    Remember the days
When we used to survive without all the AC? It seems like a different kind of hot these days. Of course, all older people say that. You have to wonder, though, what it would be like if sun spot activity, solar flares and such, suddenly wiped out the power grid for the month of August? Going to the mall wouldn't be an option. Checking your elderly neighbors would become a responsibility. Switching over to a more reliable food supply sans fridge. It all adds up to a degree of misery we'd all rather not experience. Experts say it is more likely than not.

    That triple-digit heat wave
Pulling into NC today. With a heaping dose of humidity in tow, I hear. Three words to explain why it's easier to cope with this kind of heat where I live now compared to anywhere else I've ever lived: central air conditioning. Hotter than a match head, indeed, Ted! Stay cool, folks. Positive vibes to the people dealing with wild fires and anyone trying to survive this oven with just a fan, or less, for relief.

Hot town, summer in the cityBack of my neck getting dirty and gritty Been down, isn't it a pity Doesn't seem to be a shadow in the city All around, people looking half dead Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head... (Mark Sebastian 1966) Hard to believe Lovin' Spoonful sang this song 46 years ago! Meanwhile it's literally hotter than hell in most of the US this week. In Kansas, we'll be over 100 with no precipitation in sight. Keep those prayers and good thoughts coming for our friends in the mountains. Looking forward to our US Supreme Court decision in a few minutes....

First, it's a horror in Ohio with 3 dead at Chardon High School, then deadly twisters rip through Kansas, Missouri, Illinois and possibly in Kentucky or Tennessee today. In Kansas, we had 70 degree temps yesterday, now it's snowin w large flakes, confusing birds, humans and spring flowers alike. !!

Rain is but a tease in south KC this morning: 72 degree temp is very nice, but we can't seem to squeeze any rain outta them grey clouds. Meanwhile, up north of KC, rain is supposed to fall, Interstate 29 is still closed for the Missouri river flooding (thank you South Dakota!) the lowlands from Omaha south into Kansas and Missouri. Newsman this morning says they are diverting Joplin tornado FEMA funds to help pay for Irene's storm damage back east....

Death toll rises to 5 in Vermont
20 towns remain cut off from the outside world in Vermont. The devastation has been staggering. There are no people in the state, no matter how old, who can remember such a flood. Where there are towns connected to roads, bridges and pavement have been washed away. People are staggering around with a glazed look in their eyes. Many have lost everything and extremely few have flood insurance. This has been an extreme tragedy. No one had any real idea that this was possible...

Here in lovely Oakland, we're in the midst of what we're told is the first of several big storms. This one is certainly living up to expectations and causing all manner of trouble in various Bay Area locales, making me real glad I work at home. Took the dogs for a walk because they insisted, and they certainly are nice and clean now!

It's been absurdly cold for the past couple of days here in Joisey. This morning I saw on the TV that in a couple of days, it's going to be absurdly warm. Warm enough for golf. Goody for me, but what can I say, I'm just a hopeless golf junkie. I also saw reported that they were expecting ten feet of snow out in the Sierras. Yow! I always wondered what hurricanes would be like if they were creatures of the cold, rather than creatures of the warm. I guess some of you will get to find out, and maybe the uniqueness of that opportunity can be a silver lining for you. Good luck. Isn't anyone else still playing False Alarm? At 2 for 2, I was just starting to have fun. Conversation is always more interesting than recitation, so speak your mind and not someone else's.

I just heard the AC switch on in the office. Over the weekend the low was in the teens and today it's supposed to reach a high of 76! Hells Bells, will it ever snow here?

they were the first band i saw live.jaco was still alive and playing like a wiz.that was 1976 when black market came out.the venue was stuttgart, west germany.heavily improvised music but as jerry once said, everybody seemed to be playing to himself.only once in a while there were short moments of "playing in the band!but that were only moments.....nothing like the euphoria in a dead concert when you would suddenly see the universe open up on you.hmm, these guy were perfect in their way for sure....but was it fun for the listeners?yes, the weather..i am in the czech republic an it is very icy....

we'll start a topic for Jaco et al and use this for an intro! Weather in Oakland nice today. Finally dry enough to chainsaw the fallen branches from the storm last week. I may be crazy, but I ain't goin' out in no rain with no electric chainsaw.

After 8 weeks of snow and ice and sub-freezing temps in Colorado, I got back to Sandy Eggo on Sunday and it's been great to be warm again! I had almost forgotten how much I like the sunshine!

Snow, snow and more snow. Kids are hoping for a snow day but 3-4 inches might not do it. I get to go to work and I really hate this weather--feel it in my bones as I get older. Nine more years of auto assembly and I am headed to Arizona or New Mexico--away from Michigan. However, tomorrow is our primary and I will get out to vote.

Wind chill close to zero, actual temp around 20 degrees. Not much snow though only a couple inches, more on the way.

Right now we are lucky if the temp gets into the 20's, low will be around 0. Too cold for the kids to go outside. Boys are playing XBox and my daughter is curled up on the couch in her jams and comforter reading a book. Warms my heart because she reminds me of her mother.

here, Steve-o, the temps are in the single digits this evening on the great plains and the wind is whistling down from the north and in from the east and over from the west. Maybe if we got a little in from the south, it might warm a bit. We are "out in the cold rain and snow". :-)

I don't see rain coming anytime soon. 10 degrees this morn, wind chill is -8. A couple more inches of snow fell overnight, but not as much as we thought. Maybe we are going to get a little lucky with this one. Although the lake effect snow warning is in effect until tomorrow morn. We are "out in the cold snow".
