    Great Show
DKNJ: The Playing follow-up was totally cool. Ya gotta love U.S Blues on the 4th of July! The rain was perfectly timed, Deal was rippin. Stagger Lee was inspired. "Truckin Up To Buffalo" is a great DVD. Direct feed, no video screen images.I read an interview with Lemieux saying the whole '89 summer run is this way. Get 'em all out! This was a solid tour.

When Bertha opened up I couldn't believe how hard everybody was rockin and singing along and just groovin. That moment was the beginning of a life-long love of the band. I was wearing a stupid "Grateful Fred" Flinstone t-shirt but I was 16 yrs old and thought it was really cool. Next came Greatest Story...Cold Rain...and all the way until the US Blues encore I was entranced.

I had the honor of driving all night from central NJ to the show. And the yahoos I was with wouldn't keep quiet in the hotel room so I could get some sleep. I still loved this show This is the best version of "Not Fade Away" I saw. The tempo was a little slower than normal which made one think of the funky 70's version. Jerry and Brent trading licks looking at each other and laughing was great. AND it wasn't married to that OTHER song.

Even though I was at the show, and enjoyed it immensely, it wasn't until I saw the DVD of it that I realized what a stunning show it was. I always thought 7/7 was the better night, and I still think that is a great show. My wife, who is not a Deadhead, thinks this is the best version of Watchtower she has ever heard.

Somethings I remembered before seeing the DVD, like Jerry and Brent during NFA. Some I did not, like Brent taking a verse of Women R and Jerry loving every minute of it. You always heard how Jerry did not like doing the stadium shows. Geez, he seemed to enjoy this one.

Always love when the band finished Playing in the Band after opening a previous show. Two days before opened in Ma. w/Paying and finished it here. Sometimes, not always in the mood for a "Playing" but when they did it like this.......fun. "There is nothing like a Greatful Dead concert." Wave That Flag!!!!!!!!

I was right up front for the 10,000 Manics and first set of the show. During the 10,000 Maniacs set Natalie Merchant stopped the show due to a girl right in front of me passing out / OD-ing. Natalie was very freaked out by this and left the stage for a moment while the girl was being helped / removed. It took Natalie a while to regain her composure to finish the first song after that.

I seem to remember Natalie Merchant saying "you're all just a pulsing mass of blue" to the audience at some point, but Goony Bird had the stadium breaking up into fragments and reforming all at once, so I was a bit too kaliedescopically engaged to fully attend the Maniac's set. The Dead rocked and, even though "IWTYH" is by far the corniest song they ever performed - and given schlock like "Liberty" and "Corinna" that's saying a lot - the second set smoked, capping off in a majestic "Morning Dew." Outta sight.

This was also my first show, no wonder I became a Dead Head!! I was on a musical Road trip just seeing PIL, Sugarcubes and New Order 2 nights before in Darien Lake. Nothing compared to this massive display of musical energy!!!! SO glad they released this as a DVD, might have to buy another as it is getting worn out!! Anyone remeber the little yellow birds..... ;-)

I will take you home (IWTYH) is a truly magical song that Brent wrote. They only play it when it fits. Maybe you think it's corny because you don't have kids??? My wife not only believes it's on her top 5 dead tunes, but she also had it played as the father daughter dance at our wedding. Put that in your pipe and smoke it....;-) Just having fun.

I got to call him up the next day and just went Dum, data dum dum dum.... he knew immediately. So awesome in the rain, dancing free. I kept going back to Buffalo because this show was so good. This was my 4th Dead show so I had to get in early and stake out a spot front row between Jerry and Bobby. I do remember Natalie Merchant being upset by the girl passing out...it was hot so I assumed she just passed out. Seeing the dead up front was great. When the band was tuning up this guy next to me started messing with Phil eventually playfully telling him to put up his dukes. I think Phil pretended to go after him for a second pretty loose atmosphere. That first set is all good stuff I particularly remember how Bobby's vocals during Looks like Rain bounce off the back off the stadium during this song. Jerry took advantage off this acoustical effect during his closing jam also.

Someone Launched a massive amount of glow sitcks or bracelets into the air right during "INSPIRATION" line in Terrapin. One of the classic moments I will ever remember. The guy on the vending stand was screaming "I WANT TO TALK TO JERRY!" and had blood all over his hands and face, I was close enough to observe this...

Me and all my friends trucked down to Foxboro from Rochester NH in "the guy my mother married'"s AMC EAGLE station wagon thing because I did'nt have wheels at the time. We all had a blast and I met a beautiful young lady named (or nicknamed)Melody Star Waters but thats a whole different story...(If any one knows her tell her to contact me,Id love to talk)anyhoo,of course we all wanted to go to Buffalo for the 7/4 show and would'nt you know mygood buddy traded some perforated paper for(6) G/A seats..... YEEEFUCKINHAAAA!!! one hitch though(of course)my mothers husband was'nt the nicest guy in the world (the only reason he lent us the car was for my mom)he did`nt like me or my friends and he made that very clear.sozanywayz,He said noway jose'-so we were like fine we'll bring your stupid lookin' car home(which was covered in dust and Dead stickers heehee) and find another way to NY.(not really though, we were BuffaloBound,We'll deal with dickhead later) As we were leaving the dusty congested nightmare they call a parking lot,the old wagonmobilething starting acting kinda funky.Me-n-my buddy carlos were in "the thing"(with everybodies stuff)and the other 4 were in another car, between the car overheating and the traffic cops fucking everything up we lost our friends!!(no cell phones in 89)worst part:we had all there stuff and they had all the TICKETS!!(ouch)so we limped the car to one of those B/K/reststop typedeals and shut the car down and went in for a cool drink,to figure out what to do next.of course when we came out the car was DEAD! longstoryshort-we ditched the car, filled our backpacks, made a sign that said"BUFFALO-PLEASE"w/a peace sign for the O,and off we went.We got a ride to a bus station somewhere in NY and spent 10 hours on a cramped bus.We got to Buff only to realize we were nowhere near the stadium! So we spent our last dollar on a cab ride 1/2 way to Rich Stadium.By the time we got there, it was dark and it seemed like 100's of miles of parking lots packed w/people.we were like"okay-we are tired and hungry but we are here and we have one joint, lets sit on this grass hill-smoke one and just chill"as soon as we lit up-all of our friends came boppin' along in the Trippin' Traffic! We were like WHATSUPP!!so we went back to there car and shared what food and shelter we had and the next day went to one of the most kick-ass dead shows I ever seen.A well deserved night of Fireworks Weed and GRATEFUL DEAD!!!oh yeah--- as far as the car:it was just a loose battery cable(oopsy!)PS:we left it in DEDHAM MASS!! HAHAHAHAHA

10,000 maniacs and the Dead. What a wonderful afternoon.. As one attendee observed the initial blast of energy during the opening song was astonishing.. EVERYBODY got off, I remember watching a stadium employee boogie right out of his shoes!..

This was my second show...and what a show. I spent the entire time at the back of the field dancing my face off. As I bopped to the rhythmic drums I bumped into a friend that I didn't even know was at the show. When "I Will Take You Home" started I asked my bud (he of more than 30 shows at that time) what the song was. He told me he thought it was a newer song that Brent wrote for his daughter. It grabbed my soul. I've used that song to sing both of my daughters to bed over the years. When they sing it back to me, well, you guys with daughters know... Strangers stopping strangers - just to shake their hands...

I was feeling pretty good throughout this show and so my memories are all warm and fuzzy. I do remember thinking that they'd play "This Land Is Your Land" as an encore since they'd just done it for a CBS news segment 2 days earlier in Foxboro but I didn't complain about the Fourth of July "US Blues." And yeah, "I Will Take You Home" wasn't always what I wanted to hear (esp. when it debuted going into Drums one year earlier at Alpine) but it was pretty sweet on this night. I always wonder about Brent's little girl, who is now a young woman. Where was she bound? What was she doing? What did she find? It's really kind of sad to think of that song now and Brent leaving us all too early.

Great 4th Summertime show. Always remember the singer for 10,000 idiots whining that all the heads were paying no attention to them and next time they played home they would do their own gig. To bad she didnt do her own gig that day. Only bad part of the day.

I think this must have been my first outdoor show. I remember being really close to the stage and wondering why I used to like the 10,000 Maniacs in high school. I remember dancing to the Dead and loving the view of the stage, but then something got into my head. I think I left before the very end, which now seems outrageous, but it was some kind of head trip I was on. I believe that I thought I needed to find nature, so I walked up to this wooded area a little ways away from the stadium. This guy named Frank was there who was also there for the show and also tripping. He was very odd and a local. Anyway, looking back, I didn't know what I was missing, because certainly I could have visited the trees anytime, but seeing the Grateful Dead that particular day was a once in a lifetime experience!
