Grateful Dead Musikhalle 4/29/72 1st set (I cheated again ...) Coleman Hawkins "1929-1937" 4/28/37 (Honeysuckle Rose w/ a taste of Django even) Bennie Green "Soul Stirrin'" 4/28/58 ballsy Lee Morgan "Leeway" 4/28/60 I guess I could force myself to listen to Fillmore East, 4/28/71 with a nice NRPS set - hmmmm ... "From day to day, just lettin' it ride. You get so far away from how it feels inside. You can't let go, 'cause you're afraid to fall. But the day may come when you can't feel at all."

Generally those freebie record company compilation cds are very hit-and-miss -- stuff you love jammed up against stuff you hate, at least in my experience. But...this time through I grabbed a New West Records collection of NPR "World Cafe" live selections, and with a couple of a handfuls of my favorites (Buddy Miller, Steve Earle, Old 97's, Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell, The Flatlanders, Tom Morello, Mark Olson & Gary Louris, and more), it was hard to go wrong. I might even give this one a second spin.. Mamas and Grandmamas love you 'Cause that's all they know how to do But you never planned on those bombs in the sand Or sleeping in your dress blues. -Jason Isbell

Just caught Umphrey's McGee set at Bonnaroo. I can't be the only fan here! also checked out Andrew Bird and the Hands of Glory. I've been a fan of his for a long time, but never seen him "live." Just an incredible musician. Another edit: Nikhil Banerjee playing sitar.

English Oceans This is becoming my favorite Truckers album, love the more balanced split between Hood songs and Cooley songs, including Cooley singing a Hood song. Plus there's this Space kind of thing to close out the album, very unexpected! Haven't posted here in a very long time, nice to see Mr Lard is still carrying the torch!

Today would have been dad's 86th - Coltrane's "Standard Coltrane", "Stardust" and "Bahia" 7/11/58. Fave tune of the nine from this session - "Something I Dreamed Last Night".Roland Kirk "Kirk's Works" Jack McDuff on B3.r 7/11/61 John Patton "Blue John" Similar vein as RRK. 7/11/63 Garcia Saunders discs 3 & 4 from Keystone mini-box. "Like a road" 7/11/73 Marshall Tucker "Where We All Belong" live stuff 7/11/74 Lucinda Williams "Car Wheels" companion live disc 7/11/98 jumped the gun on 7/11/69 - it's been a '69 Summer. Please, Dave, make the 11th bonus disc worthy!
