Kesey was there, and Phil sang backup on US Blues
The "third mike" that went up during the drum segments on this tour (for Mickey's centerstage talking drum solo) stayed up all night. We could barely take our eyes off it, and, sure enough, Phil stepped up and sang back-up on the encore. Thousands of happy Heads on Long Island that night.
Smokin' hot show
This show, my 5th, is often over-shadowed by the well-known show on the 6th that Dick immortalized as his Pick #13. Well, don't pass this one up, boys and girls - this show smokes from start to end. That whole spring tour was just amazing - my other favorite, that I have had a tape of since a week afterwards, is 5/5/81.
fenario80 is absolutely correct, Phil stepped right up and sang during US Blues; hardly anyone would believe me afterwards, but I saw it with my own eyes - we were ecstatic!
To top it off, on the ride home (with PK and JM in JM's Chevy, took a wrong turn off Route 3 towards Lodi, NJ, just as "Stuck in Lodi Again" played on the radio... Cosmic indeed...
