HOW DO YOU XPLAINE A DEAD SHOW?
Hey all,Got a question for any one that cares to listen.... HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN A DEAD SHOW? I was wondering, ive tried to explain a grateful dead show to family, friends and co-worker, but all I can come up with is saying that its the kindest people you'll ever meet in the world. I try to talk alot about the music, but todays generation is more into the heavy metal or rap scene. So I guess what i'm asking is how do you explain to somebody thats never heard the music or been to a show what its like? Any feedback on this would be great! Peace Phatmoye

i think they ought to have a big Jerry/Buddha on the stage and after each song if the decibel meter doesn't redline from the cheers it should blow out a puff of smoke and say "hey!, what the fuck is this!" I love Bobby, Phil, Billy, and Mickey. I hope they make a billion dollars and then put on a big free concert this summer, preferably in the mountains in the middle of God's country here in Oregon! I'm glad they have another chance to play together and may our hope inspire them.

problem w/ ticketmaster and their cheap seats is that they are only available for a short time on-line. chances are come sat. when they go on sale, a 1/2 hour in- they will tell you tix are no longer available and the will give you a link to TicketsNow -which will have plenty of tix at obscene prices

Everything below was taken from the following link: http://www.rockgamer.com/2009/01/21/more-grateful-dead-heading-to-rock-… Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 3:00 pm Posted in Rock Band, Rock Band DLC, Rumors Earlier this morning, IGN posted an article on a Grateful Dead Pack headed to the Rock Band Music Store. The article has since been pulled, so somebody, somewhere must have goofed. Unfortunately, this is the internet, and you can’t always take back something once it’s been posted. See the full article’s text below that lists all of the songs, as well as the writer’s opinion on whether or not you should consider the buy. Rock Band Refresh: Grateful Dead Pack Full of greatness or just plain grating? by Nate Ahearn January 20, 2009 - Every Tuesday, MTV Games and Harmonix release new downloadable tracks for Rock Band on Xbox Live Marketplace for your rocking pleasure. But before they hit the ‘Net, they hit the IGN offices. Each week we’ll announce the new tracks alongside our impressions of the new content. So check back weekly for the latest on what’s new, what’s hot and what’s worth a download. A pack that will strike a particular chord with San Francisco residents (where IGN is located), Grateful Dead brings their second Rock Band offering. The pack includes six songs spanning a wide breadth of Grateful Dead tunage. Tracks range from Cold Rain and Snow from 1967 all the way up through 1987’s Hell in a Bucket. While I’m personally not a fan of Grateful Dead’s brand of classic rock, there’s no denying their impact on the music industry. For that reason, it’s a good thing that the band has been given its due in its second Rock Band pack. While every instrument doesn’t perform perfectly on the whole pack, there’s at least one in each track that everyone should be able to enjoy. Cold Rain and Snow Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 5 One of those super-rare tracks that provides a challenge for bass players. The rest of the instruments are serviceable, but the main guitar riff gets a little repetitive over time. It’s a fairly tough one, too. Like many of the tracks on this pack, Cold Rain and Snow is best enjoyed on hallucinogens. Verdict: Possible Download Doin’ That Rag Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 6 | Bass 4 No doubt, this is the toughest vocal song in the pack. Singers, be warned: the odd timber and pitch of the lyrics are very tough to emulate perfectly. There’s also a very tough and very long guitar solo that ends the song. Thankfully “Doin’ That Rag” does a good job of differentiating itself from the rest of the pack and is one of the best of the six. Verdict: Must Download Don’t Ease Me In Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 3 | Drum 3 | Vocals 1 | Bass 4 If you can hammer-on and hammer-off, you should be fine. If you can’t, you’re screwed. Don’t be fooled by the moderate difficulty rating for the guitar, it’s pretty tough. The vocals, while not as challenging, are still fun thanks to the upbeat nature of the song. Verdict: Must Download Fire on the Mountain Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 3 | Guitar 2 | Drum 4 | Vocals 0 | Bass 0 The drum portion, while the most difficult instrument in the song, is pretty unimaginative and repetitive, sadly. The same goes for the vocals and bass. The guitar part does a good job of working its way around the pad, but overall, “Fire on the Mountain” is unimpressive. Verdict: Don’t Download Hell in a Bucket Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 4 | Guitar 3 | Drum 4 | Vocals 6 | Bass 3 My personal favorite of the songs on this pack. Every instrument is fast and fun with the vocals providing the biggest challenge. Playing both the guitar and drums is a physical challenge with reaches and quick movements required for both. If there’s one to get, in my opinion this is it. Verdict: Must Download Uncle John’s Band Price: 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) Difficulty: Band 2 | Guitar 2 | Drum 3 | Vocals 0 | Bass 1 “Uncle John’s Band,” like the name might indicate to some, is a pretty ho-hum song. It’s about as close to singing “Kum Ba Yah” as Grateful Dead gets. The guitar has some difficult portions, but there’s much to it. If you can sing soothingly then you should be able to nail the peaceful vocals. Verdict: Possible Download

I just attempted to set up a new account so I could get a new verification code just in case that is the access code. It wouldn't let me do it even with a new user name & password. Can't change the email address.

Your access code is how many shows you saw with Jerry alive, minus the times you saw the Other Ones, or The Dead divided by your security code on the back of your credit card... It appears that if you are registered in the ticket page, you will have access to the presale at noon EST no code, just get yer ass all reg'd up on the site...go! Do it! Now!

You know who is gonna get screwed? Any head that buys extra tickets for the show and has someone cancel out on them. Because, when you're at the arena and have an extra $100 ticket or even a pair of extra's, and you're dealin' with everyone who's looking for a "miracle", you're gonna eat a lot of your money. Even Madison Square Garden is going to have extra's available. I have never been to a show at the Garden for any show (except maybe U2) that didn't have people with extra's. Seeing how the Dead are flooding the NY market, with a Nassau, a NYC and 2 Secaucus shows, there are going to be plenty of tickets available, especially when most NY heads will only get tix for one or maybe two shows... remember... back in the day, we all did the whole NY run... even the 9 show stretch in 88.

I have a suggestion: save your money. Especially if you can draw upon fine memories of shows past. Lets face it, this is not the same band and these are not the same times. To try to relive them is futile. Even the lot scene has a "been-there-done-that" sort of vibe to it. If you have the means, the money would probably be better spent (and you'll probably have a much better time for a lot less of it) hanging out with some good friends and/or checking out some local music. These hard-working artists could certainly use our support more than these millionares. If you really need a Dead fix, you could always pop in a good bootleg, grab some microbrews or whatever else makes you happy, and have a good-ol' time with your buds (no pun intended ;-) ). Remember, the Dead (and esp. Jerry) never wanted to be about being the center of attention, just the background music for your good time. Even better, if you have this kind of disposable income, I suggest sending some of it to your local food bank or some other organization that will help people less fortunate than you. They could use the $100 a whole lot more, and it will put your love-thy-neighbor ideology to a lot better use than "miracle tickets" or buying t-shirts in the lot with cute sayings on them. These are just suggestions-please no flames, just do what seems right in your heart.

with this VIP tour package crap? how freakin' elitist can you get? who is dan of consideritdan? i can understand ticket prices to a degree, but i'm reconsidering ordering tickets if this is what has become of "the grateful dead". used to be we all had a good shot at good tickets -- now they're for the folks who have the extra cash. it's really sad.

I am going to guess that because live nation is running this...the first 20 rows will be 100...just like the allmans at the beacon...they were 150 and the rest were 99......so i bet 90% of the tixs are 55-65 $$ which is fine by me

I've been thinking about this for a bit now, and am realizing some things... a) The Dead are not conscious of the current times we are in b) The venues are probably charging an arm and a leg just for this band to play in them, let alone concession BS and all that. c) BUT, ultimately the decision of what to charge should and DOES come down to the band, because if they chose not to play because of what "their" ticket agency wants people to pay, there would be no show. d) Does that make The Dead corporately controlled? YES e) I'm sure that if asked, they'd say they aren't "down" with the high ticket prices, but then again they need the money (seemingly). f) so, they realize that people will pay to see them no matter what the price g) I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to see the Dead. I never got a chance to with Jerry still alive, but luckily have since had the opportunity to catch Rat Dog with Bob Weir twice, and they were FANTASTIC. I'm sure these shows'll be a blast, BUT reasonably considering everything current in my life and in what appears to be the lives of those around me, this IS a joke. h) I won't compare them to other bands as many others here have already done, because they're the Dead! They are %$@%%^ great! If the opportunity still arises, I will see them. Though, I share the sentiments of those who are complaining about ticket prices to some degree because music isn't about money. i) I was going to attend a Spectrum show in Philly. A thought that's buzzed through my mind is "What if I buy a ticket to the one of two shows there that they end up cancelling due to a lack of ticket sales?" Not saying that'll happen, but seriously, that would suck. j) My band (not that I currently have one) would play for people for hours at 5 bucks a head, and have people just as ecstatically released as the Dead would, if not more. Hell, we'd even cover a dead song or two if that'd please you (it would please us too). Seriously, this REALLY IS a JOKE! But, to everyone who is definitely going to be attending, HAVE A BLAST! If I can, I will still go and I'll be dancing with yous. -G

I got my tickets, but i was clicking blindly. Some of the boxes were blacked out and the buttons were x's. When you scrolled over them they all said the same thing for the address. Damn, nerve racking. opted for the cheaper(<----lol) ticket in d.c. got upper tier, but got the floor section 2 the next night in virginia. like everyone else, it was kind of slow and it took about a total of 40 minutes for me...i first requested 4 floor seats at the Forum on 5/9 but it came back and said no floor seats were available. I went back and requested 4 loge tix and got them...should be OK with the seats. while it took a long time, it did keep moving for me and was about the same as any other extremely popular presale that i've been through online. it will be interesting to see how many tickets remain after today's initial rush...

This ticket process is a fiasco. You boys have lost it, letting this type of thing happen. I couldn't/still can't get in. However, I was able to go see literally thousands of tickets available on places like stubhub right at 12 Noon Eastern. However, I would have had to pay over $400 for an upper bowl section at All State Arena. I've seen the Dead over 50 times in my life, starting in 1977. No more. Where's Jerry when we need him?

I didn't connect through the link on this site, since my company's content filter was blocking anything with "musictoday" in the title. Somehow got in through the registration page, and then the wait was on. Heaven help anyone trying for multiple shows this way. Now I can't wait to see if my seats are real. The venue map that I'm looking at shows floor seats 1-12 in each section...I've got 13 and 14. Huh? Slowest online ticket experience I've had since dial-up. The ticketing site was definitely overwhelmed....I expect crap seats after the wait, but still scored 10 row. Again, assuming that the seats really exist. Good luck to all and see you at the show!

i tried in one browser after the screen wouldn't let me update my delivery method and it reset everything to zero with no way of getting it back. by the time i got back in i had lost my sweet upfront seats and had to settle for nose bleeds. atleast i had two browsers going so i got better seats for the second show.ALSO, if you have two browsers going DONT enter card info on both---they read off of eachother. once seats are confirmed in one browser they'll show up in your cart of the other. I don;t want to see anyone get double charged

I got my three for Wilkes Barre. Finally. It took 55 minutes, numerous page-not-founds, timeouts and locked screens, but I'm going! Was going to try for floor seats, but after all that time, I expected I would get last row floor or yet another error page and I'd rather a decent mid-level than that. Most stressful ticket experience I've ever had on the net. What were they thinking??!! Oh, well, now just 3 more months to wait to get in there and shake my bones!!!
