I made a large trade for a bunch of tapes a while back. This guy threw in a bunch of old Grateful Dead Hour recordings that he made. They had been collecting dust in my bedroom until I started going threw them to see what was there. Just listened to a cool interview with Ken Nordine. He and Dave Gans were reminiscing about covering the New Years show, 1990. Seemed like a wild time! Bungie jumpers from the ceiling!?I've also been listening to an audience copy of the Jerry tribute show from the Gathering of the Vibes 2005. David gans was also on the bill that night, along with Dark Star, David Nelson, Peter Rowan, Donna Jean, and tons more. It was a great weekend! anybody else happen to be there? I review cds for musesmuse.com, an indie singer/songwriter site, and I've just started downloading highlights from some of those discs: a great band from Duluth called Teague Alexy with the Feelin Band and a one-man band named Tim Hirons. I'll keep you posted, as these are artists who need to be heard. As far as GD, I've got a monster Scarlet>Fire from 3/88, a nice, revved up Jack Straw>Franklin's from 80, highlights from Without a Net (1/2 Step, Eyes, Help>Slip>Frank), Brent's Gentlemen Start Your Engines, Fallout from Phil Zone, highlights from Postcards of the Hanging (Ballad of a Thin Man!). Cool stuff: Willie Nelson's reggae tunes, Kung Fu Fighting, Desmond Dekker's reggae classic Israelites, Manhattans' version of "Shining Star," Jayhawks 2nd disc Tomorrow the Green Grass ... I can listen to these every day. Add 4/29/71 Fillmore East with the extraordinary Alligator--------GDRFB and a day is complete!!!!!

I just can't stop listening to the Omni, Atlanta, GA show right now. I was there and it meant a lot to me to be at the show, going through life changes and all at the time. But, mostly I can't get Eternity>Liberty off repeat. I tear up everytime I hear it! My iPod will probably start smoking if I don't select something else. Sooo, heartfelt!! Also, I have 10/9/89 (no explaination needed), 6/22/92 Star Lake, 5/19/92 Cal Expo, 3/20/92 Copps Coliseum and 8/19/89 Greek Theater currently on the playlist. Almost time for a reload, but not quite yet! When confronted by bears.......

I've really been digging Jesse McReynolds plays the songs of the Grateful Dead, a tributie to Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. It's got a killer version of Birdsong and I think the best Alabamam Getaway I've ever heard. He's a bluegrass legend. Kind of ironic that Jerry use to follow him and his brother, Jim, around back in the day and now the teacher pays tribute to the follower.

A friend of mine recently passed on an AWESOME10/5/05 instant live recording of the Black Crowes at the 9:30 club. OUTSTANDING GIG. With that package he also passed on two Chris Robinson Brotherhood gigs and a copy of his second solo effort "This Magnificent Distance" and I can't get over them. Train Robbers is one of the greater tracks I have heard in a long time. I can't believe I went this long without getting into Chris' solo records. and the ever-presents that NEVER leave my stereo David Crosby-If I Could Only Remember my name Paul Kantner-Blows Against The Empire Jefferson Airplane-Volunteers Moby Grape-Live Bootleg (official release from sundazed) The Allman Brothers Band-One Way Out: An Evening at The Beacon Theatre And for X-mas a friend gave me a flash drive with the complete Europe 72 recordings. That alone made me cry and I still haven't listened to all of them although I really dig the Rotterdam radio broadcast and Hamburg. That's it for...this one.

Right around Christmas, I decided to listen to every song on every album on my iPod and weed out the stuff I really like/want to keep from the stuff I can live without. With that said, here are a few albums I've absolutely fallen in with and listen to on a regular basis: - "At Fillmore East (Deluxe Edition)" by The Allman Brothers Band - "Warpaint Live" by The Black Crowes - "Honey Pig" by Bosley - "Safe as Milk" by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band - "Soul Exorcism Redux" by James Chance & the Contortions - "Carnegie Hall" by Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention - "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" by The Huntingtons - "In the Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson *200 gram vinyl ed.* - "Hard Ways" by Los Duggans - "Talking Songs for Walking/Necklace of Heads" by Lungfish - "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd - "Complete Control Sessions" by Scream - "Stretching Out" by The Skatalites - "Univox" by Univox

I just downloaded a bunch of Dr. Dog albums. They are a band from Philly with great pop/rock songs and Beach Boy/Beatles-like harmonies. They have been making me smile ever since I found them, (which is about 3-4 years later than most of the people I have found that like them.) Check em' out! I am particularly fond of their albums "Easy Beat" and "Fate" right now... though the others are great too!

But, Listening alot to The "Olympia Show" from Europe 72 box set, Thank you folks for selling individual shows!!! Olympia is just about the best thing I have ever heard, a very unique time in Dead History and it sounds awesome. It is a shame there were so many problems with the box set, EU72 is what turned me on to the Dead. A friend of mine has the whole box set, He says the first ten shows are unlistenable to because there is so much distortion.
