First and only show
I brought a buddy of mine to this show and it was his first and only. When the boys kicked into Casey Jones he could not understand why the crowd went wild.
Incredible performance
Slept outside the stadium the night before the show with friends. The day of the show was very hot and the sun was really strong. The Brothers were amazing and by the time the Dead came on, everyone was ready for take off. Donna Jean wore a bright green dress and floated above it all. People were enjoying everything, baking in the heat. Wonderful.
Never forget
I went solo with a pocket full of tickets and a smile on my face, seems the family was to busy to go to another show, who would have guessed it would have been my last :(
...Choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil...

Last Time I saw Jerry
I promised my older son, who was ten at the time, that I would take him to see the Dead... I got the tickets and we were all set to go... My brother came down from Long Island, and I took him instead of my son... I told him, he would get to go to the next one... It was never to be... Fortunately, my son forgave me... I still regret that I was not able to share the experience with him... This spring... I am going to see the Dead with my younger son at Charlottesville, Va... At least I get to keep my promise to him...
..couldn't make it into this one either....

What a Drive,,,There and Back
Filled 1971 Red Toyota Station Wagon with friends and supplies necessary for trip. Being Southern, could not miss another DEAD/ALLMANS EVENT. Certainly not disappointed.

When I met Jerry
It was in the summer some time in the 70's that I went with my partner to Washington DC to see the Dead and the Allman Brothers at RFK stadium. We checked in to a motel on the day of the show, and while standing in the lobby, we saw the crew from both bands coming in with their cases painted in the logos of the groups. I didn't see any of the band members at that time. The show was amazing. The Allman Brothers came out first and Greg said "We're going to sing every song we know." They went at it for hours, and they were terrific. Then the Dead did their set and hours later, both bands jammed together. The whole show lasted around seven hours!
We were tired but so happy when we went back to our motel. In the morning, we were still buzzing as we went to breakfast. There were some of the crew at a nearby table when Jerry walked in. He went over to talk to some of the guys at the table, but didn't sit down with them. I could see him as he left the restaurant area and entered the lobby. I was electrified, and for a minute, I just sat there stunned. Then, at my partner's urging, I got up and followed him into the lobby. I introduced myself and told him what a great time we had at the show. He shrugged and said "thank you." Then I had the stupid impulse to ask him for an autograph. Jerry made a face, but he didn't say no. I felt like a star-struck fool, but I rushed to the desk and took a message slip and a pen and stuck it in Jerry's hands. He took it from me and printed "JERRY" in capital letters. I wish I could say that I still had it, but over many years, moves and life changes, I have lost that piece of paper, but the experience and the thrill have never left me even after forty years.
