Oakland 6/8/74
My first ever Dead show and have been hooked ever since. Jerry no beard and the Wall of Sound ...was truely great!
Show #9, The Folly of Youth
I flew up to Oakland for this one, my ninth Dead show, on the now defunct Air California airline. I met a really swell girl, and things were going great, but at some point during the G.D. portion of the show, I passed out/fell asleep (too many beers). When I woke up, the Dead were still playing, but the girl was long gone!
I have an audience tape of the 2nd set from this show.
The Playing in the Band is un-friggin'-beleivable, my all-time favorite! It hits deep spaces that are usually reserved for only the best Dark Stars. Wharf Rat is relaxed and very soulful.
Oakland 74
My second Dead show. Alot of my friends went to this together. I specifically remember Scarlet Begonias, US Blues and Casey Jones!! One of the first of many Day on the Green concerts. I remember Phil and his glasses, I was thinking, "man that guy looks old wearing those glasses". I was 14 at the time. I was just starting to get familiar with the Dead. KJ
Shared the bill w/the Beach
Shared the bill w/the Beach Boys and there was a mild socialogical dilemma from those (BB fans) not bussed in!
My foggy daze....
Does any of you recall if this was the show wheretotally out of the blue Jerry danced a quick little jig?
Also I believe I saw Phil kicking back way up on a
speaker cabinet in the 'Wall'.
That was a gig ten times over!

Outrageous
First of 150+ shows for me; out-of-this world sound system; sunshine, thick smoke, loud, loud music; heavenly vibes; stoic, beardless, Jerry did give a kick of his leg as the shivering electricity jolted through the Coliseum; I was too high to not notice; Phil shaking the temple walls; oh my, what a day!
Those were the days...
Ah yes the wall of sound...amazing sound, so discrete and beautiful.
