If I posted everything I have on my iPod, I'd probably break the server, but I did just remove over 80 albums from my laptop to keep the hard drive from drowning. I did, however, add Dinosaur Jr.'s debut album "Dinosaur" and "Confusion Is Sex (Plus Kill Yr. Idols)" by Sonic Youth.

A few new albums are getting my attention recently. I really enjoy the funky songs and fun lyrics to ALO's new album "Roses & Clover." I really like the album, "Try" is my favorite song so far. Also, Wilco's new "Sky Blue Sky" is a stripped down almost Dylan-esque effort by this very talented band. Awesome lyrics and melodies that just get better and better with each listen. I also recently fell back in love with Aoxomoxoa, lots of good ones on there.

It's not into the ipod yet, but I just downloaded 9.12.73, College of William & Mary. That's where I met my wife, and the show was played 25 years to the day before our wedding day. Oh, the bliss. Also just grabbed a nice performance by John Hartford at Telluride Bluegrass in the mid-'80s. I've taken a few shots at Wilco and just can't seem to dig it. Maybe one more try.

Oooh, John Hartford. I only saw him a couple times at multi-decade intervals, but wotta guy. This reminds me that I have to load onto the iPod that John Hartford Tribute show with most of the O Brother crew at which Hartford himself comes on at the end and says, "I know why you're doing all this. You think I'm gonna CROAK!" The only Wilco tune that has really grabbed me is "California Stars," which I am forever trying to get my friends' band to do. Of course, it's not typical Wilco, being Woody Guthrie's words set to music and Billy Bragg in the mix somewhere, but man, I love that song. Usually play it about four times in a row before moving on to something else. Latest Dead show on my iPod is Veneta 8-28-82, which may not rank with the great shows of all time but was a really transcendent mix of the perfect band, the perfect setting, the perfect crowd, the perfect vibe. Also it saw the return of Dupree's after a long hiatus, and was the debut of "Day Job." Which I was very proud of myself for recognizing because Hunter had done it at the 10-9-81 show in SF, which seared my brain and changed my life forever. If I could have one show again it might well be that one.

John Hartford moved into the house next door to me when he moved out to California in 1968. He was a very talented guy. As to what's new on the IPod: some music from a couple of groups that I got turned onto at SpringFest this year, Crooked Still and Ollabelle. And the most recent GD is the great 1976 New Year's show at the Cow Palace, my first and still favorite New Years show.

new on my ipod recently: Bonerama's new CD - they're a brass band from New Orleans who are so wonderfully funky, 4 'bones, a sousaphone, guitar and drums. Sounds weird but oh so work. check out http://www.bonerama.net (heh. don't go to the .com unless you're interested in, um, another sort of bone). Roger Waters from MSG 5/30/07 latest GD on there would be 4/6/82 Spectrum. one of my all time ever attended faves.

Currently up in the rotation is Phil and Friends at the Riv in Chicago, 10-21-00, Just a Little Light. Latest thing to knock me out is The Great 1955 Shrine Concert with some pretty amazing live gospel music. I've been all about Jerry Garcia 5/5/82 Oregon State Prison lately, especially Ruben and Cherise. I've also been listening to Greg Brown's The Live One a lot. "Canned Goods" is epic folk poetry at it's best. My Morning Jacket's set at Bonnaroo 2004 gets a play on a weekly basis. "Phone Went West" and "Steam Curtain" are crazy good. I remember the storm coming in as the band began Steam. Completely insane. Yo Soy Boricua!

Through the day-to-day today included a set of Beethoven. When I drive off I'll have the last part of 5/16/72 jamming w/ 5/18/72 at the ready. Tonight will feature Blanton-Webster, Gerry Mulligan, Miles, Davis/Griffin, Bill Evans, & Brother Jack McDuff. The jazz jam session probably will be abridged because my youngest has a softball game and she, no doubt, will go four for four with a stellar defensive play to save the game ... Hasta luego.

ambient/trance space music. (play it thru winamp on yer computer) here: The Drone Zone http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1032 (just go to "Play", and then "URL", and paste this web address in to the dialog box...) === even though now, i work at home... and the only co-worker i have is my 2-yr old grandson... yet, when i worked in a conventional "office" a few years ago, people would walk by and ask, "what is it that you're listening to...?" i've always been a HUGE fan of the dead's "space" segments... so, this e-radio broadcast site is KILLER (for me anyways). tune it in... space out.

I review cds for musesmuse.com, an indie singer/songwriter site, and I've just started downloading highlights from some of those discs: a great band from Duluth called Teague Alexy with the Feelin Band and a one-man band named Tim Hirons. I'll keep you posted, as these are artists who need to be heard. As far as GD, I've got a monster Scarlet>Fire from 3/88, a nice, revved up Jack Straw>Franklin's from 80, highlights from Without a Net (1/2 Step, Eyes, Help>Slip>Frank), Brent's Gentlemen Start Your Engines, Fallout from Phil Zone, highlights from Postcards of the Hanging (Ballad of a Thin Man!). Cool stuff: Willie Nelson's reggae tunes, Kung Fu Fighting, Desmond Dekker's reggae classic Israelites, Manhattans' version of "Shining Star," Jayhawks 2nd disc Tomorrow the Green Grass ... I made a large trade for a bunch of tapes a while back. This guy threw in a bunch of old Grateful Dead Hour recordings that he made. They had been collecting dust in my bedroom until I started going threw them to see what was there. Just listened to a cool interview with Ken Nordine. He and Dave Gans were reminiscing about covering the New Years show, 1990. Seemed like a wild time! Bungie jumpers from the ceiling!?I've also been listening to an audience copy of the Jerry tribute show from the Gathering of the Vibes 2005. David gans was also on the bill that night, along with Dark Star, David Nelson, Peter Rowan, Donna Jean, and tons more. It was a great weekend! anybody else happen to be there?
