Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have some Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1979 and 1987
Our first selection is from the excellent show on 10/25/73 in Madison, WI, where we have the end of the show, featuring Weather Report Suite, GDTRFB>One More Saturday Night, Uncle John's Band. This was the Dead's second appearance in Madison in 1973, and both shows are excellent.
Next is music from 5/4/79 in Hampton, VA, a show notable for two reasons: it was the Dead's first ever appearance at the Hampton Coliseum, and it was Brent Mydland's third show as a member of the Grateful Dead, after 4/22/79 and 5/3/79. From the second set we have Estimated Prophet>Eyes Of The World. This show was released on vinyl last month as part of Record Store Day. Don't forget, please support your local independent record store!
Our last selection this week of the fourth night of a five night run at Madison Square Garden in 1987, and continues out Madison-themed week here at the Tapers' Section (President James Madison was born in Virginia…). From the start of the first set we have Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo, It's All Over Now, High Time, Mexicali Blues>Big River, When Push Comes To Shove from 9/19/87. The previous night is widely considered one of the best shows of 1987, and the energy continues on to the night.
Be sure to join us here next week for more tunes from the vault.
