Grateful Dead

First set was very tight. Sounded like the Grateful Dead again after several years of "searching for the sound" post-brent. second set started with the promising Here Comes Sunshine, and lost heart with a flubbed victim, and tepid Unbroken Chain>eyes. I recall space being very impressive, and post-drumz was full of heart. They really gave it their all on NFA. Brokedown was a bittersweet farewell. I'd always feared what was to come, although Jerry began to seem immortal and unstoppable. but such is life, and we have to face the reality in order to truly live.

This was the last show I ever attended. I remember it like it was yesterday. Went with my girlfriend.... who is now my wife!

My take on this, my final show, was that it was off the charts. I figured it would be an Unbroken Chain to begin the second set but they held us off for a couple of songs. I thought Victim was completely dreamlike and really set the stage for Unbroken Chain, which was Totally worth the wait! We were treated to another awesome Dayz Between also. Finally, Jerry broke out Brokedown Palace to finish the show and the west coast swing. In true Dead fashion, they picked the most poignant song to finish it for us all. Nothin' left to do but :) :) :)

This was my final show, too. Every once in a while, I am nagged by those questions -- was it worth the money, was it worth the time? As I went back through my ticket stubs, verifying attendance at shows, my answer was clear ... if only I'd seen a few more while I could have!

Summer flies and August dies and the world grows dark and mean.. Thank you all so much! We had our cake and ate it too! There was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert! Bravo Bravo!!!!

Bertha, Doodle! A capela H.C. Sunshine intro of 2nd set was pretty. The "Chain" was Epic (seriously!). Best Days Between EVER> This version of Brokedown rings in my head continually to this day (last show)....I told my So.cal friends i was leaving them to go on tour or it would me my last show. I pussed out. Ce La Vi!! Kick Ass last show!!!! Thank ya Boys.

This was my last show as well. My girl couldn't make it to the show cuz she had a paper due in college so I went to the show with a couple of my good friends. I kept telling her it would be okay, we'll get Fall tour tickets and follow them around. We miss you Jerry!!!.... more than words can tell...I'm gonna listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul. "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery...none but ourselves can free our minds"

Of course we didn't know it at the time that this was to be the final West Coast appearance... Thank you for so much fun over the years, so many good times, and thank you for spreading your special brand of joy... Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come since I first left home...

Going to leave this broke down palace, on my hands and my knees I will roll roll roll> I'm pretty sure this one was my last show. I remember being very preggers, and after the show, I was walking to the bus stop to go home, and an old friend i hadn't seen in a long time just happened to be driving by, he gave us a lift home and i never saw him, or the DEAD again. still makes me sad to this very day.

This was the last time I saw the DEAD before Jerry's passing...we had back stage passes and I remember the vibe was somewhat tense...but the music was sublime. Can't wait till the new tour 2009!

I wasn't going to attend any of this run at shoreline but maggie nightshade and Brian Y showed up at my house in berkeley, we made a bunch of tea and had the best time in 15 years of seeing Jer and the boys....Just a blast..Also The last time I saw The GRATEFUL DEAD... Glad they showed up and I saw his last California performance...awwww jer.

I think I'll take the "TRAIN" next time. Thank you all for the wonderful ride!

Grateful Dead ticketing gave us 3rd row seats for this show - the best we ever had at Shoreline. It turned out to be our last Dead show with Jerry. But the really weird thing, in retrospect, was that during these shows I got a T-shirt out in the parking lot. On the front was a small logo representing Shoreline 1995. On the back was the logo from Swell Dance Concert #1 (March 1973) - which happened to be my first Dead show! I still marvel that this shirt depicted both my first and last Dead show. (this was also the last shirt they had!)

I guess I can only thank the powers that , well whatever they be. But if I had to choose a swan song, it would be Brokedown...I will always miss these halycon days and nights and I will always smile when I think of the great times this band, these fans, and the music...always the music... RIP to the Greatest Show on Earth!

My first tune started with "We can share the women we can share the wine..." (11/20/85) My last started with "Fare you well, My Honey" (6/4/95) not quite 10 years on the bus before the captain left... lost Brent right in the middle... ...still riding, though! Jack Straw in... Brokedown Palace out... couldn't have been more perfect. Miss you, Jerry!

This was my first and last show. I was only 18 but they were exceptionally brilliant musicians and brilliant people who captured a moment in a way that so few can ever do. They, and you all, were everything I expected and I wish I had more time there. God speed team.

After NFA finished, I left my sat and walked up to the grass area at the top. As Brokedown Palace played I stood at the very top of the grass and ambled along viewing the scene. Had I known that it would be the last time I would see Jerry with the boys there... I might have stayed in my seat and embraced the moment with my friends. Momma Momma many worlds I've come since I first left home...

ALthough I saw the Dead in its various post-Jerry renditions after this, this was my farewell show to the man in black. I heard the news of his death almost immediately when it was first broadcast, and took my drum down to Haight-Ashbury before going with the group that had gathered there to the Polo Field to add our tears and gifts to the immense altar in Jerry's honor. The memorial show in the park was so bittersweet. Great to be with that community at that time. The end of an era for me and many.

After seeing 20+ shows a year through most of the '80s, I was down to just a couple a year in the '90s. This was the only Shoreline show I saw on this run, and like many on here, it was the last time I saw Jerry. I was at work early in the morning the day after he died, and I got a call from a woman who knew I loved the Dead. She wasn't a fan at all, but she thought I should know. That's how I found out about Jerry. I went to the memorial at the Polo Field that week. What a tribute.
