The Telluride Bluegrass Fest has been a favorite for years. Unfortunately, with a growing family, haven't been able to catch it the last 5 years. The Folks Fest in Lyons, CO is an annual event we do as well, though. So much great music- in the Dead vein- comes through Denver that I'm pretty satisfied year-round with the good tunes.

This festival may not technically fit the category because for one its in the fall and second this is the first ever so I can't recommend it based on past experience. This is a festival scheduled for Oct. 9 & 10, the Saturday and Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. It is being held on the grounds of a small microbrewery in Nelson County, VA. I hear its very near Wintergreen Resort. This is a very beautiful area in the Blue Ridge mountains. The festival headliners are the Infamous Stringdusters. Others on the bill are Railroad Earth, the Tony Rice Unit, Toubab Krewe, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge (Larry has done some touring with Keller Williams) and Old School Freight Train, an excellent progressive bluegrass band from the Charlottesville, VA area. David Grisman has produced one of their CDs and I think they have toured with him. There are numerous other bands as well. I bought my tickets today and they were a very reasonable $54 for a 2 day pass with camping. I think that increases to $64 in about a week. Still a quite reasonable price! I'm looking forward to this one as I know the area is beautiful, they're featuring beers from several very good microbreweries in central VA and they have some excellent bands! Guess it could be a disappointment, but I doubt it! If you want more info I think the website is thefesty.com.

I thought I would post here and see what happens... I haven't been to this festival since the 90s but it still ranks up there as one of my favorites. Just haven't been able to get back there yet. Anyone interested in traveling to England in August 2011? If so, find me... ~Andie (ChromeDivaStyle@aol.com) ~Honest to the point of recklessness~ ~~~ Andie is Althea~~~

Grateful Garcia Gathering 2011 will be held on Aug 4th - Aug 7th at Camp NCN (formerly Jamboree Campground) in Black River Falls Wisconsin. The Grateful Garcia Gathering is now in its 8th year! Friends and fans come from all around to dance and see to some of the best jambands in the midwest honoring and paying tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band/Grateful Dead's guitarist Jerry Garcia. Be sure to make your vacation plans now to take off work, because we lots of excitement planned for all! YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS! Melvin Seals is best known for his long friendship and musical partnership with cultural icon and guitarist Jerry Garcia and the smile of his that lights up the room. Melvin spun his B-3 magic with the Jerry Garcia Band for 18 years and in doing so helped pioneer and define what has now become "Jam Band Music". Just got back from Bonnaroo. I have been lucky enough to make 9 of the first 10 (couldn't stomach 2 nights of WSP in 2005) and hands down, this is the fest of all fests. My Morning Jacket's friday night set simply obliterated the rest of what was an amazing weekend of music. Saw Buffalo Springfield Saturday night and wow, they brought it. A relevant tour and set- very nice! J.T. Gossard http://thehallucinogenicbible.blogspot.com/

Terrapin Hill Harvest Festival is by far my fav! Very laid back and family friendly. It has been going on for so many years that the surrounding area is very welcoming and friendly. The energy is pure and addictive. They have a smaller one in June called Family Reunion. It is a lot smaller with mostly local bands. Also worth catching! one of the people involved in the crime at the wakarusa festival has posted on this site,(this very BBS), wakarusa.com, (a now closed)youtube & jambase using the nickname "ooplik". if you ever feel like assisting in identifying that individual for said attempted murder, feel free to do so.--repeated requests that wakarusa provide info from its in house BBS that may help identify the perpetrator hiding behind that particular nickname, to the relevant jurisdiction have been met with outright refusal.

The grateful sled is doing highway clean up then we all head to the barn for music and food.

My favorite summer music festival in recent years has been the Ojai festival in southern California. They really do some interesting stuff. This year there are intimate sunrise concerts on beautiful Ojai hillsides and late night concerts of John Cage music. Also, matinee and evening concerts on saturday and sunday. Highly recommended!
