    Great memory
We are all a lot older now than when this happened but I still remember (or at least I could swear I do) hearing an unbelievably great version of Jackstraw... It was one month before the show when tickets went on sale... I was attending a small college about 75 miles away and blew-off afternoon classes to drive to the venue to get tickets... I'm pretty sure this was before Ticketron and I know it was before I had a credit card. Those were the days! Anyway, I had never been there before and drove past the arena... At the time, there was a service access gate between the arena and the stadium next door. The gate was open so I pulled in and found a place to park. I looked over toward the arena and saw a line of people on the other side of a fence and six or seven people in line at the box office. I walked over and asked the guy at the back of the line "Is this the line for Grateful Dead tickets?" He looked at me like I had three heads and said "Didn't you just wait in line all night to get here?" I said no, I just got here. He was really pissed... I got up to the box office and bought four ticket in the 8th row and was back on campus for dinner... One month later, it was a great show. I only saw them a few times but it's true. There is nothing like a Grateful Dead show!

    My First Too!
March Wells IIII was part of that group who stayed outside for 4/5 nights before tickets were sold. We took our lumps but it was so worth it. As Daddy Dead said, that was an amazing first set. Our group had ten tickets across the first four rows in center so we had quite the party all night long. Fave memory?...I was getting so into the music I wanted more. How could I get "more"? I closed my eyes and put my hands above my head to try and absorb more of the sound. Some time later I brushed up against someone next to me and when I opened my eyes....everyone around me had their hands up in the air! It was the beginning of a great adventure....

D.Dead I wasn't there and there is a lot to be said -- or more appropriately not said -- about commenting on a set list without hearing the show, but while the second set seems strictly average, the first round is unbelievable, really. I mean, every Jerry number is unusual in rarity or placement. I dare anyone to find any other set with these diddies included: Cold Rain and Snow Peggy-O High Time Ramble on Rose Dire Wolf Throw in El Paso and Passenger, and you have a first set for the ages.
