Welcome back to our weekly listen to some archival Grateful Dead recordings drawn from the Dead's vault. This week we've got music from 1972, 1987 and 1991.
Our first stop this week is music recorded at the last show of the first leg of the Dead's fall tour of 1972, on 10/2/72 in Springfield, MA, where we have the start of the first set featuring Cold Rain and Snow, Mexicali Blues, Tennessee Jed, Beat It On Down The Line, Bird Song. The head of Cold Rain is missing from the master reels. I may be mistaken, and likely am, but I seem to recall that this was our good friend Dennis McNally's first Grateful Dead show.
Next up is music from 6/13/87 in Ventura, CA, just south of Santa Barbara, at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. From this show we have the end of the second set, featuring The Other One>Morning Dew>Sugar Magnolia.
Lastly this week is the start of the second set of the excellent show on 6/22/91 at Soldier Field in Chicago, the Dead's first appearance at Soldier Field, featuring Foolish Heart > Looks Like Rain > Crazy Fingers> Dark Star > Playing In The Band > Terrapin Station> Jam.
Be sure to stop in next week for more music from the vault.
