HOW DO YOU XPLAINE A DEAD SHOW?
Hey all,Got a question for any one that cares to listen.... HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN A DEAD SHOW? I was wondering, ive tried to explain a grateful dead show to family, friends and co-worker, but all I can come up with is saying that its the kindest people you'll ever meet in the world. I try to talk alot about the music, but todays generation is more into the heavy metal or rap scene. So I guess what i'm asking is how do you explain to somebody thats never heard the music or been to a show what its like? Any feedback on this would be great! Peace Phatmoye

i think they ought to have a big Jerry/Buddha on the stage and after each song if the decibel meter doesn't redline from the cheers it should blow out a puff of smoke and say "hey!, what the fuck is this!" I love Bobby, Phil, Billy, and Mickey. I hope they make a billion dollars and then put on a big free concert this summer, preferably in the mountains in the middle of God's country here in Oregon! I'm glad they have another chance to play together and may our hope inspire them.

problem w/ ticketmaster and their cheap seats is that they are only available for a short time on-line. chances are come sat. when they go on sale, a 1/2 hour in- they will tell you tix are no longer available and the will give you a link to TicketsNow -which will have plenty of tix at obscene prices

Everything below was taken from the following link: http://www.rockgamer.com/2009/01/21/more-grateful-dead-heading-to-rock-… Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 3:00 pm Posted in Rock Band, Rock Band DLC, Rumors Earlier this morning, IGN posted an article on a Grateful Dead Pack headed to the Rock Band Music Store. The article has since been pulled, so somebody, somewhere must have goofed. Unfortunately, this is the internet, and you can’t always take back something once it’s been posted. See the full article’s text below that lists all of the songs, as well as the writer’s opinion on whether or not you should consider the buy. Rock Band Refresh: Grateful Dead Pack Full of greatness or just plain grating? by Nate Ahearn January 20, 2009 - Every Tuesday, MTV Games and Harmonix release new downloadable tracks for Rock Band on Xbox Live Marketplace for your rocking pleasure. But before they hit the ‘Net, they hit the IGN offices. Each week we’ll announce the new tracks alongside our impressions of the new content. So check back weekly for the latest on what’s new, what’s hot and what’s worth a download. A pack that will strike a particular chord with San Francisco residents (where IGN is located), Grateful Dead brings their second Rock Band offering. The pack includes six songs spanning a wide breadth of Grateful Dead tunage. Tracks range from Cold Rain and Snow from 1967 all the way up through 1987’s Hell in a Bucket. While I’m personally not a fan of Grateful Dead’s brand of classic rock, there’s no denying their impact on the music industry. For that reason, it’s a good thing that the band has been given its due in its second Rock Band pack. While every instrument doesn’t perform perfectly on the whole pack, there’s at least one in each track that everyone should be able to enjoy. Cold Rain and Snow Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 5 One of those super-rare tracks that provides a challenge for bass players. The rest of the instruments are serviceable, but the main guitar riff gets a little repetitive over time. It’s a fairly tough one, too. Like many of the tracks on this pack, Cold Rain and Snow is best enjoyed on hallucinogens. Verdict: Possible Download Doin’ That Rag Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 6 | Bass 4 No doubt, this is the toughest vocal song in the pack. Singers, be warned: the odd timber and pitch of the lyrics are very tough to emulate perfectly. There’s also a very tough and very long guitar solo that ends the song. Thankfully “Doin’ That Rag” does a good job of differentiating itself from the rest of the pack and is one of the best of the six. Verdict: Must Download Don’t Ease Me In Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 3 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 4 If you can hammer-on and hammer-off, you should be fine. If you can’t, you’re screwed. Don’t be fooled by the moderate difficulty rating for the guitar, it’s pretty tough. The vocals, while not as challenging, are still fun thanks to the upbeat nature of the song. Verdict: Must Download Fire on the Mountain Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 4 | Vocals 0 | Bass 0 The drum portion, while the most difficult instrument in the song, is pretty unimaginative and repetitive, sadly. The same goes for the vocals and bass. The guitar part does a good job of working its way around the pad, but overall, “Fire on the Mountain” is unimpressive. Verdict: Don’t Download Hell in a Bucket Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 3 | Drum 4 | Vocals 6 | Bass 3 My personal favorite of the songs on this pack. Every instrument is fast and fun with the vocals providing the biggest challenge. Playing both the guitar and drums is a physical challenge with reaches and quick movements required for both. If there’s one to get, in my opinion this is it. Verdict: Must Download Uncle John’s Band Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 2 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 0 | Bass 1 “Uncle John’s Band,” like the name might indicate to some, is a pretty ho-hum song. It’s about as close to singing “Kum Ba Yah” as Grateful Dead gets. The guitar has some difficult portions, but there’s much to it. If you can sing soothingly then you should be able to nail the peaceful vocals. Verdict: Possible Download

I'm sure there will be a few extra Bay Area shows added to the end of the schedule but it would be marvelous to have a European tour in summer. Some of us can't get visas to visit the US due to past glories on the GD lot. The guys will be settled in with each other by then so it would be a fun time for them and insirational too! :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Are you kind?"

All I know is that when I read this morning, I literally jumped up & down !!! I'm gonna plan on Chicago , LA & Mountain View Shows , I want to be at the last show of the tour. In 2004 I went all over to see them and the best was in George Was. @ the Gorge with the ABB , it was excellent. I just can't say how excited I am for this, that just made my Year for 2009, everything else comes second. Can Not WAIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna allow myself to become a kid again for a few nights and come join the party - 5 nights is what I think I can swing!! That video is what made me cry.... And speaking of that video - the boys sure have put out a few things with WONDERFUL shots & sounds from that Obama night.....DO I SMELL AN OFFICIAL DVD RELEASE COMING SOON?????? OOOOOOOOOOOO PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE?!?!?!??!!!! I was there and it was SUCH a magical evening....the sounds & sights they've released SO far from that night prove me right. I've heard the 'naysayers' say....it was feh, or whatever. SORRY - I've studied the music for far too long and have been playing it myself for over 20 years. They were listening SO intently to each other that night & played SO well with each other....that St. Stephen...The Other One...Help/Slip....PHEEEEEFREAKINOMINAL!!! ~ Pappy http://www.theCAUSEjams.com "Once in a while you can get shown the light in the strangest of places, if you look at it right." - Robert Hunter

...say, someplace that's within a few hours drive to a Dead show. Some of you 'heads have like six shows within an easy drive. I'm looking at eight hours to Greensboro, or 5-1/2 hours to Chicago (and that's driving all the way through Chicago, brrrrrr) Fingers crossed for a festival tour, I could tolerate the Manchester fuzz if the boys play Bonnaroo. Strap a retread to my feet. Just like the old days a nice little Spring northeast tour. Good to see the guys touring together again with Warren. Been truckin' to shows since "77 and, the last tour with Warren (check out 8/01/04 Saratoga Springs NY Jerry's birthday) was as close as you can get....to Jerry. Peace and Love. from post-Jerry shows, seeing only Phil & Friends twice since the Capt. left us. One show was great, the other so-so. However, I will take the plunge seeing as how the Boys seem genuinely psyched about getting back together, and Warren Haynes is an excellent choice (accepting that no one can or will ever replace JG in my eyes). So, its off to the Nassau Coliseum and MSG, just like the old days!!! "Let there be songs to fill the air."

Except for a few lucky folks it looks like they are only playing one night at each venue. In 2003 and 2004 they sold out Red Rocks 5 nights. Pepsi Center only holds about twice what Red Rocks holds. It just seems like they could play at least 2 nights at the Pepsi Center, but hey I am not complaining (well a little). Can't wait though, maybe we can get out to Cali. Last time I saw the Grateful Dead at Shoreline was in 1989. Man that would be crazy to get back out there. Actually I saw them in 91 there too or was it 92? Aye aye aye! Happy New Years my Deadhead sisters and brothers hope to see you this spring!! "I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines. I'm so excited to get out and see the boys again, it's been far too long! I tried to get up to SAn Fran for New YEars, but unfortunately the finances wouldn't allow it, but look out Los Angeles her I come!!! Wish they were coming to San DIego again...the venue down here is soooo much better than the Forum, but hey at least it's only a 2 hour drive away. And to top it off it's a Saturday night!!!! I can't wait, I'm giddy with excitement. Time to break out my dancing skirts! Take care everyone and hope see you all this Spring!

Actually we saw them 2 shows over this New Years (Pepsi Center, Dec 30th and 31st) and let me tell you Jimmy was on fire those nights. Mind blowing! I highly suggest finding those shows and downloading them. "I can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines. Come to daddy on an inside straight, well I've got no chance of losing this time"

This is the best way to start 2009!!!!Wish they were playing at Red Rocks, but then, maybe that will be a summer surprise. I went to the Ratdog & ABB show at Red Rocks this summer, and remembered how much I miss the band. When Jerry first passed, I couldn't imagine ever going to a show without him - so I haven't been to see The Dead since - I'm way past ready!

...to rest up after the last shows in Cali (although I'm guessing some Cali shows will get added), then they'll be off to Bonnaroo to start off the Festival Season - they'll hit all the ones that Phil&friends and Ratdog and Mickey + whoever have done for the last few years. At least that's what I'm hoping (although Bonnaroo is more of a hassle than it's worth, anymore. Big ol' corporate mall). All those shows in the northeast, they've basically ignored the southeast, and Chicago is the only Midwest show. Denver, then a couple for the Left Coast. If I can't pull off a trip to Chicago I guess I'll be missing this tour, Greensboro's 500 miles away and I don't see being able to afford it. ********************************************* I have a sigfile! --> www.kindveggieburritos.com *********************************************
