Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum welcomes Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux for special interview and audiovisual presentation

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will host a special evening presentation in conjunction with its latest special exhibit, Grateful Dead: The Long, Strange Trip, with Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux on Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m. Lemieux will be interviewed on stage in the Museum’s Foster Theater and share various audio and video clips from the Grateful Dead archives and take questions from the audience, as well.

About Grateful Dead: The Long, Strange Trip
Grateful Dead: The Long, Strange Trip explores the band from a non-linear point of view. Individual sections within the exhibit will be devoted to Grateful Dead as a recording group and a touring band, the fans who devotedly followed them, tapers and fellow travelers (people who were important to the band). It will include finished and working manuscripts for classic songs, handwritten notes from legendary taper Dick Latvala, artifacts from original sound designer Owsley “Bear” Stanley, and promoter Bill Graham’s Father Time robe and Grateful Dead Hotline answering machine.

Art and design have always been closely associated with Grateful Dead, and this exhibit included an unprecedented collection of original artwork that is immediately recognizable from the band’s album covers and posters. It features numerous instruments used by the Grateful Dead over the years, including keyboards, drums, percussion, guitars and elements from the legendary Wall of Sound PA system. The Grateful Dead Archive at the University of California-Santa Cruz has loaned a significant number of items from their extraordinary collection, which opened to the public in Spring 2012.

    Great interview
We were @ the RRHOF last night. Dave played Dave's Pick Vol 5 #1(UCLA). Playin>UJB>Morning Dew. Sounded fantastic. The sound system in the hall was great It's nice to sit around with a bunch of heads and talk tapes. Dave did a great job. Way better seeing him talk live than on a QuickTime video. The video stream is posted on rockhall.com. It's good to be in the Cleve. The exhibit is a must see.

    huge reveal
Dave played a tape that hasn't been heard in 40 years during the interview...sounds like Caution...into NFA...into Lovelight...amazing reveal...great Pigpen rap...if you're not listening tune in now!He is playing the unheard Dark Star from 11-69 now. Just now playing an uncirculated 5-4-79 Sbd. Brent's 3rd show from Hampton...Estimated Prophet...nice climax! 5-3 not in the vault...now playing 5-12 from Amherst...previously uncirculated...Terrapin -> Playin'... Final clip 4-25-77 from Passaic end of Wharf Rat...are these any indication of what we have in store for DaP 2013? Or just good fun? Either way, it quite whets my appetite for another great year of releases! Jumping into some 1989 video now...Playing in the Band from Giants Stadium 7-10-89 and Throwing Stones from RFK 7-13-89...maybe some video on the horizon? He also mentions some video from HJK in '85 where Bobby climbs up the scaffolding during Sugar Mags a la Bono... Question time...on the docket now...why not 8-27-72 video/audio? Answer: 'it's complicated'...not happening for the 'next little while'...working for it to happen...on the 'top of list'...
