Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music spanning 15 years of Grateful Dead history, 1972, 1979 and 1987.
Our first stop this week is on 10/17/72 in St. Louis, the first show of a terrific three night run at the Fox Theater. This show lacked the major second usual for this time (Other One or Dark Star; not the case for the next two nights…), but featured excellent playing throughout. From set two, we have Ramble On Rose, Mississippi Half-Step, Sugar Magnolia, Not Fade Away GDTRFB Not Fade Away, Uncle John's Band, Johnny B. Goode.
Our next stop this week is the start of the second set from 11/10/79 in Ann Arbor, MI, where the Grateful Dead didn't play often (about one stop per decade: 1967, 1971, 1979 and 1989) but they always played well. From that show we have Alabama Getaway>Promised Land, Ship Of Fools, Samson and Delilah, Terrapin Station>Playing In The Band.
Lastly this week we have the start of the second set from 9/15/87 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the first show of a five night run, signaling the band's return to MSG after a four year absence. From this show we have China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider>Estimated Prophet>Eyes of the World.
Thanks for stopping by, and be sure to join us for more tunes from the vault.
