finding Furthur
Listening to the Asbury Park show the first time I ended up comparing John to Jerry which is how I came up with my negative review. I listened to the show again Sunday and said to myself I'll have an open mind and just accept it for what it is. By doing this I found myself enjoying it and thought John sounded pretty damn good! When Bobby sang " If this ain't the real thing, it's close enough to pretend" I had to smile. I guess if it's good enough for Phil and Bobby it should be good enough for me too. I hope I get the ticket for the Haiti benefit that I ordered. It would mean a lot to me to be able to be there to help the people of Haiti and to be there to help sing "happy birthday" to Phil.
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart
You just got to poke around
Sugaree
I heard a version of Sugaree last night on GD Radio. It was not the Jerry version, older I think. A different song. Older I believe. Sounded like it was sung by a child or young woman. I really liked it. Does anyone know who it is by. I did not catch the song info as I was in and out of sleep.

this is the Sirius radio topic, not the YouTube Video Posting topic. I am removing the posts containing YouTube videos with no discernible connection to the topic.
sorry marye
there were some people out there who knew what I was talking about, was just trying to say goodbye in a friendly way, please close my account for me, thank you!
well, no need to leave...
I'll nuke your account if you want, but no need.
just a thought
maybe you guys could get John K. into the studio sometime and let him introduce himself and play a few tunes for us. It might help me appreciate Furthur more as i've had a bit of a hard time adjusting and was a bit pissed at the loss of Ratdog but I like to think I'm adaptable.
Grateful Dead History
I miss the late morning slot for GD history: 6 am (central) is too early, usually, and come around 6 pm I have something else going on like dinner, mowing the lawn, or still hitting happy hour. David, if you can return your historical feature to 10 am, this ole 'head will be gracious.
you were supposed to laugh!
Good to see you're feeling better this morning man, I was getting worried about ya.
heads up, Sirius folks
David Gans posted this on Facebook:
Today's Tales from the Golden Road will be live from Mickey Hart's studio where Rhythm Devils are rehearsing! 4-6pm ET on Siruns 32 XM 57
great Jerry week
thanks for playing a Jerry and John acoustic show, heard it sat.nite. The Birdsong was awesome! and the SF '77 Sisters and Brothers you played afterwards was truly beautiful. That's probably the first time I've heard one of those shows since I saw them at the Wiltern Theatre in Hollywood about 25 years ago. I was at the Greek 1990 show you played, that was the last show I ever saw at the Greek, and of course the 1980 Keen college shows. What a great week, how bout a Jerry year?
God bless my Sirius friends
After all, they we're part of it too. Man, you guys have blown my mind a million times but I need a rest so I won't be there at quarter to nine for a while. May God bless and keep you always.
Today In Grateful Dead History
I loved last Fridays today in grateful dead history from the Hult Center in Eugene, OR. circa 1983. If David is looking for something to blow peoples minds on September 10 there is another good show from that year, I was thinking maybe from coming out of drums through the enocre. Good work you do there.
mid day show on XM
Hey David: what happened to the first half of the 1st set to 7/7/81, @ KC Municipal? The airing of 7/7/81 didn't kick in until El Paso.... Ushers and bouncers were not tolerating smokers nor tapers at this show.
I noticed an upload on archive.org today that had passed thru Charlie Miller's hands.
7/7/82
No idea. I'll ask Rob Bleetstein, who produced the concert for broadcast.

Enjoying the Experience
I really enjoy the Dead radio channel, when I get a chance to listen. I only have Sirius radio at home through my TV, but I can exercise with them every day. It gets two ears up all the way down the line. Drew Engman

New Year's show
Well, the Sirius broadcast was a bust. They said there were problems with the ISDN lines between San Fran and New York, that they had AT&T try three different lines and still kept dropping out. (Being a computer tech myself, and knowing some things about the former Ma Bell, I can believe it.) I heard a total of about 20 minutes of the show, in bits and pieces.
They said they'd rebroadcast it (I guess from a recording made at the show.) But they didn't say when. I took the 3-day trial just to hear this show, now I feel I wasted that trial. (My wife was at the show, so I really wanted to be listening in order to better connect with her!)
Why is anyone complaining
Some one tries to do something nice. And all you do is find FAULT.
Maybe you should put it on.
Thanks to all efforts.
Thanks to all who tried to get it there see ya in Denver.
Have a Less Bitter New Year
Do For Other's You Will Feel Better.
Guaranteed!!!!
I'm not complaining
just disappointed. Yeah, they said the problems were with AT&T's ISDN lines, they tried three different ones. But for something this important to so many people, I hope they've learned and next year will have a second-source provider in place as a backup. Both Verizon and Sprint have good networks, perhaps one of those as their backup? And maybe invest in the T-1 line?
your question...
is one I've often asked myself WRT to live broadcasts, especially when the yakker clearly knows less about the subject than the average listener.
On the other hand I can't address the particulars here because I don't know what guy in NY was doing the commentary. If, say, it was Gary Lambert, he'd be worth one's attention!
XM has changed the internet radio gizmo
XM Sirius has put up a new internet radio: mine isn't working properly and the lunchtime Dead concert ain't hapnin!!
Please put the broadcast schecule
of the live concerts back on the GD channel web page. ALSO please don't start these earlier than the announced time, as some of us use a Tivo to record these shows. (For personal use only of course.)
Last Sunday night (5/29/11)
Last Sunday night (5/29/11) the GD channel played a concert from 1991. Can anyone tell me what concert that was?
this weeks concert selections on XM Sirius
Denver 12/13/90; SF 7/12/76; Utica 3/21/73; E Rutherford 6/5/93; Detroit 10/23/71; St Paul 5/11/77; Paris 9/20/74; and Mtn View 10/4/87. I think last week featured 12/31/91, but I'm not sure
Cassidy
Hmm OK, thanks. Then maybe I'm mistaken. The reason I ask is because I was listening to a nearby station (I think it was "Deep Tracks") sometime Sunday afternoon, and they played a version of Cassidy that I really liked. Before they played it, I believe the DJ said it came from a GD concert from 1991, and that that concert would be played later that night on the GD channel.
Anyway, if anyone knows what show that was or any good Cassidys from 1991, please let me know!
1991 Cassidy's
Grateful Dead sang Cassidy 13 times in 1991. On 10/27/91 in Oakland, Carlos Santana stepped-in for a tune or two.
6/17/91, in Giants Stadium, is viewable on dvd. The 2nd set has a great Dark Star sequence.
If you'd like the dates of more choice '91 shows, let me know.

Here are the 13 shows from 1991 featuring Cassidy. I've pulled this data from www.deadlists.com which will link you to the audio section of the Live Music Archive within www.archive.org

Omaha 7/5/78 is on XM Sirius this week
Jerry's scorching the airwaves with this fine show from 1978. It is an audience recording: can't tell if it's Tim's or Bob's, or..? Any history on whether a board exists?
Bertha>Good Luvin'
I was eatting my breakfast this past Tuesday morning (November 22, 2011) around 6:00ish when my wife called me from her cell phone. She was heading to work and listening to The Grateful Dead Channel. She was all excited and had to tell me about this killer version of "Good Lovin' " she just finished listening to. The only information she could give me was that Bobby was singing it (so it is post PigPen) and that Bobby was on fire. He was singing about getting good luvin in Russia and China, Japan, etc..... The display on the radio only said it was "Bertha>Good Luvin". I tried to find out what show this version came from, but have been coming up empty-handed. I tried searching it on line, I checked my "Dead Base" book, I even went on line to the Grateful Dead Channel hoping to find a detailed list of past schedules for the shows showing songs that were played from what years, venues, etc..... All roads led to nowhere in this quest. Would anybody out there have any information as to what show (venue and year ((date)) ) these songs came from? Maybe someone could guide me in the right direction to locate this info. Even just a year this show was from would at least narrow it down for me. Anyone? Any help? This would be great. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!!!!!
Songs: "Bertha> Good Luvin' "
Broadcast Date: Tuesday, November 22, 2011
Time: 6:00 ish (AM- EST)
Bobby singing about good loving in Russia, Japan, China etc....
Later brothers and sisters, Ken
good question
First Bertha > Good Lovin' combo was 5/9/77, in Buffalo. Work up from there I reckon
checking the logs
Let me see if I can get someone in the home office to check the logs for us.
Fade Outs ~n~ Song Choices
Coupla questions...
Does anyone consciously select the songs playing at random? Or is it just coincidence/synchronicity?
and...
Why do they fade out of some songs prior to completion? I've witnessed a coupla times where they faded out of a particular song at a crucial moment...such as Jerry's refrain "be with you" during SOTM....I understand only wanting to play a portion of a bunch of adjoining songs and fading out at one song's end, but doing it in places like the "So many roads to ease my soul" refrain is sacrilegious (to me).
This also makes me wonder if someone actually does this or if it's a computer thing...?
Today in Grateful Dead History
It would be very helpful if this stuff was listed online - ahead of time -along with the seven concerts that get shuffled each week. Sometimes
David is extremely generous in what plays under this banner.
Thanks.
Scheduled concert replays
I agree, the GD History segments are always unknown and sometimes not from the same day and month. Today, for instance, David L played the 1st set from 4/11/82.
Regarding the Sirius Xm concert replays, I'm hoping 6/18/74 comes up again.

7/3/84 Starlight
David L came up with a clean soundboard of the Starlight show from 7/3/84: the LMA only has audience recordings, so this is quite a treat on XM Sirius. Deal just completed the 1st set and the Saints are marching on San Francisco!! Darren Sproles scores to take the lead!!
Bobby Acoustic
Hey everyone - I don't think this is a difficult ask but I just can't figure it out. I have been hearing a Bob Weir what appears to be acoustic set in individual songs lately. The other day I heard Cassidy and Shades of Gray.
Anyone know what I am talking about and what it is from?
2/22/74 Winterland
3 sets, 30 songs, one of the longest GD shows ever. The last run before they debuted the Wall Of Sound in Daily City at the end of March. Wish I could have been there. I would have enjoyed myself immensely.
Sirius Channel
It's Monday night and the web page for this channel is not yet showing the 7concerts that will be rotated out this week. It's nice to know what's coming ...
GD Concert schedule 3/5/12 to 3/11/12
Next weeks schedule is out : 8/14/81, 7/26/72, 5/25/74, 10/12/77, 10/21/71, 4/15/89, and a 3/22/87. Tonight's 9/7/73 is very good.
