    My First Show
Was attending college in Vermillion SD and friends were taking a road trip to see the Dead... I jumped on board and life has never been the same since.... for the best! Firsts will always hold a sentimental place in my heart.

During Tom Thumb Phil replaced "cops" with "security" in the verse "cops don't need you and expect the same" Not a police officer in sight all three nights...not that anyone was doing anything wrong or anything...just comfortable.

Alpine Valley was a trip in itself back in the early 80"s. We made it a regular trip each summer that they played there. This was the first show for my wife and our first one together.

This was my favorite venue!! Camping on site. Good sound. During the 1988 run, I lost my virginity during Blackbird in my tent outside the show walls. The song echoed through the valley and into my soul. God bless Alpine.I miss you.

Couldn't at first remember what year. But then remembered we saw Dylan on his own the first night we were there. Terrible tree drought that year. Also was one of the first people parked there, sisters from MN left for hotdogs never to be seen again. Heard people could'nt get to shows due to traffic. Parking lot like hell, no shade, no water, couldn't leave. Inside - like heaven green grass, steak on the grill. When we were exiting Theatre, everyone was mooing! Cool introduction to the midwest.

It's crazy to think you can trace back in time to the moment your life may changed forever. I was 17 and didn't know what to expect. When the 1st note of Iko hit and everybody started dancing and singing, i was in complete shock. It seems like a dream now. This night changed me , not that the music was any better that other nights...it was my seeing the light. I called my mom and told her i was going to stay for the next show. She was pissed off! I stayed anyway. Thank you so much Jerry and the boys

We heard about the Grateful Dead and after hangin with Steve, an old hippie from Lansing, MI, My brother and I took off to find this Alpine Valley Music Theater. We arrived a day early but there were people starting to populate the lot, so we went in. While chillin in the back of my old pickup truck doin bongs we heard what we thought was the best Dylan Disk yet. Well ended up to be Dylan live, what stoners we were. We road out the night there and woke up the next day to the coolest colored buses and the wildest and most friendliest people on the earth, the DEAD HEADS. I found home. Thanks Jerry, Bobby and the boys for a life changing experience.

I used to live about 40 miles from Alpine. The acoustics there are excellent. The 1989 shows were 5 star shows. The camping at Whitewater lake is really hip. If you ever make it that way look into camping at Whitewater lake. I was fortunate to also see The Who, The Stones, and The Jerry Garcia Band at Alpine. Every show was awesome and the sound was mind blowing! Hats off to Alpine!

This show litterally changed my life. Prior to the show I was hangin out at a bar in New Orleans when I met some rainbow family who took me to the Rainbow Family mine in Mt. Ida, Ak. Before that I was hangin with Nazi Skinheads. In Mt. Ida, everyone asked if I was a skinhead and I would deny it. These people had something I wanted. Well they told me about the dead shows in Alpine, so I hitched up there and got to townn thre days before the shows. I met a couple of guys (Diver Dan and Rainbow Trout) we were the only heads in town when we got there. Those were three wild days, this one guy would mess with us everyday, then the first day of the shows I seen him, and he's like, "peace bro, I found the answer". Wow, here I was, a skinhead who got shot in a driveby five months earlier, now turned dead-head. That show changed and probably saved my life. Thanks, Richard (aka Bullet, aka Tripster)
