed, I got blasted! It was daylight when I left. But the entire evening was swirling in my head as I drove home.
