Grateful Dead

I was in the bay area that week to find a place in SF and move to the left coast. My wife had no idea that I was also attending two GD shows at the Berkeley theatre. I was staying with a college bud Ken and while we were at the show Renee called from Worcester and found out I was at the show. She was pissed! Well as the angels were with me I rented this great place at the top of Asbury in the Haight and I got to see two amazing shows. This is the smallest venue I have seen the boys at, by far. I was in the 6 or 7th row. I remember sheets the band had placed in the entrance hall where fans could write messages to the band. There were several questions above each sheet. What song would you like us to play? Message to the band? A few months later I moved to Cali and life would never be the same again.

I'll probably never be able to document all the shows I went to, but I remember being there for the first set, to see Bobby do "Desolation Row," one of my favorite Dylan songs.

This is one of those small theaters that was built for orchestras and so the accoustics are very good. Anyone can be heard from anywhere in the audience. During the song "Morning Dew"; the 3rd verse I think; "thought I heard a baby crying", the voice of a single person could be heard coming from the back half of the audience singing harmony on this line along with Jerry from the stage; spontaneous applause immediately following the line; I was the singer in the back that sang the harmony to that line of the song.... It was a great moment that everyone seemed to enjoy the spontaneous voice from the back... One of my best memories!
