it is listed in the moderation queue, but when I click it there is no image there, and also no file. This, shall we say, happens a lot, so if we can figure out what does and doesn't work that would be useful.

    well, like I say
uploading 300 dpi is a waste because the Web can only display 72 dpi and the software is almost certain to choke on the hi-res, but whatever.

    RE: Submitting a Fan Photo
Looking to upload via the Submit content under user name on the left, which I have not tried to do yet, not post in a message. Dunno if there is any difference but I could see allowing less in a regular forum post as opposed to a "gallery". On the first page of the Community link at the top left I found, "File size limit is 1.2m. (Photo may take between 1-12hrs to appear on the site.)" At the Submit Fan Photo page it shouts (LOL), "ALL PHOTOS ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL AND WILL NOT BE "LIVE" IMMEDIATELY. IT CAN TAKE BETWEEN 1-24 HOURS TO APPEAR." so I figured a human inspects each one for several reasons. Also on the Submit Fan Photo page it has, "Upload your JPG, GIF, or PNG file here!" underneath the field with the browse button. I could see not wanting any uncompressed .tif or .tga files. Yeah I agree jpegs are the best for all around usage. I did some image info viewing from the Community link>Fan Photos. I sampled from Tickets, Concert and Festivals. I tried some I thought might be older and recent uploads. One labeled Further Tour 2010 has to be pretty recent, right? :) All the ones I checked were 400 pixels high, varying widths (600, 533, 419, 181, ...) and 300 dpi when saved and opened in a simple photo program. I wonder if there is an automated process before or after approval to make them all 400 pixels high? There was some other location I found max file and pixel size along with lots of other kinds of info, hence why I thought I could find it fairly easily again, but it was after continuously surfing the site for an hour or 3 so info retention was certainly diminished. I don't recall anything about file part but I want to say I saw a little over 1000 pixels as the max for one of the dimensions. I scanned it in at 300 dpi, will leave it at that, resize it down to 400 pixels high from 586 and it is only 68 KB so that should not be a problem. I'll give it a go here shortly and we shall see what happens.

the Fan Pix upload is quite temperamental and your problem may well have nothing to do with your image per se. That said, the Web can only display 72 dpi, so uploading hi-res is asking for trouble. I would recommend keeping the image no more than about 400 pixels wide at 72 dpi, just because bigger than that starts doing weird things to the page layouts. Jpg is the most reliable format to use, although in theory gif and bmp work also. Tif definitely does not. Also, all pix go into a moderation queue where I look at 'em and mostly turn 'em loose. About half the time the uploads contain no image so there's nothing for me to turn loose (see above). Still, this info should help you avoid some of the known trouble vectors. Thanks! (And yeah, one of the reasons the uploads go to moderation is that we occasionally get spammers or others uploading porn and the like and that is so not happening here.)

    Submitting a Fan Photo
Last week I stumbled across technical info about uploading photos and now I can not find it. FAQ & HELP links at the bottom of the page are about the store. When I do a search I get many results but unfortunately clicking on a result that is in the forum goes to the first page of that topic instead of the post with the info returned in the search :( Since it seemed I came across the info fairly easy I thought I could find it again fairly easily so I did not note the info but no such luck. When one goes to submit content I would think info/restrictions would be listed there but I did not see anything. It could be somewhere obvious that I overlooked but right now I am out of time to search and this appears to be the place to ask. My questions are: 1. What is the max file size to upload a photo? 2. What is the max size in pixels? Thanks

Wendy - I can't give you an answer, but I can tell you it's being discussed. I personally agree with you, that the most recent should be on top. I can also tell you that's it going to be one way or the other - can't have it both ways.

If I could find my own posts so I can keep up with those threads I've entered. I can't remember where I was. Marye - something like the "check messages" or "Message center". Forgive me if you already talked about this someplace and its been addressed and I'm sure if you could you would. Like for this question, I suspose I am going to have write down where I asked it so I can check for the answer. and BTW, just where am I? Thanks, Rose

Hey now, Rose-- if you go to your own profile page (click My Account on the left there) you'll see a section on the right of that page called User's Recent Posts, which is a partial solution to the problem you're talking about. However, partial is the operative term, as my Recent Posts seem to reflect the reality of several days ago. A more complete solution would be a good thing, and I'll pass that along. (I'll also email this to you so you don't have to slog through so much). As for the issue of being taken straight to new-to-you posts, let's just say that in my morning report to the higher-ups I said that that issue and the fact of responses appearing out of chronological order are officially at the top of the Pain Point list. So the tech team is aware of the problem and I fervently hope we have a solution soon. Thank you for your kind patience...

Love the look of new site.... but the post fonts and spacing is so large that it is hard to read with all the scrolling one needs to do... makes my eyes hurt!! Please reduce the size so you get 4 or 5 posts visible at least at a time.. right now it is 1 or 2 at most... thanks. drmz DrmzSpace Radio podcasts available at: slapcast.com/users/drmzspace tasty audio treats for the mind...

With regard to the streams and many other features, there are many enhancements in the queue and I don't know which are likely to come first. Hence if streams are a big issue to you, please weigh in using the fine Feedback link at the bottom of the page. With regard to the Store, let's just say they're coping with a few issues and we're working with them to establish a better communication channel. My personal advice, if you don't NEED to order something right this minute, you might give it a week for the dust to settle a bit. If you're already having issues, and you've emailed customerservice@deadnetstore.com already and not heard back, send me or izzie the details and we'll get it to someone who can help. Thanks and sorry for all the trouble.

A couple questions -- on main Forum page, only "The Scene" subtopics are listed. how come? when going to a specific topic and clicking on "# new" you go to the first post, not the newest one. can/will this be changed?

1. Re The Scene, the short answer is that the subtopics are actually Forums (don't ask) because we were still getting the hang of some tools. This actually reflects a layer of complexity we don't need, but hey, a learning experience. 2. We sure hope so. It is reported early and often, and on the to-do list.

Yes, but that shows ALL recent posts..I'm talking about this.. "Hey now, Rose-- if you go to your own profile page (click My Account on the left there) you'll see a section on the right of that page called User's Recent Posts, which is a partial solution to the problem you're talking about. However, partial is the operative term, as my Recent Posts seem to reflect the reality of several days ago" which was marye's answer to Rose's question about how to get back where you left off instead of having to scroll through the entire history (or click "last" and then scroll back) of a folder to get to things you haven't read yet. I'm not seeing "User's Recent Posts" on my profile or anyone else's. I did see it one time, on one profile, and haven't seen it since.

Wendy - thanks for clearing that up for me and sorry for not getting it the first time! I have it on both of my accounts - it's under the Shows Attended section there on the right. Can anyone else let me know if they don't have that feature? It doesn't work great, and takes me back to where I'd last posted in a few forums, but that's something at least. I like using the All Recent Posts and sorting by Forum to see what is new for me that way. and Mindbender - yeah, for now. Editing was a concern for the changing-history thing, and because it was hooked in the code with Reply and that was behind the weird chronology of posts issue that folks were asking about. It is being looked at and worked on though to see if the magic-fingered folks can find a way to do 30-minute editing or something without it messing anything else up. Bottom Line: it's a software thing.

I swear, I'm seeing a perfectly normal User's Recent Posts on my profile too. Every bit as ill-behaved as izzie says, but there. Perhaps an obscure bug is involved here. If the problem persists, please let us know (also what browser you're using and anything else you can think of that might be relevant) and we'll pass it to the wizards for examination...

Nope.. it's definitely not on mine. I'm using the ATT/Yahoo browser. Yesterday I looked at the profile of someone who'd just introduced themselves and under their "website" was "N/A" (underlined) which I clicked, and THAT took me to 'user's recent posts'. But it didn't show up on the front page of their profile. AIl that's on mine is 'shows attended', the "more" button just displays more shows. Just for kicks I just tried putting "n/a" on the website space in my profile, of course it woudn't let me do that, it highlighted it red and didn't take. lol... the location map on my profile puts me on the equator just off the coast of Camaroon. And I thought I was in California all this time.

The system obviously knows there are posts that I have not viewed yet in some topics under "All recent posts" , and none in others.... Can't it go directly to the new ones instead of the very beginning of every discussion? And after you post a message, must it go back to day one of the discussion instead of just back to the post you just made? Just wondering.... Having to scroll though the enitire history of a topic to view new posts could get quite cumbersome as the history grows.

Then, you could close your eyes and scramble your password so that you can't come back in. That would effectively eliminate your presense here, if that's really what you want to do. In the mean time, if there's something we can do to make your stay here more pleasant, please let us know. I have been listening to the show at the Fillmore East on May 15th.1970. There are 2 versions available for streaming but the set lists are very different. The Dead.net web site does not list any set list at all. So what is the deal, Who's right, Archive.org or is the set list from wolfgangs vault correct. Warf Rat 99
