This was my penultimate GOGD show just the following night to go. I had seen all the shows of the Europe tour up until then having a good time, but it was nice to be back in England and Commuting to the show, sleeping in my own bed not a hotel,Hostal, Train or Train station. Again not the best DEad show, i enjoyed Scarlet > Fire and of course Werewolves I had been telling everyone they would play Werewolves on Halloween in London and nobody believed me, nice to be proved right Bob W - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Spanish Jam

It was a festive night. They don't really "do" Halloween in England but there were still alot of fans in costume that night. The band was a bit more on this second night and having fun. There was a really nice pre drums sequence of Scarlet>Fire>Truckin>He's Gone. It was smokin' The werewolves was a given. Jerry was starting to get sick and his voice was almost blown. He still sang it though, and everyone danced like crazy.

The second of my birthday shows, and the second show in England during my eight years of living there - what a treat to enjoy the boys from my birth home in my adopted home!!

Almost forgot - thanks once again (all these years later) to Jake for the SBD tape he gifted me with as a birthday present - I still have it!

This was a strange night for me. It was my girlfriend at that times birthday and she hadn't been particularly keen to go to the show. Looking back on it I remember that it felt like a very long experience. The entire audience howled for the encore instead of applauding and we got Werewolves of London which went down like a storm. Bruce had a little pumpkin lantern on his piano if I remember rightly. Oh yeah – There was this guy in front of me who had a little rubber skeleton which he held in his hand and danced with for the entire second set. I guess it expressed the "Feel at home and do what feels good vibe” which is so tangible at Grateful Dead shows. Nice one dude - whoever you were! It may sound insignificant, but you really inspired me to be myself and do my thang at future gigs. Thank you!

This was the night I started to embark on my own, long strange trip. Before attending this show I'd dismissed (without, I'm ashamed to say, hearing much) the Dead as a bunch of shambolic old hippies. A friend of mine was reviewing the show for one of the London papers and asked me if I'd like to come along. What a night! I appreciate now that this was NOT one of the Dead's best shows by any measure, but it remains one of my top five gigs of all time (and I've been to around 3,000 since 1977). The Help>Slip>Franklin and Begonias>Fire>Truckin'>Gone sequences were both sublime and despite Jerry's voice being shot, I thought the rest of the band were ace, great choice of songs too; though I was a bit disappointed I never got to hear them do China Cat>Rider or Dark Star (retrospective faves). The best thing for me though was the atmosphere and my introduction to the Dead community. It was the biggest and best party I'd ever been to. I will never forget: the guy in the silver top hat who gave, completely unprompted, me a spliff and a beer, and who returned an hour later to give me a salt beef sandwich; the tapers and their incredible equipment, and the forest of mikes on poles near the sound desk; the guy who was seeing the band for the 651st time; talking, on the way home, to the Deadheads from the Phil Zone and their love of bass vibrations; the girls dancing with abandon; the blue fug; the guy next to me who spent the concert timing Jerry's solos and writing numbers in his notebook; and most of all, just the sheer sense of joy and bonhomie. Fellow Deadheads, I salute you! Wish I's have seen them more often. Phil, Bob, Mickey, Billy... any chance of you guys coming to the UK anytime soon?

Jerry started losing his voice during Loose Lucy this night but a great show, werewolves of London in London, predictable but worth the price of admission. 26 years ago today, I remember buying the tickets for Nov 1 prior to this show and the buzz was they had been sound checking new speedway, soon come. Send Lawyers, Guns and Money we are trying to get back to the USA.
