by chance the music trips your Specie's trigger, then by all means, jump on the atomic-galactic musical wagon and help make the Dead family a little bit happier by trying to be a genuine, kind Sons of Jerry Garcia!!!

Thanks for the well read update on the Dead. Wanna hear some of my rough and raw and ragged recordings: go to sonicbids and look for Mark Harper and the Milky Way Galaxy Band.

Well, Furthur tour over till Christmas run, Meteorite
Asking to be filled in since Jerry died is quite a tall order. In fact, when it's ALL said and done it might be worthy of a book with a complete a listing as possible of the dates and places of shows and lists as an index in the back. I by no means have an exhaustive knowledge, but it seems to me that the band took about less than a year off from touring before coming back as the "Furthur Festival" in '96. That continued a couple of years as well as Bob's band Rat Dog. At some point around 2000 Phil & Friends was born with Phil as ringleader with an ever-changing cast of characters. In between all of this,in 98-02 the band with additional members played as "The Other Ones", most notably in 2001 & 2002 when they cut an album called The Other Ones. As the name Grateful Dead was permanently retired in 1995, in 2003 a reunion tour was made with the band called just - "The Dead". For the next six years Ratdog with Bob and Phil & Friends with Phil toured more or less regularly. Of note was "The Philathon" at the Nokia Theatre in NYC that was always around 10-14 shows in one run. In 2009 "The Dead" toured with Warren Haynes on lead to universal disdain among the deadheads. On a sidenote, Billy and Mickey played with the Furthurs during that time and then did only very occasional tours as different projects thereafter. It was not clear after the 09 Dead Tour that anything meaningful was going to come from the remaining members of the band. It looked like the end. But due to Phil being able to pull John Kadlicek from his originating role as lead guitarist for the Dead Cover band Dark Star Orchestra, a new version of Furthur was born around 10/1/09. This band has Bob & Phil in their usual roles along with Chimenti on piano and jay Russo and Joe Lane and a couple of back-up singers, one of whom is named Sunshine Garcia. This iteration has just finished it's two year anniversary tour to wide popular acclaim among the Deadheads while the drummers are doing something with an ethnic call Papa Malli calle Seven Walkers. Quite a mouthful for a band that already had a 30 year career, eh?

It's been a nearly a year since Furthur was in my neighborhood (Northrop Auditorium in Minneapolis), so four buddies and I will hit the road for the shows in Chicago and Madison. GDTS ponied up great seats in both locations and I agree with Critter that Chicago should be lively (and not just 'cause the venue is directly underneath an O'Hare runway!). I'd love to catch more midwest shows, but I'll have to settle for hearing Mickey's band at a small (~600) venue next month, including a meet-and-greet beforehand for a modest $30 premium per ticket.
