    "The Jam Man"
The two callers were wonderful here in their recollections of Mr. LAT-vala. Next week (I assume we're getting 573 next week) is a classic recording of Dick pinch-hitting for David one night on DTTW and features him at his enthusiastic best introducing a truly superb Dark Star from October of '72,.....as well as the Dark Star itself of course. Can't wait.

First, the love for Dick Latvala shines bright through these GD hours, David. As you - and the callers - convey, he was one in a million. Thank you for putting these on dead.netSecond, for those of us who missed the early tapes exchange in 1974...i was busy buying every platter of GD vinyl that showed up in Iowa City...the story is fascinating. I keep picturing while we were dropping the needle onto the record there was an entire gang recording the music on cassette - to listen, to trade, to share. It's quite incredible the layers of activity around the band. The unlimited devotion to getting the music in as many hands as possible can't be praised enough. Its how ideas grow and flourish. It allows a shift in thought and new ways to hear. Third, with such high marks for Dick's Picks Vol. 2 - looks like I'm headed to the store once again....59 minutes of perfect! Thank you, thank you -

DG: Once again, thanks for getting the music and the info out there. These archival hours are great for oldtimers like myself and for a new generation being exposed to the Dead for the first time.

Mr Gans , great show . Dick had much wisdom to leave here for us on earth . And i don t know if ever there will be a guy like him to ' think ' out the shows to go out for mass release . There probably is already a good , well picked team of folks who do that . 3FTV is a Latvala idea , right ? But , along with that his sensibility to find and recommend GDP a show like the Columbus 71 , we need to keep our team of Dead experts at GDP motivated and willing to take the style and work that Dick did here . Thanks & Peace to you all

I used to own 2FTV . I cant remember where it went or what happened to it , but that was a very good 1968 show . I wonder if D Healy was also behind that proyect . I did read a few months ago that someone - I thought it was Dick L - that was the main ' contributor ' to the 3F proyect . I think - Sorry GDP - i still own a lousy SBD of 2 21 71 around in some box in my house here in Chile . So i better get 3FTV ordered soon . I shall .. That Portchester Feb 71 run of shows has been in my psyche since a very good friend of mine taped me 2 18 in 1995 . Peace
