Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music from 1973, 1983 and 1984.
Our first section this week is from 10/29/73 in St. Louis, the first of a two night run on an excellent tour, about as close to the a promotional album tour as the Dead would get, as Wake Of The Flood had been released just two weeks earlier on October 15, with the tour starting on October 19 on Oklahoma City. From the end of the first set we have Don't Ease Me In, Black-Throated Wind, Tennessee Jed, Race Is On, Row Jimmy, Eyes Of The World>China Doll, Around and Around.
Next up is music from 9/4/83 in Park West, UT, featuring the first set: Bertha>Promised Land, Friend Of The Devil, Little Red Rooster, Tennessee Jed>My Brother Esau, Althea>Hell In A Bucket, China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider. It's always a treat to play the then-new My Brother Esau.
Lastly this week is the first set from 10/15/84 in Hartford, CT, featuring Hell In A Bucket > Sugaree > El Paso; Bird Song ; C C Rider ; Tennessee Jed ; Jack Straw > Keep Your Day Job. This tour was filled with adventurous playing, including some truly majestic shows like 10/12/84 in August.
