Aha! That makes a lot of sense. So, I'm guessing then that the seats you see listed on these scalper sites will not be made available to Dead fans when they go on sale tomorrow. Jeez, these guys run the world, don't they? Hoping I don't 'need a miracle' tomorrow. Aloha.

What you're seeing is the result of a sale strategy that almost all venues subscribe to. Essentially, a ticket agent purchases a block of tickets to ever event, guaranteeing the venue that it will move those seats, no matter what. The ticket agent is therefore able to offer those specific seats to any given event prior to the tickets actually going on sale. "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose

    Mail Order Ain't So Bad...
The only downside to mail order is the interminable wait to find out if you got tickets and where they are (and for those in groups >4, the uncertainty about proximity to friends). Beyond that, mail order is reliable, peaceful, appealingly low-tech (to me, anyway), and perhaps more likely to result in good seats, in that fellow deadheads are processing your order rather than an impersonal piece of software that techheads undoubtedly understand WAY better than I do. Frankly, I'm skeptical that there will be an on-line pre-sale, but like many others here, I'm registered and will be prepared to do the 'plastic thang' if it looks reasonable. Otherwise, I'm confident that GDTS will get their share of the pile and have good tickets to dispense. Sure wish Ruby hadn't retired, though...she'd always took good care of us, particularly if we took a little time to decorate the envelopes a bit. In any case, gang, try not to let the prices ruin the moment. I know money's tight for most, but if $100 is too much yet $50 is okay, doncha think you'll find a way to make up the difference...somehow? Eating regularly is overrated, anyway ;-) ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` One man gathers what another man spills...

Dead Tour tx already on sale?
I know they're scalpers, but how can they sell tix that aren't even on sale to Deadheads yet? If you go there, you can actually select sections and rows and buy the tix. I tried (just for the heck of it) to see if I could buy tix for the Mountain View show and it let me go all the way to checkout. Weird. I will certainly wait until tomorrow! See you there.

30+ years of buying tix and supporting the band and this tour/ticket scheme is bullshit. Jerry's ashes are rolling over in the Ganges River. They announce two prices for tix -- expensive and super expensive, but don't tell you what kind of seats you get for the extra cash. Unless, you buy a VIP package for several hundred dollars which gets you a ticket near the band. Only the rich folks have a chance to get good seats?! that is f...ing bullshit. Hate to say it but I think they will fail to sell out many of the shows in the northeast, and based on the way they are doing this, that is exactly what is deserved. It's great that they are rolling it out again, just can't believe they sold out basic fairness and screwed their most loyal, longtime fans in the process.

I used to make fun of the Eagles and CSN&Y for their rip off prices. It's sad the boys have joined that group. Part of the fun of seeing them was that they were not like any other band.

I don't know, but I'm guessing that the band and even the extended family has relatively little to do with ticket prices. Live concerts are a major worldwide industry. While I suspect that the band could arrange a tour of small venues, I'm not sure the tix would be a lot cheaper and they might even be higher. The stadium gigs allow big crowds and theoretically allow the maximum attendance (notwithstanding the costs). They would have to play a month long run at the Fillmore to allow the same crowd as a single shoreline show and a month at the Fillmore isn't real likely. I wish the tickets were cheap and plentiful; I'm baffled by the online purchase system and I've got my fingers crossed that I can make it work in the morning. I wish Jerry was singing and Brent was playing the keys, but it is what it is. Save the griping for the government... G

I have used music today several times and they do charge an extra service charge, also beware of the mailing options for they automatically put you on the most expensive mailing option but you can change that option but you have to click that option, there is no access code or password, all you have to do is registor and then when you go back to the site tomorrow all you have to do is sign in with the password you made. This is not rocket science and very user friendly.

The VIP "Consider it Dan" business is total bullshit. Who's idea was it to give the best tickets in the house to only those who could pony up $500-$1500?!?! That's where I used to dance. I'm rethinking buying any dates on this tour and I know I'm not alone. When the tour was announced some of us Fair Family started putting together a school bus trip back east. Furthur III. After people caught the VIP thing (Dollars for Dan) we've had half our crew bail out and the bus is staying in the barn. A real loss for the lot. But that's not what it's about anymore is it. Good luck with your business. Formerly Grateful, TheEnjoyer

First off, I'm a bit disappointed to say the least in the bands decision to rake it in on this tour. When they toured back in '03 and '04, the prices were no where near what they are now. 5 years pass and the prices have doubled. WTF?? I know there are going to be some good shows and we are all happy to hear about them performing together again and making music, but come on. What I want to know is if Bobby is going to sing "We used to play for life, now we play for silver" during Jack Straw. Really a shame guys. I'm happy I get to go see Billy at the Crystal with Karl Denson here in Portland for $25. Just one more note here too. When The Who tried to charge a shitload of money for their show about a year ago and no one bought enough tickets, they lowered their price the week of the show to $25. If we all said sorry, but, earth to the band, we are in a recession and some of us lost a shitload of money or jobs recently and we're not buying $100 tickets, perhaps they might lower the prices too. I'll pay $50 or $60, but not $100. Too rich for my blood, and I love you guys, seriously.

So I'm just wondering how much a veggie burrito or grilled cheese will cost on this tour? If its $100 per ticket, I think $8 bucks for a grilled cheese is fair game. Thats about fair, right guys?

Philly mail order (GDTS TOO) has $69 tix and $99 tix. Internet pre-sale (Dead.Net) has only $95.50 tix. Is this right? I can save $30 per tic through mail order only? These hundred dollar price tags suck. Two of my old tour brothers and I were going to hit both Philly shows. Revisit the old days. One of them dropped off because he's disgusted with the ticket prices, the other one is currently out of work on disability with a family to support and he just can't swing 100 bones for a show. I'm trying to work something out so the three of us can see just one show. If we can save $30 per tic through mail order, I can probably get them both back on the bus. Can anyone shed some light on why mail order has two price tiers and online pre-order only the upper tier? Thanks brothas and sistas... Searching for the Sound

What a joke, I thought the Dead were all about bucking the trend and were huge proponents of "change" as evidenced by their recent Obama benefit. Obviously the only thing that has changed about the Dead is their hunger for more money. Thanks alot for letting half of your fanbase down guys, most people I know who wanted to hit some shows now can't afford it.

I guess the bus needs an overhaul. But seriously, I wonder how much more it costs for a band to play a place like the Spectrum or the Pepsi Center compared to what it cost 5 years ago. This may not be all on the band. Even if it is then so be it. They've given us a lifetime of good times and good music and it may be The Last Time and all you people complaining can do is say that they've sold out... that they've money hungry and they let us down... I know this was probably really bad timing with the economy and all but EVERYTHING costs more than it did 5 years ago. I'm barely scrapping to get 1 ticket. But I'm not going to dog on the band!

I understand it takes alot to move a show from town to town. I also know it's nice to get paid to do something you love to do. For me and I know 95% of Deadheads do tour for the love of the music, not for the love of money. Sure we sell things on lot, but that is to get to the next show, not to retire on. If you are thinking we need to make the money as fast as we can, STOP IT. We are always going to be here for you because we really Love You. I wanted to do Tour again like I did last time, but now will do maybe a couple shows. I will not be buying the tix thru you, but on the lot for $20.00 like so may times before. If I dont get in oh well, theres always the tapes to get me thru. Please don't forget WE DO LOVE YOU "It's like a mighty melody that rings down from the sky"

People should have seen this coming. I am sure the guys are invested in the same markets that most people are that just took a big dump. Surely they can't play until they are 100. I am disappointed and have cut my tour down to only two shows, but I will get the "price 1" level tickets and hope that I can see the rhythym devils and some bobby kicks...but I doubt it.

For $100, they'll be doing it without me. I'll wait to see Phil or Ratdog for $60 at a club, rather than spend $100 for the distant arena experience. This will be the first time I am missing a "Dead" tour in 25 years. I was planning on at least three shows, and taking my wife to a couple. But times are tough, and if the band doesn't understand that, than I don't need to contribute to their pension plan. In this economy, it's absurd for them to charge that kind of money, if the arena's are making them pay that kind of overhead, than they should wait for the shed season. $200 for a pair of Dead tickets is absurd. Good luck with the tour guys, you'll need it. Bleedin' Out http://bleedinout.blogspot.com/ Punk Rock , Garage Rawk & omfug
