Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll stay in the 1970s with music from 1971, 1973 and 1979.
Our first stop this week is in Detroit on 10/23/71, when the Grateful Dead were playing their first tour Keith Godchaux on piano, without Pigpen, who was home resting. They opened the tour in Minneapolis on 10/19/71, followed by two shows in Chicago and two in Detroit, of which this was the first show. From this night, we have Casey Jones ; Me And My Uncle ; Tennessee Jed ; Sugar Magnolia ; Comes A Time.
From two years later and just a little bit west, we have music from 12/6/73 in Cleveland, featuring Bertha ; Mexicali Blues ; Loser ; Black Throated Wind ; They Love Each Other ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Deal ; El Paso ; Row Jimmy ; Greatest Story Ever Told.
And from six years later, and just a little bit further west, we have music from the first set of 12/5/79 in Chicago, featuring Alabama Getaway> Greatest Story Ever Told ; Dire Wolf ; Me And My Uncle > Big River; Cold Rain And Snow.
Be sure to stop by next week for more music from the vault.
