I witnessed a ture patriot tonight, at 6:15 CMT on msnbc. He asked real questions, of both sides of this decision. He was factual, pointed and wanted a straight answer to a straight question. he pressed for it, he didn't take just an answer, he wanted an answer to the question that was asked. He did this at great peril to his "safety net". He persisted and asked the questions to get answers for all of us. Before the thought of "he must be democrat!", actually he was a lifelong republican, can't tell that about his show, because he is a true journalist and is consumed by the truth and the quest thereof.Don't let the truth off the hook, that was the message. It was real. It was powerful. It was such a search for the truth, for all of our behalf's that I believe I saw a true patriot. Who was this? Search this one out. Peace,pk

that Obama getting elected is more or less like the Berlin Wall coming down in terms of a classic photo op triumph over the forces of darkness. However, as we have seen, the fall of the Wall didn't bring paradise to Germany and it's not going to miraculously make our problems go away either. What it might do is give us a better shot at fixing them, and certainly of getting our own lives back free of surveillance, intimidation, and infringement of our liberties.

To Greg SC & Johnman - don't sweat it so much. I understand some worry - it's all different. But read: http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/taxes/Factsheet_Tax_Plan_FINAL.pdf My guess is things won't be exact, but we should all hold EVERY politician accountable. Finally - the whole socialism thing...get the @#(*$& over it. The lousy (but necessary) bailout that passed is more socialist than any program Obama wants to start. He is not for National Health Care (that was Hillary, for those paying attention). Actually, I am going to cautiously, and I mean cautiously, sit back and watch to see what this guy is up to. Will he surprise me and be a centrist leader? Well, he might, but my gut tells me the weird stuff will begin as soon as it looks like we are beginning to come out of this economy. Until the economy begins to perk, though, I think he will be careful not to cause it to worsen. Because now it is his, and his alone. The buck stops with the president. We found that out with Bush. In other words, the Dems had the house and senate the last 2 years, but all we kept hearing was "eight years of Bush," when in reality it was 6 years of Repubs, 2 years of Dems. So from this point on I do not want to hear any nonsense about George Bush, when it is Obama, and only Obama. Remember the Buck stops with the guy on top. So, how has Obama done the last two days? Well he drove the stock market down 10% for starters; it is, however, up a little today. In the long run we will see how businesses like it with this guy at the top. Greg SC

"Well he drove the stock market down 10% for starters".... Yeah, he marched right in there and said, "STOP BUYING NOW!" The market fluctuations are a result of a whole lotta stuff, not just the choice of president. Come on. Just because Bush got blamed for a lot of stuff, don't go aimlessly swinging. The economy is in the crapper LARGELY because of the Iraq War spenditure - as well as all the crap that the lovely Mr. Greenspan ol' Slick Willie left lingering around and W and his crew neglected to repair. It's a combined effort. I think things JUST MAY turn around when we stop spending 23gazillion dollars a minute in Iraq. Just my opinion.... ~ Pappy www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

Remember the Current Occupant has 73 more days to spend in Washington, D.C. After President-elect Obama moves into the White House, the Texas Tumblweed can return to lassoing armadillos. Meanwhile, take advantage of good buying opportunities in the market: Sirius, GE, Ford, GM, PG. We all should be praying that no serious environmental attacks are waged upon our forests, coastlines and arctic ecosystems.

hey Pap the 23 gazillion keeps me in beans and bullets, ha ha. yea this war deal is getting a little long I've been directly involved since 01.What year is it? Anyway seems like the markets all over the world are taken a dump, guess there all related. I think the Iraq Afghan spenditure is around 420 gazillion. And don't really think the people of these nations give a shit they suck off us as much as they can. Was reading some stuff in Stars and Stripes about how much the military, all brances spends on fuel to keep this deal going. i can't remember the exact numbers but it was in the bazillions, in a country with huge oil reserves who don't fund any of their own stuff. Thought wars would boost an economy, think that it did for awhile but now were at a stablization period in Iraq and is costing us a shit load and the people were helping don't chip in or give a flying f. We'll all see in a year or so when Iraq takes full control of there country it will turn back to a dictatorship and remain the asshole of the world. Ted. believe he'll be going back to do some goat roping too.

Pappy, Just wanted to give you a taste of the silliness we've heard from Obama during this past year. You'd think that George Bush ran the House, Senate, and Oval Office the way he was blamed for everything. But hey, I guess the buck stops with the guy on top. So since we heard how George Bush caused the stock market to crash, then we can assume that the market balked at the Obama win. Hey, fair is fair. Greg SC

I happen to love all that social stuff. I go to the church of the public library. I love social programs (Public Health has been there for me), public parks and beaches. I love these public roads I drive around on and public buildings - museums, aquariums, the public squares. Kids need public places to grow. It's one world now. And it has been since airtravel and tv blew open those doors. I think a lot of people all over the world think we need a new take on things. Let's get eachother's basic needs met. We aren't dancin' in the street for nothing. We're dancin in the street 'cause it's good.

for the first time since 1964. We are one of the two states (Maine is the other) that will split their electoral college votes. Nebraskas's split is based on who wins in each of NE's 3 congressional districts. But our votes did count on the electoral college distribution, even though McCain took the state. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

I don't get the split the electoral vote thing?? If McCaine took the state, what was the split? just curious. as to the other states that went red, some folks just listen to / believe sound bites / mis-information / bull shit. there was some ignoramus on the radio, saying he wouldn't vote for Obama because his middle name was "Hussein" on the ABC news, I think it was, an older, crew cut white guy, who believed the Dems are 'socialism'

Maine and Nebraska. I don't know how Maine does it. In Nebr the winner of the total popular vote gets 2 of the 5 electoral votes right away. Then the rest of those votes are awarded by who wins in each of our 3 congressional districts. Those 3 discricts are Lincoln (and surrounding area), Omaha (and surrounding area), and then the rest of rural Nebraka. So Obama won the Omaha area so he got 1 electoral college vote, and he was ahead in the Lincoln area but didn't prevail so McCain got 1 electoral vote, and then rural NE was overwhelminly McCain, so he then he got another vote. Nebraska's electoral vote total is McCain 4 and Obama 1. We almost carried the day in Lincoln for Obama and that would have been another vote, but we didn't quite make it. I am opposed to the electoral college but I believe that if the votes are split, then the process gets this republic a little closer to a democracy. But not close enough for me. Abolish the electoral college and popular vote should win the Presidency. Nebraska lesson and pontificating complete (for now). ;o} The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

As most of you know, Jim Martin is in a smear fest runoff election down here in Georgia. If Obama voters truly want change, we need to vote for Jim Martin for US Senate to give Barack the tools he needs to get things done. The GOP is pouring everthing they have into the state because they are scared to death that we will turn Georgia blue again. In fact McCain himself was in town last Thursday campaigning with Chambliss. I am attending the Bill Clinton/ Jim Martin event at Clark Atlanta University tomorrow. I am worried that after 6 years of Saxby Chambliss voting with W 90% of the time, voting against children's health care, wasting time making English the State's official language, etc, etc, we are going to have a tough time getting out the vote for a runoff. Any possitive vibes are apprectiated. http://www.martinforsenate.com/ Peace - David

Can I Be A Deadhead and Still Think Big Government is Bad? I was thinking back to the not-so halcyon days of my youth. I don't remember my older hippy friends being pro-government. It was more a movement of mutual support, helping each other in small communes and getting back to a less-is-more mentality (if we ever really 'had' that). Now that I'm a hard working special education teacher, can I still be a Deadhead and not necessarily believe in and trust the Democratic party or the Obama presidency until I see actual decisions made, and acknowlegement of the responsibility for the good and bad results? I just don't see the answer to what ails us in politics, Democrat or Republican. You guys inclusive of people like me, too? Drewster58 "The Xeric Xenophile"

I find it a bit hard to fathom that folks who dance to the lyrics "spinning a set the stars through which the tattered tales of axis roll about the waxen wind of never set to motion in the unbecoming round about the reason hardly matters nor the wise through which the stars were set in spin" find my simple little post too obtuse to interpret in light of emerging events on a thread about politricks. I apologize for being too obtuse. Let me rephrase it - Øbama, The Øne chosen by (I'm guesstimating) more than 95% of the posters on this thread, is turning out to be a crooked dealer, surrounded by crooked dealers, whose crookedness was ignored and even denied by an obsequious press. They will now be given carte blanche to dismantle the foundations of this nation - economic foundations, spiritual foundations, and cultural foundations - the only nation on earth that could provide the economic, spiritual and cultural bubble required to spawn The Grateful Dead. I am sorry that the remaining members of the Grateful Dead saw fit to get involved. Is that clearer? Again, I apologize for being obtuse. Politics is a dirty business; not a nice, kind or positive business. If the reality of that is too hard too handle, than this web site may not have been the place to introduce a realm that engenders characters like Øbama and McCain. As the layers of the Øbama Ønion are peeled away, we may all be just a wee bit sorry The Boys played a fundraiser for The Øne. Why don't you spit out what you are insinuating? If you really have a point to prove tell us what it is. You are posting vagueness and innuendo because whatever your accusations are, (which we don't even know) apppear to have no factual basis at this time to back them up. This is an old propaganda trick. Create unrest, uneasiness, discontent, distrust without facts to back what you say. I call your bluff. Prove it.
