    Where is the Love?
Too much bashing each other. What drew me toward the Grateful Dead was, of course, the incredible psychedelic music and visions as well as the upbeat and positive crowds. Don't jugde eachother.........They love eachother! The Dr.

    Thanks Johnman!
For me this is how I learn. By talking with others that don't totally agree with me. And your right, this is NOT billed as a Dead show. Are you going Johnman?Well I hope to see ALL of you there and know that the X factor could be present on Monday night. It is like a non denomination church, we all come to dance and really celebrate life no matter our leanings. Thats cool.

This country is very screwed up right now, and needs people to be educated and aware of what is going on. Anything that might increase involvement, and ultimately make the government more accountable to the people is a great thing and valuable service to the principles this country was founded upon. Regardless of the stance being taken. You as an educated American should be able to make up your own mind, without personally attacking those who think differently than you. I live in NY, so will probably vote 3rd party, because I believe we need more choices, but if I was in a bubble state, I would make sure McOutOfTouch, doesn't run us further into the ground. More political discourse will educate more Americans, only a good thing. Educated Americans need to learn tolerance, and that acceptance of our differences is what can make this country a great place. So what if you don't agree with the politics of your favorite musicians, movie stars, celebs, etc. You are supposed to have your own brain, use it for yourself.

Hey There, For those of you brothers and sisters who choose to participate with the Dead in support of Obama and Biden this week, where are the happen' places to stay? Has anyone heard? Where will Shakedown be? Bless you and the Dead for proudly supporting a candiate that will unite our country. I am a paying customer, not a panhandler looking for a miracle, although a miracle is what this country needs!! I understand some of your bickerings, but you need to take a look at the souls participating in the Dead's shows. Some of our brothers and sisters are lost, absolutely lost, wandering and following along, just as many people become Catholics, or Protestants or other religions-they NEED something. Don't fault them for wandering around, selling grilled cheese and hoping for a miracle-that is the life they love and choose. Give them a hug, not a dirty look when you see them. I love Heads, all Heads, and have witnessed acts of love and pure giving from true Heads, as well as acts of stupidity and violence such as the Orlando event and the Deercreek event-people need to respect everyone and quit enticing violence. You may choose to be some creepy banker, or an attorney, or a doctor, a news anchor, or a 1st Dude. Life is about freedom and choice. Let's pray for wisom, that's what our country needs now more than ever, a wise voice. And the Dead know it. And they are speaking out-and Amen to that my brothers and sisters. We do not know what Jerry would do, someone was right in stating that. I believe that the band, even Bill, knows this is a pivitol point in America, and who knows what they and Jerry would discuss, and how they'd feel. The Dead is rising up to help make us alive again, so welcome them, do not bring hate into this. If you dopn't like it, than don't listen. But vote, please, we need one of these two candidates, your vote counts and matters. Anyhow, people, where are you staying? What's the word on affordable hotels, etc.? Haven't heard a peep. Anyone camping? Post and let us know. Pray for wisom and peace, and get rid of your hate-America, our people, our country, our entire planet and every creature on it) need all of us now more than ever to speak out loudly- Love~

I got my answers! I didn't realize this forum went backwards, so I have found the info I need regarding where to stay, etc. Peace again to all, and I hope and pray that all of you realize that Obama is the right choice for our country now, and that is why the Dead have risen...to show us the light and the way. Don't waste your vote, please, I beg of you...

You are not a Head, you are an OUT OF TOUCH person whom I personally feel very sad for. I'm not brainwashed, but you sir, are. Hope you get a clue some day...

What, precisely, does "creationism and abstinence [...] Drill, Baby, Drill and shoot wolves and saw their legs off for $150." have to do with "Marx's first doctrine, governmental control of education"? Nothing. Your post is nothing but a reactionary, instinctive response to someone opposing your own world-view. The problem with the brainwashed is that they don't realize that they are brainwashed. Ad-hominem attacks on fellow posters is uncalled for and a further example of an intemperate and intolerant attitude. I guess I've been wasting my breath... er, keystrokes on this forum.

Stealing an election??? Hmmmmmmmm....because of a few people who registered UNDER 5,000 bad registrations? Or is it because he's just too damn "popular amongst the elite"? Laughable. Obama's inspired over 20 million people and you're still crying "terrorist". Laughable. So your response (Ed Sieb) to me, simply because I support Obama, is that I'm brainwashed??? Laughable. I'm plenty old enough to make up my own mind after doing extensive research on the 2 major candidates. Sorry - but name-calling just doesn't make it at my level. If you wanna play with me, you'll have to grow up a little. Re: "Brainwashed" - I wasn't rsponding to you, but to 5jesters. I wasn't spewing on about Marx, but merely quoting silentlyscreaming. He was doing the spewing. The latin phrase I used is qute common now in English. It means a "personal attack". I guess up here in Canada, we might be a bit more erudite than you? And just to be accurate,. I wasn't doing the name calling. I was merely describing silentlyscreaming's post as I perceived it. As far as name calling goes...silentlyscreaming said:
You are not a Head, you are an OUT OF TOUCH person whom I personally feel very sad for. I'm not brainwashed, but you sir, are. Hope you get a clue some day...
Please get your facts right before you do your own spewing. Another one with a reactionary, instinctive response to someone opposing his own world-view. I give up.

My mistake, I accidentally attributed to silentlyscreaming a quote actually said by 5jesters.
It was actually 5jesters who said:"You are not a Head, you are an OUT OF TOUCH person whom I personally feel very sad for. I'm not brainwashed, but you sir, are. Hope you get a clue some day..."
Just for the record. I stand corrected.

I believe I qualify as a Dead Head on the single fact that I love the music and went to IMO more than enough shows to be more than a casual fan. Is 5jesters saying you have to go with the masses to be a Dead Head? I am quite certain that being of the majority is not what a Dead Head is made of. Oh well, I think I'll just go watch the home movies from the Egypt DVD again and think about how if JG were around they would not be doing such an obviously political show. Again, if you don't have a tix try not to make the band look worse by gate crashing.

I WAS! What I recall was they 'Boys' that some of you jerks are all over inviting Al Gore onto the stage when he was the VP of this country... FROM WHAT I REMEMBER ALSO IS THAT JERRY WAS AT THESE SHOWS PERFORMING SOME GREAT GUITAR WORK.... Politics is a volatile subject though but let's all remember that the one and only' Jerry, that every one has to diefy, was inded aware of the political enviornment in this country and on this planet when he was on it and not just doing coke and heroin ALL DAY long...

The Dead political? NOooo, no, never. What about Throwing Stones, We Can Run, Greenpeace? I think Libertarian ideas are fine. Nobodys business if you do. Great. However, I know I feel like the stakes are too high in this one. I think the band and a lot of the country does too, so for some to suggest that they have somehow "lost it" is just not fair. Just because somebody is not voting for one of the third parties does not make them sheep. We all know we have two choices for this election and Mccain or the Republican party is nowhere near Libertarian ideas. I've seen many, too many, non violent friends lives ruined with their SOCIAL policies. I know Obama will not be perfect, but no one or no system will ever be. I don't love Democrats, REALLY! but I believe he is not just another party hack. Conservative because of your money and taxes? LOL, look at the economy! So much for trickle down. Bush and Mccain want to buy up mortgages and banks with tax money. THAT smells like socialism to me. The next president could decide supreme court majority as well. Really? Really??? Seriously? Deadheads for conservative justices? I have a hard time with that one. Deadheads for nukes??? Just so you know, my wife is voting Libertarian. I feel she is throwing it away, but ...Deadheads for Mccain? Anyway, don't want to go to this show? Don't go. The whole Jerry rolling in his grave thing: Somewhere around here in a book, there is clearly a pic of him along with Mickey and MG and most of the band at the WHITE HOUSE in 93 before a Cap Centre show. Can't find it off the top of my head but I know it's in there. Also, a pic with Leahy. Didn't Clinton and Al Gore hang out backstage at atleast one RFK show too? I'm pretty sure. BTW: Jerry Garcia: ON BILL CLINTON: Let's face it, the guy was the governor of Whatchamacallit — I mean, Marin County has more money than Arkansas, for Christ's sake. So I'm not convinced he can do a great job. Though I think he wants to. ON AL GORE: He's a good guy. He's definitely a hands-on kind of guy. The environment has a shot with Gore in there. I know Al Gore. He wears my ties.

once the elections are over and we can get back on the human tracks.... Well, I don't exactly know What's going on in the world today Don't know what there is to say About the way the people are treating Each other, not like brothers Leaders take us far away from ecology With mythology and astrology Has got some words to say About the way we live today Why can't we learn to love each other It's time to turn a new face To the whole world wide human race Stop the money chase Lay back, relax Get back on the human track Stop racing toward oblivion Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in And that's a thing really.... enjoy the show

So, it wasn't you who said: >> The problem with the brainwashed is that they don't realize that they are brainwashed. Way down here in the US, we call that name-calling. I now see you didn't start the Marx garbage...so I apologize. And, for the record - you sound incredibly pompous when you direct such incredibly patronizing phrases as, "The latin phrase I used is qute common now in English," and my personal favorite, "I guess up here in Canada, we might be a bit more erudite than you?".. Get a grip on yourself, Western. Finally, my statement may have been reactionary - but it was not because you oppose my views. If you take a deep breath of reality, you may find out that there ARE people who can accept several opposing views. I was being reactionary to you seemingly referring to anyone voting for Obama as "brainwashed." You come across (and I'm not saying this is how you ARE as a person, just how you come across with your posting) as someone who feels as if they're of a far higher level of intelligence than anyone here. I'm not going to get into a pissing contest of who's smarter - because I'd never understimate anyone. But, personally, I'm done with you - you bore me. ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

relax... just because some Bob Barr supporters (Silentlyscreaming) are trolling this forum doesn't mean we can't have normal... or somewhat normal discussions on politics. ACORN is nothing. last I checked it NOTHING...NO CHARGES... SQUAT has come out of this investigation. Furthermore even if ACORN did falsify records...a real living person has to show up with real, existing ID to vote...so registering votes means squat when people actually have to go o th3 booth. Anyways Silentlyscreaming aka BOB BARR is barking up the wrong tree on this forum. Outnumbered and ill-equipped I'd say.

I DO NOT HAVE TO LOOK AT A COMPUTER AGAIN UNTIL AFTER THE SHOW, THANK GOD! OBAMA HAS A BETTER CHANCE OF BEING A GREAT LEADER THAN MCCAIN DOES. MCCAIN HAS BEEN AROUND FOR EVER AND HAS NOT DONE MUCH EXCEPT FOR BLOCK MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY IN HIS HOME STATE. OBAMA HAS RISEN QUICKLY AND MAY BE THE SHOOTING STAR THIS NATION NEEDS RIGHT NOW!Many of us agree with the surviving members idea that Obama may bring back a greater level of freedom than the last president believed in. On October 11th, 2008 silentlyscreaming said:read it if you like to open your mind for a change. http://www.click2houston.com/investigates/17671375/detail.html I just read the article above. It cited 2 dead folks who appear to have cast ballots. Absentee, sent in by someone else? They don't say. They don't give any figures about how many actual fraudulent votes occurred. They don't mention any evidence, or even charges, of an organized voter fraud effort. They do say that "The [State Auditor's Office] did not find any instances in which potentially ineligible voters actually voted" -- though the auditors obviously missed the 2 examples cited by the reporters. Bottom line: There is no evidence anywhere in America that actual fraudulent voting is occurring on any scale that matters anywhere in the country, despite the Republican Party's near-hysterical hyperbole about it for the last several years. ACORN is frequently the boogie-man in these charges. ACORN hires low-income folks to go out and collect signatures, and they pay them by the number they turn in. Some of those signature gatherers defraud ACORN by making up names. There is absolutely no evidence that anyone so "registered" has actually ever shown up to cast a ballot. This is a non-issue. Actually, it's more than a non-issue, more than just a red herring. It's part of an organized campaign by the right wing to disenfranchise as many new voters, poor voters and minority voters as possible. With their baseless cries of voter fraud, they've pushed through draconian "election reforms" all across America. These "reforms" make it a little harder for new voters to register, and ensure that existing voters who might not have a stable address or a driver's license (i.e., the poor and minorities) are much more likely to get kicked off the voter rolls. In a close race, depressing the other side's vote by 2 or 3 percent is all you need to do, and that's what this whole "vote fraud" hysteria is about. Jerry was pretty much a libertarian in spirit (and I agree that if he were alive, the Dead would not be doing a benefit for any politician -- though they might for a group like ACORN). Most of us identify with the Libertarians' concern for civil liberties and individual rights. But the willingness of many libertarians to identify with the right wing, and embrace spurious causes like this, keep me and others from taking them seriously as a force for positive change.

Jerry will only be there in spirit. here's the Garcia interview [most of it] from the early 1980s re Jerry not wanting to support an individual politician : JGarcia: We're friendly. For me, I can't see relating to the audience any other way. We exist by their grace. It's very hard for me to do anything but like them. They're nice people. This thing of following bands on the road is very funny. Some bands make it hard for other bands; some audiences are real rowdy and smash everything. You get lumped in with everybody, and you have to constantly separate yourself. Listen, our audience is not the Black Sabbath audience. JC: So your main responsibility is to your audience. JGarcia: Sure. Of course, we want to give them their money's worth, but we also want to avoid putting them in positions of harm. There are some places in America where we can't play because of the friction between the local authorities and the audience. We've had the experience of, basically, acting as bait. The first couple of times we played Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, the police busted about 100 people. They took advantage of the situation. We have to try to make sure that doesn't happen. JC: Have you ever worked for the authorities? Would you ever consider playing to support a political candidate? JGarcia: Never. We draw the line at that. Who's that cool, really? Who's so cool you would want them leading people? Nobody, certainly no politician. We've been hit on by all kinds of them, candidates, gurus, holy men. All kinds of power freaks have hit on us at one time or another to raise money for them or get on the bandwagon and sell their trip. It's our responsibility to keep ourselves free of those connotations. I want the Grateful Dead experience to be one of those things that doesn't have a hook. We're all very anti-authoritarian. There's nothing that we believe so uniformly and so totally that we could use the Grateful Dead to advertise it. JC: Not even toothpaste? JGarcia: Not even REAL GOOD toothpaste. JC: Do you still get hassled by the law? JGarcia: It's an ever-present danger. I have a feeling this whole Reagan era means a tightening down from the top, so we're always on guard. We try to be as cool as we possibly can. The world is still not that safe for people like us. But I don't think any law enforcement agency sees us as a real menace. JC: That's interesting, because ten years ago you were perceived as a menace to public health and safety. JGarcia: Well, we might still be. It's just that nothing's ever come of it. No major disasters or anything; our audience comes out for a good time and that's it. We've had countless sheriffs and chiefs of police giving us points because they've dealt with our crowd, and they know the difference between our crowd and other crowds. I mean, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they have thick dossiers on all of us and they're just waiting for us to make a false move. But I don't think so. I think we've won the fight against our Sixties image. JC: But that image was cultivated. The skulls and the Hell's Angels and. . . JGarcia: Well, let me put it this way: We didn't make any effort to avoid scaring people. But we didn't think we'd scare them as much as we did. It all seemed pretty normal to us. JC: Were you surprised by the power of the images you put forth, by the power that other people invested in you because of them? JGarcia: Well, one of the things about the name, right from the beginning, was that it has a lot of power. It was kind of creepy. People resisted it at first. They didn't want us to be the Grateful Dead. It was too weird. But that response has sort of flattened out. I don't think the connotation is anywhere near as creepy as it used to be, though sometimes the power is very evident. It comes back to us. Every once in a while, some soul out there overamps. And all of a sudden there's a guy banging on the door with a whole complex pathology, a whole weird Grateful Dead universe woven up with images from our stuff. JC: Well, at least that's not happening much anymore. JGarcia: Hopefully there aren't as many suckers for rhetoric now. It was so obvious what was happening back in those days. Like the Black Panthers. I mean, what happens when a bunch of black guys put on berets and start packing submachine guns? They're going to get killed, man, they're going to get fucking killed. You can't do that in America. You can't wave guns in the faces of the biggest guns in the world. It's suicide. That's obvious, but how could you say it? LIke, all that campus confusion seemed laughable too. Why enter this closed society and make an effort to liberalize it when that's never been its function? Why not just leave it and go somewhere else? Why not act out your fantasies, using the positive side of your nature rather than just struggling? Just turn your back on it and split - it's easy enough to find a place where people will leave you alone. You don't have to create confrontation. It's a game, and it's a no-win game. I remember once being at a be-in or one of those things, and the Berkeley contingent - Jerry Rubin and those guys - got up on stage and started haranguing the crowd. All of a sudden it was like everybody who had ever harangued a crowd. It was every asshole who told people what to do. The words didn't matter. It was that angry tone. It scared me; it made me sick to my stomach. JC: Well, it must be hard to be stuck with your own charisma, discovering that you have it and not knowing what to do with it. JGarcia: Yeah. It's the only thing you have. And charisma is no shield. It's not something you can hide behind. All you can do with it is stuff like making speeches. And where do you go with that? It's a drag to be a celebrity. It can even be a drag to be a talented celebrity, with something to do. But if you're not a performer, being a celebrity could be all negative. JC: But don't you have people coming around and saying, "Be my leader; tell me what I'm supposed to do"? JGarcia: We tell them we don't know. I've made every effort to tell them that we're not in a position to lead, that everybody's going to have to lead themselves. What it boils down to is: Who do you trust? Who would be such a perfect kind of person that you would trust him enough to follow him? Nobody I know. And even fewer people want to lead. And the kind of people who do want to lead are mostly assholes. I mean, being a politician is a lot like being a stand-up comic. The only thing you have is your personality, and the only thing you can do is stand up and say, "It's me, it's me, it's me." What kind of personality do you have to have to do such a thing? Do you want someone with that kind of personality controlling your life? No sir. NOW FELLOW DEADHEADS AND RELATED FANS REMEMBER THAT : 1. JERRY NEVER MET OR SAW SENATOR OBAMA 2. IF JERRY TRUSTED HIM AS HE SAYS HE'LL BE THERE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STAGE PLAYING LEAD FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE WE CAN'T SEE 3.AS MY WIFE POINTED OUT --BOB PHIL MICKEY AND BILL --NOT TO MENTION THE ALLMAN BROTHERS-- HAVE EVERY RIGHT IN THE WORLD TO DO THIS SHOW IN SUPPORT OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE THEY SUPPORT--IN THE SPIRIT JERRY GETS NO "SAY" HERE FOLKS DEAL WITH IT 4. JERRY IS NO LONGER ALIVE IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD NOR IS HE ON THE BALLOT-- SO I AM VOTING FOR OBAMA --THE AUDIENCE HAS THE RIGHT TO DISSENT BUT LET THE BAND HAVE A SAY SINCE IT IS THEIR CONCERT FOR THEIR POLITICAL REASONS AND NOT "OUR" CONCERT 5. HOPEFULLY GOVERNOR RENDELL OR WHOEVER IT WILL BE CAN KEEP ANY CHEERLEADING FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA TO A MINIMUM --OBAMA IS GOING TO WIN THE ELECTION-- HE IS OUR NEXT PRESIDENT --HE WILL BE A TREMENDOUS IMPROVEMENT OVER BUSH --AND HOPEFULLY RESTORE THE INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION OF THE USA --AND REPEAL THE BUSH DOCTRINE --BEFORE CHINA ADOPTS IT AS THEIR OWN AND NUKES US PREEMPTIVELY ....... AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST..... once the show starts [with "Promised Land"?] we can forget about dissension and join in the sound......and if the band feels good about this show a Spring/summer "final" Dead tour just may happen..... peace...... What is less well known about Garcia was the fact that he suffered for most of his life from a condition called sleep apnea. His sleep apnea was apparently diagnosed before he died, but it is unlikely that he ever took any steps to treat it. That his case might have been relatively severe may be surmised by the comments of his band mate, Phil Lesh. In Lesh's book, Searching for the Sound, Lesh relates how he and others were impressed with Garcia's loud and widely fluctuating snoring. Not just "Peggy-O" and "Jack-a-roe" or many Dylan covers but this interview from 1987 [excerpt] JGarcia: It's like the storyteller makes no choice—and neither do we. And neither do you, and neither does anybody else. I prefer that. I prefer to be hanging. I've always been really fond—in folk music, I've always been fond of the fragment. The song that has one verse. And you don't know anything about the characters, you don't know what they're doing, but they're doing something important. I love that. I'm really a sucker for that kind of song. There's a couple of songs in my acoustic set now, I get a chance to do the originals of some of the songs that Hunter and I later warped into alternate reality. There's a song that I do that—I think it's a Civil War song, although I'm not really sure. Its lyrics sound as though they date from about that period of time. But it's a fragment—it tells very little about what's happening. There's only three verses in it, but by the third verse— Interviewer: What's it called? JGarcia : It's called "Two Soldiers." You haven't heard me do it out here. I've loved the song for a long time—but I didn't learn it to do until we went to the East Coast. Interviewer :What happens in it? JGarcia : Well, this tune starts off with a Boston boy and a friend sitting around a campfire, and the Boston boy is saying, "I'll do what you want me to, provided you write to my mother, if I—if something happens to me." So we don't know what the other guy wanted him to do, and then he talks about his mother a little, like a good 19th-century boy. He talks about his mother a little, and then they go off to the battle. And then there's a great verse of battle stuff that has incredible lines in it. And the battle is over, and at the end of the battle the people who are dead, left on the hill after the battle, are the boy with the curly hair, the Boston boy, and the person he was talking to. So there's nobody to write to mother, and it ends. There's so little to it that you just barely understand what happened. Undoubtedly it was originally 20 verses. But it's got a beautiful melody and it's just real evocative. It's the kind of thing I'm a real sucker for. It's just a beautiful tune. Interviewer :"Sugaree" is kind of like that for me. JGarcia : Yeah, "Sugaree" is kind of like that. I like for a song to work that way. All my favorite stuff is like that. They're like little. . . But that's own my personal bias, and Hunter's really aware of it. So he knows how to really—I mean, if I want him to do something that's mysterious, he knows just what I like. And he writes me really well. When he does something that's my point of view autobiographically—like "Mission in the Rain" is a song that he wrote that's me. It's like it scratches that itch—any desire I have to write a song from my own point of view, Hunter does it as well as I could do it. So I go with his version. It's a lucky combination that works very well. Interviewer :It seems to me that the vast majority of the first 22 years of Grateful Dead songs have been situated in their own universe, that's everywhere and everyplace and nowhere and no place. JGarcia : That's right. Interviewer ; And it seems to me on the other hand that "In the Dark" is very much a creature of the '80s. JGarcia : Well, we're starting to find that place right here. That place that used to not have any strict location—I think if you take In the Dark and put it in some other decade, it speaks to that decade just as clearly. And it's equally nonspecific. I mean, if you really listen to it carefully it doesn't say anything that pins it to the '80s. It's stuff that pins it to this world, though. That may be the difference—we're finding that living this long of a time in this world and surviving it, there's some things that you start to be prepared to talk about......

Interviewer : What about in terms of the Dead? Were there times when the band was discouraged about its future? JGarcia : Well, there were times when we were really in chaotic spaces, but I don't think we've ever been totally discouraged. It just has never happened. There have been times everybody was off on their own trip to the extent that we barely communicated with each other. But it's pulses, you know? And right now everybody's relating pretty nicely to each other, and everybody's feeling very good, too. There's a kind of healthy glow through the whole Grateful Dead scene. We're gearing up for the millennium. Interviewer : Oh, yeah? What's the plan? JGarcia : Well, our plan is to get through the millennium [laughs]. Apart from that, it's totally amorphous. Interviewer: Historically, turns of the century have been really intriguing times. Does that date hold any real significance for you? JGarcia : No, the date that holds significance for me is 2012. That's Terence McKenna's alpha moment, which is where the universe undergoes its most extraordinary transformations. He talks about these cycles, exponential cycles in which, in each epic, more happens than in all previous time. Like he talks about novelty, the insertion of novelty into the time track. His first example of novelty is, say, the appearance of life. So the universe goes along, brrrrmmmmm, then all of a sudden, life appears: bing! So that's something new. Then the next novelty is, like, vertebrates. Then the next novelty might be language -- that sort of thing. They're transformations of a huge kind, gains in consciousness. So he's got us, like, in the last forty-year cycle now -- it's running down, we're definitely tightening up -- and during this period, more will happen than has happened in all previous time. This is going to peak in 2012. He's got a specific date for it, too -- maybe December some time, I don't remember. But that moment, at the last 135th of a second or something like that, something like forty of these transformations will happen. Like immortality, you know [laughs]. It's an incredibly wonderful and totally transformational view of the universe. I love it, personally. It's my favorite ontoloy, my favorite endgame. It's much, much more visionary and sumptuous than . . . like, say, Christ is coming back [laughs]. "Oh, swell. That would be fun." McKenna's version is much more incredible. Interviewer : Are you concerned about what you'd leave behind? JGarcia : No. I'm hoping to leave a clean field -- nothing, not a thing. I'm hoping they burn it all with me. I don't feel like there's this body of work that must exist. I'd just as soon take it all with me. There's enough stuff -- who needs the clutter, you know? I'd rather have my immortality here while I'm alive. I don't care if it lasts beyond me at all. I'd just as soon it didn't. Interviewer ; Maybe it will just scorch in 2012. JGarcia : Yeah, I'm hoping that the transformations will make all that -- everything -- irrelevant. We'll all just go to the next universe as pure thought forms ..... [1993?]

I'm wondering if the powers that be will allow tapers set up their rigs so that those of us that can't make it can enjoy the music made at this show. It would even be sweeter if the guys let the soundboard recordings of all the different combinations that will play loose on the net. Or maybe even make the complete show available through Dead.net as a download. "When I die bury me deep, put two speakers at my feet, pair of ear phones on my head, and always play The Grateful Dead."

If only they would focus as much energy on product quality control and customer service as they do on politics. Seems like the real focus has been lost to the sands of time. Why don't they endorse a religion while they are at it? I hear the Pope is looking for contributions also....

The BJC where Monday's concert is released this statement at 8:30 this a.m.: (University Park, PA – Sunday, October 12, 2008) – Here is some updated information regarding the Change Rocks concert at the Bryce Jordan Center for Monday, October 13. Due to unforeseen circumstances, patrons attending the Change Rocks concert at the Bryce Jordan Center will not be able to park a day earlier. Parking will be available by midday on Monday, October 13. Please note that sleeping overnight in your car is not permitted and information on local camping is available at http://www.bellefontekoa.com/ BULL! The lots around the BJC are used for football parking and are currently empty, dry, were used two weeks ago for football, and will be used this Saturday for football as well. This concert is in a "red" state at a venue where monster trucks and country music sell out - is it any wonder they've changed their minds on the same day that people are already coming in to town? In this economy, people haven't planned on the added expense of the KOA or a hotel - and they're turning these Obama supporters away from the parking lots?! That is unfair...and I doubt it would happen if it was a McCain event. I think people need to fight this!

So many other roads...to ease our souls.. Our favorite Band could have found with out a doubt many other causes for a benefit show. There are so MANY good ways to help People, organizations, and institutions who can better use the funds needed for humanity's sake. (Nature preservation, animal rights, the homeless , the poor, human rights, hurricane relief,Education, Breast Cancer, all types of Cancer, Organ Donation education, hunger,...too many more to mention) How many can you all think of? Politics isn't a good cause in my opinion. Dark Star Orchestra is doing the right thing, by humbly not leaning to the LEFT or the RIGHT sides of politics. I hope this will be a good lesson to be learned. just encourage folks to register and vote.

I see a bunch of comments downing the Dead for supporting Obama. Hey, let's remember that everyone in America has a choice who and what they believe in and support. It is not anyone else's place to disagree with the other persons choice. Your freedom is you get to make your own choices too! Freedom is "if you want your choice to be respected then you have to let others choose freely and respect them for it, even if you don't agree. The Dead can do what they want and you can do what you want, but don't go on their site and hassle them, they are not hassling you. If they want to support Obama then let it be. Peace

i've been gettin' down on everybody for bickering back and forth and insulting each other instead of having meaningful discourse, but what are you trying to say doubledrumz? of course it's our place to disagree...that's the beauty of it , we all have different views and are allowed to express them taking respect into consideration of course, and yes both sides HAVE been hassling each other...read back for a few weeks........it's called a forum for a reason. thank you for your time.

In the chatroom during the Deadheads for Obama rally. When someone wasn't screaming RON PAUL every other post, there were comments like: there weren't any black people at Dead shows so there was no place in them supporting one for president. Classy. Jerry ain't here so quit speculating on what he would do or say. Nobody knows. Especially people who didn't know the man personally. Anyway, this is The Dead, not the Grateful Dead. There's one simple solution: don't go. Problem solved. I for one wish I was there. If Jerry took the peace and love with him, it allowed the trolls to jump on and insult anyone who don't agree with them. Including the band.
