Other than Donna The Buffalo?
Hello,
I am suffering from a bit of cognitive dissonance with this site (set against a backdrop of being really impressed and excited!).
I want to talk about a band that isn't Donna The Buffalo. How can I do this? It says "You are not allowed to post a new forum topic". Surely this is NOT how this forum is going to work? Do I really have to propose a forum topic to dead.net and have it approved before I can mention the name of the band I want to recommend?
Am I just being dull here?
Take care all.
Soeharto...
As stated elsewhere, for the moment topic starting is turned off because there are quite a few software issues, etc. we're trying to deal with.
For the moment, if you want a topic created, send a message to izzie or me, the mods, and we'll get on it in pretty quick fashion. Thank you.
wild magnolias/wilmington de
only 24 hours to decide on this one kids but if you are near wilmington de tuesday night---it's bo dollis and the wild magnolias. bo went through some hard times after the flood but he's back. nothing prettier than a mardi gras indian. free too so ya' don't need a miracle ticket.
I know this band....
I was living in Tucson,AZ and working downtown. I would go out front of my office on break to have a smoke and would see a guy selling hotdogs from a portable stand. After a few visits we got to talking etc. I mentioned that I was/am a avid Deadhead and had followed the band around the country. He was/is from the East coast and told me about a few bands from his part of the word. The next time we met he loaned me a few CDs, one of them was Donna the Buffalo. I have never seen them life but I remeber they area cool band. Thanks for putting this thead up. Eric
We need to pack the house here
Being stuck in the middle, I do not know what it is like on the coasts, but I always give my available friends tickets when they come through our area, but there's always enough room for me to dance all around and while I am gonna do this anyway, I would rather fill the space with more bones.
I really enJoy their music, gotta have me a daily dose.
All right whose got shows to trade? I have one worth sharing.....
DtB shows.
Hey Peg. I've got a few good ones, but they're old now. Prime Jim Miller era even. What were you looking for?
Open to suggestions
Old is good as new, that's why we archive, no?
I try to stick to uncompressed files, so no MP3's from my side are ever even on the table.
I have a complete Janus Landing show from 5/4/2002. Probably older than yours even?
I do miss Jim Miller, got a Dead Hour where Gans had them in studio, sweetness. They do a Dylan cover....gotta find that cassette.
let's talk!
Hey Crazy Peg -- I'll send you a PM. I have that Janus Landing show, and some older and some newer.
Donna the buffalo
Great band. Remember cutting a rug with my then wife at wakarusa in 2005. Listen to their shows on the Internet Archive and they are consistently good. Shame they are not big enough to tour the UK.
Any cool linx to this
Any cool linx to this band??!.....anyone? :)

DONNA THE BUFFALO HEADLINES
DONNA THE BUFFALO HEADLINES ZYDECO CONCERT AT SMITH OPERA HOUSE
GENEVA -- A double-bill featuring Ithaca-based roots rockers Donna the Buffalo and special guest Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band is the next event in Hobart and William Smith Colleges' "Live from Geneva" concert series, Friday, February 15 at the Smith Opera House,
82 Seneca St. Tickets are $9 for all students and $17 general admission. Doors open at 7 for the 8:00 show.
Returning to Geneva for the first time since Halloween, 1997, Donna the Buffalo is known for their willingness to embrace multiple styles of music -- reggae, zydeco, old time country, and more -- producing a sound that is original but familiar, catchy yet thoughtful. They are also the founders of the Finger Lakes Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance held for the past 17 years in Trumansburg, N.Y. For more information, visit www.donnathebuffalo.com.
Also featured is special guest Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. Playing the zydeco grassroots style common to Southwestern Louisiana and Southeast Texas, Frank and his band have spent the past
15 years developing a fresh, original sound while staying true to their Creole tradition. The result, while 100-percent zydeco, is also fused with rhythm and blues, soul, pop, rock, and even a little hip- hop, producing a style that is uniquely their own. To find out more, go to www.keithfrank.com.
Aside from a great show, this concert is also a fundraiser; students will be collecting donations at the door on behalf of HWS Responds for Hurricane Katrina relief.
And in the spirit of Mardi Gras, beads will be distributed to patrons.
Zydeco is the fast and furious accordion-driven dance music of the Creole people of South Louisiana, a relatively modern style that emerged after the Second World War. In the early 1950s, traditional Cajun and Creole music collided with the rocking Rhythm and Blues sounds that were sweeping the country, and a new style of music emerged. It was christened Zydeco, from a song popularized by Zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier.
The "Live from Geneva" series is made possible with a $200,000 grant given to Hobart and William Smith Colleges by the New York State Music Fund. Like all the events in the series, it will be broadcast live on WEOS, making it available to the larger Geneva community.
"The concerts will be a wonderful opportunity for the Colleges to contribute to the already rich cultural life in Geneva," said William Smith Dean Debra DeMeis. "'Live from Geneva' is another example of the strong partnership between the Geneva community and the Colleges that benefits both residents and students."
Tickets are available at The Smith box office, by calling 315-781- LIVE (5483) or toll-free 866-355-LIVE (5483,) and on-line at www.TheSmith.org. Smith box office hours are weekdays between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m. The Smith accepts MasterCard, Visa and Discover.
Yes, I've herd of 'em!
I first herd of Donna the Buffalo from a friend (who has recently passed away), and liked his taste in music. So when I saw they were coming to a local club, I had to check 'em out. What a wonderful good time. I credit this band for getting me back in the swing --there were quite a few deadheads there, including a group of four from Florida doin' the tour. I've seen the band two more times since then including the Grassroots Music and Dance Festival in Ithaca, NY (their home town), last July. Don't miss them if they come to your area. Great groove. Great dance music. Always puts me in a good mood.
Thanks for the heads up on…
