Can I talk about the novel I just published?? Available on Amazon.com? Called "The Hallucinogenic Bible". Based on years following the Dead around the country, being harassed by cops, sleeping in rest areas, selling sodas and grilled cheese, arguing with friends about the religious implications of the Dead? Is this the kind of thing I can brag about?? I hope so..... "The Hallucinogenic Bible" by J.T. Gossard

child of two deadheads needs some guidance
I'm not sure if I'm asking this in the right forum area, but I hope so...Both of my parents have been life-long Deadheads. They started going to shows together in the mid-70's, and the music didn't stop until their divorce. My dad was Tim Davie, not sure if his name will ring a bell for anyone. He had a lot of friends, met a lot of awesome people, and always loved to have a good time. He worked his @$$ off every single day of my life to support his family. He passed away suddenly on Saturday February 12- less than a week ago. He was only 54. My younger brother and I are making arrangements for his memorial service. We have decided to create a soundtrack for him- and also for us. We were able to find a couple of songs that remind us of him. But even though we both grew up dancing around barefoot to the Dead, we are both at a complete loss for GD songs for the soundtrack. Can anyone suggest any GD songs that would be a good addition to Dad's soundtrack? Thanks so much for any suggestions <3

http://www.dredly.com It's a comedy story online about 2 Deadheads who go on a quest to rid the world of evil and find comfortable footwear... But mainly to find comfortable footwear. Also, for those of you who aren't too fond of Mr Bush, my satirical podcast WhackMyBush is still available on iTunes. Pigeons work in pairs!

After a long education in music, playing in my own band, and much other work in music (including building a demo sound system that was chosen for the Rolling Stones Bridges to Babylon tour), I wound up working as the tour manager for one of my all time favorite bands, Canned Heat. I saw them in 1970 when I was a young pup, and they left a visceral impression on my young mind. They put on a rollicking show, and the Bear and the Blind Owl were fascinating characters to behold. This was the original line-up, and was shortly before Alan Wilson left this earthly coil. When the opportunity to work with them appeared many years later, I jumped at the chance. I am proud to say that I remain a member of the Canned Heat extended family. When I was at odds in Los Angeles, their drummer Fito de la Parra had me move into his house for awhile. Their is a lyric in the song Goin' Up the Country that goes like this: "Cuz you've got a home man, as long as I've got mine." Fito lived up to those words, and it is a gesture that I will never forget. He's a bro, and I love him for real. I'll leave this off with our motto: "Don't forget to boogie!!!" hostage flamingo

Our little girl recently received a grant for a special speech device to help her communicate. It is a laptop sort of machine with touch icons that can be made into sentences that will speak in a childs voice. It is lightweight and drop-down-the-stairs durable but drop-your-jaw expensive coming in at close to 10k. We are so inspired and excited at the depth and range this machine offers. We appreciate the work everyone at the hospital and school have done to get this grant for Haley and the opportunity brings for her. We have a very cool network of people. We already had one other girl but wanted another child. We wanted a brother or sister and as '01 approached thought it would be cool to have a baby in 2001 like 2001 A Space Odyssey. Haley didn't show up until '02. That was alright cuz' she was well worth waiting for. When she came to us, we were thrilled and elated. Mama had come down with the Lyme disease mid-term. She got pretty sick and as you might imagine and we were very worried. Haley was born seemingly healthy and happy though and her eyes had beautiful sparkles. We thought she was just a quiet baby because she made very few sounds until well after 1 year. She would crawl over to the family photo albums and point at different pictures of people and activities. Her coordination was a bit off and she was a little bit different...she could hear an airplane, motorcycle or a train long before anyone noticed the sound. Sirens were out of the question. The catch all label of "delayed" was all they could come up with as the guru's at the top of the specialist chain said she was probably a 1 in 20 like her in the world. Just a special unique condition but a very amazing sweet smiling girl. Soon after that, our journey to speech began. They call it apraxia of speech. We have worked hard and so has Haley with her SLP's the last few years and we just had a great 6 year birthday party for her. We have met many wonderful Speech Language Pathologists, teachers, other parents of "delayed" and autistic children and have been working with sign, gestures, pictures and interpretation. The theory is that the wiring is just not quite connected but through ongoing therapy and different forms of communication including musical instrments, computers , books and the "Talker", we will get there and she will eventually speak. Haley was able to have the opportunity to use one of two "Talker's" sent to the big city Children's Hospital as loaner grants in lieu of obtaining funding from insurance. They felt that Haley has a good chance of learning how to use it and having it help her connect the wires so she will eventually speak. We will hopefully get a permanent "Talker" once our insurance company approves her case. It looks good...we have letters from Dr.'s, specialists, SLP's, teachers, all in for review and we are very hopeful. I wish I could tell you how it feels to hear her say "My name is Haley, I am six years old and I have two cats and a fish." "What is your name?" "Let's play!" even though it is a voice that comes out of a machine...it's coming tfrom her. It is amazing and she is smiling as she now starts to be able to tell her story. This little girl is the most amazing person I have ever met. She is full of life and amazing spirit that fills the room with creative wonder, expression and laughter. Now, her voice is coming through the "Talker" and we have a lot of thigs to talk about. I can hear her voice... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Walk into splintered sunlight Inch your way through dead dreams to another land" Robert Hunter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ray, a drop of golden sun"

Jammin' for Johnman! Strike up the band light the candle and start the party! Saint Stephen Lyrics: Robert Hunter Music: Jerry Garcia/Phil Lesh Saint Stephen with a rose In and out of the garden he goes Country garland in the wind and the rain Wherever he goes the people all complain Stephen prosper in his time Well he may, and he may decline Did it matter, does it now? Stephen would answer if he only knew how Wishing well with a golden bell Bucket hanging clear to hell Hell half way twixt now and then Stephen fill it up and lower down, and lower down again Lady finger, dipped in moonlight Writing "What for?" across the morning sky Sunlight splatters dawn with answers Darkness shrugs and bids the day goodbye Speeding arrow, sharp and narrow What a lot of fleeting matters you have spurned Several seasons with their treasons Wrap the babe in scarlet colours, call it your own Did he doubt or did he try? Answers a-plenty in the by and by Talk about your plenty, talk about your ills One man gathers what another man spills Saint Stephen will remain All he's lost he shall regain Seashore washed by the suds and the foam Been here so long he's got to calling it home Fortune comes a-crawling, Calliope woman Spinning that curious sense of your own Can you answer? Yes I can But what would be the answer to the answer man? High green chilly winds and windy vines in loops Around the twined shafts of lavender They're crawling to the sun Underfoot the ground is patched With climbing arms of ivy wrapped Around the manzanita stark and shiny in the breeze Wonder who will water all the children of the garden When they sigh about the barren lack Of rain and droop so hungry 'neath the sky William Tell has stretched his bow Till it won't stretch no furthermore And/or it will require a change that hasn't come before and many more... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Walk into splintered sunlight Inch your way through dead dreams to another land" Robert Hunter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Ray, a drop of golden sun"
