Jerry's Back, and We've Got Him!
It’s been a long, long time since there’s been a Jerry Garcia music release, but the good news is that a new day is dawning, the pipeline to the Garcia vault is open again, and we hope to offer you quality JG tunes as often as we can! Dead.net, in conjunction with the recently formed Garcia Family LLC (mainly Jerry’s daughters), are pleased to announce their exclusive partnership, and to celebrate the occasion, we’re picking up right we left off—with a new addition to the popular “Pure Jerry” series. For those of you keeping score, this one is #8, and it marks the first official full release of acoustic music from Garcia and John Kahn.

The setting is the wonderful 2,000-seat Marin Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in San Rafael on February 28, 1986, the last of 12 acoustic shows John and Jerry played that winter. It’d been a solid tour, with sold-out concerts in a number of cool East Coast venues. But this was a hometown show—literally—so the air was both relaxed and festive. The twelve songs collected here on a single disc are the complete two-set show from that night, nearly 70 minutes of music; a nice blend of old folk tunes, a Dylan number and Hunter-Garcia classics. Particularly noteworthy in that last category are the epic “Bird Song” and rockin’ “Run for the Roses.” Soundboard copies of this show have not been in circulation before.

    exactly, you said it -
    - "none of our business." So why post it? I don't really care, just curious.

I think you know what the point of the posting of the financial breakdown relates to. Personally, I think we should all get over whatever animosity there is toward a certain individual, and just be happy that "Jerry's Back," so to speak. However the family decided to make peace is none of our business and I believe Jerry-- wherever he is-- is pleased that the shows are being made available. Received my copy yesterday. My sound system is above average and decodes HDCD. The sound quality of this CD is just fantastic. Rich and full sound making it seem like Jerry & John are in your room playing for you. I found the first half of the setlist sweet but as was usual for these shows a bit drawn and slow and not really showcasing what jerry can do with a guitar other than make it sing better than anyone ever has. The second half of the show turns around and adds in quality Jerry licks in a more up tempo pace. For me the real highlight to this CD is the last three songs. Bird Song is soooo good. Jerry cranks and you can close your eyes and remember what it was like when he created magic. That is followed by excellent versions of Ripple and Good Night Irene. I would give this a 4 out of 5 holding back a start just for the setlist and slightly lethargic start. Overall its great and highly recommend folks get this... I again make my plea to the powers that be to relelase the JGB 2/13/80 show from the palace theatre in albany...
