    Glorious
I was there with my brothers and father. We kids were teenagers but hip. As I heard it, the bands had some time to kill before shows that night, so they just set up and played for free, in one of the outdoor plazas. When we heard about this we hustled over - sorry, Dad, this is what we want to do. My biggest memory of this show was the combined jam after each band played a set. Think about this for a moment - three drummers, two amazing bass players at the peak of their powers, all those guitars, all those voices - what are they going to do? They got a groove going, Jerry and Jorma trading licks, feeling each other out, pushing and pulling and reaching higher, for about ten minutes, then Marty Balin grabbed the mike and sang, "Let me tell you bout my baby!" Gloria! Outstanding! Led the crowd in a "G-L-O-R-I-A - Gloria" chant, then they took off and never came back to the second verse. Just amazing. Now THIS is a show I wish I had a tape of! (None exists, as far as I can tell, owing to the impromptu nature of the show.) furthering mandolin consciousness

    Missed this...
But I did attend the noon show at Place Ville Marie, which was life-changing.

I remember this show because it was the first time I saw Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. My high school friend & I were at the Expo when we heard over the PA that there was a music show starting at the youth pavilion in 30 minutes featuring the Jefferson Airplane. We hustled over and picked a seat in the 2nd row. The Dead opened and although not a great show by Dead standards, they did make me want more. Jefferson Airplane was outstanding (at least to me) and I remember Grace Slick looking right at me singing White Rabbit - 'Feed your head'. Wow, talk about a great happenstance. It started me on the road to being a hippie and a Deadhead. Thanks. Together, more or less in line Tom Clark
