She's a great sport and she has warmed up to the music and enjoys the shows and the scene but still to this day she still doesn't "get it". She wants me to take her to Reo Speedwagon and Styx... uhhh yeah sure I say... :-) Oh and 38 special let's not forget them they'll be there too :-) "When the smoke has cleared she said, that's what she said to me. Same lot we were at, we stayed at the Hilton so we had a clear view before we even headed down. We probably crossed paths several times. We are going to see Bob Weir-RatDog at the Festival Up North in Aug. I am trying to get a feel on the scene there though. So many friggin rules listed on their website. I am wondering if it is just a CYA situation or if they are really that strict.

Just checked gboro for giggles and see side stage seats are available but at these prices will take a pass. The april fools show @gboro in 91 now that was hot! Will stick with the free archive.org memories but might stop by the lot in gboro anyhow and look for a cheap ticket. have fun! http://www.archive.org/details/gd1991-04-01.sbd.miller.31966.sbeok.flac…

I spent an hur trying to get logged in before I finally got in. Then I was put in a holding patern for around 30 minuits before the connection was dropped. I tried to get back in for another 15 minuits before I had to return to Life. Now I log back in and only the show that I can get to is sold out. I guess it's just a sign! It was kind of wierd that all of the good seats are being sold by a ticket scalper! $350 per ticket, give me a break! Personally I would have had to work to get the $95 that they wanted for the other seats. Oh well, I will just have to wait for the video.

After days of despair over extortion ticket prices, officially condoned scalping in the guise of "VIP packages", a totally fucked up on line ticket sale process and lack of accurate information, I was explaining the situation at the family dinner table. My wife said "Don't they know the economy is in the toilet"? To which my eleven year old daughter chimed in "Don't they know half the band is dead"? Maybe you had to be there, but sometimes a child can put things in focus. Thirty plus years of shows and I am terribly disillusioned at this moment, but the laugh my daughter gave me took away some of the edge.

I am truly disappointed with the way the pre-sale went down. I would have thought that if anyone could have provided a fair ticket-buying experience it would have been the Dead "organization" and their ticket vendor. Turns out they can't; like every other shyster promoter out there, my experience today was actually the worst experience I've EVER HAD in buying pre-sale tickets. I've had much better experiences through Ticketmaster and Live Nation (who knows . . . they're probably both at the root of this debacle anyway) and that ain't sayin' much. Take a gander at how many tickets are being sold by scalpers already! How does that happen?! It happens because the "safeguards" that were in place did nothing but safeguard the STATUS-QUO, thereby allowing every scalper out there to get the lions' share of every good seat available, and freezing out the rest of us! Have The Dead forgot those of us deadheads who have been with them since the beginning?! It sure feels like it. I had an incredibly frustrating time in my attempt to purchase tickets - I just wanted ONE ticket for each of the couple of shows I wanted to attend - and it turned out way too confusing, convoluted, and skewed to make it worth the $115 cost for a seat and a date I really didn't want and to which it took an hour-plus to finally achieve the end result [without being bumped out, frozen out, or otherwise timed-out as I had throughout] before I was able to complete my purchase. My first Dead show was 33 years ago. If today was any indication of how the future of the Dead's ticket distribution will look like, then this May 2009 will be it for me. It's just not worth the aggravation, cost, and disappointment, where the system allows those who are honest fans to get beaten over by scalpers once again. There . . . I got that off my chest. PS:Thanks for so many incredible shows! Disillusioned words like bullets bark as human gods aim for their mark make everything from toy guns that spark to flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark it's easy to see without looking too far not much is really sacred. I checked at 11:55 am to see if I could pre-load my "account" information with mailing information and my credit card number and, to my surprise, was placed in the "waiting room" because there was already "high demand." I thought the whole process was supposed to kick off at high Noon EST. After waiting for an hour in the "waiting room" I got in. Tried every permutation to get 4 tickets to MSG. No luck, so I bailed around 1:30 frustrated and pissed. To add insult to injury, I got an email from dead.net at 1:46 pm saying the pre-order started. WTF? I'm done with this band. $100/seat for a Jerry-less Dead is not worth this much hassle. What started out a long time ago as a cosmic adventure has turned into a money-grab. Can't say I blame any artist for wanting to make some duckets to provide for retirement/kid's future but there was a point in the not so distant past where the true fans could pay a fair price and get tickets by filling out a 3x5 index card, a money order and an envelope (and the old system kept Dead office people employed). This band has turned into one giant cluster f*ck since Jer checked out. I would rather take the $100, buy 4 DSO tickets and a round of drinks for my friends, hear a great show, and be happy. I'm out. Nice knowing you.

I also had tons of trouble getting on to the ticket sale site this morning. when i finally did get on, trying to buy tickets for 4 different locations, i was rejected at checkout. the message was that i had timed out!! huh????? i wasn't the one taking so long!! it was so incredibly frustrating. i ended up getting shut out of msg :( but was successful securing tix for buffalo, nassau coliseum and shoreline. happy 'bout that, but still hoping for msg.by the way, if this was the "presale", does that mean the "regular" ticket sales have yet to happen? if so, when?

When I ordered tix for the Cali shows I was awash in stress just for a tix in the door, not concerned much about good seats. But I was expecting to see 'Tapers Section' in the list but didn't. I got 2 $50 Lawn at Shoreline (most important, last show - prayin for a longer tour in Cali :)) and 2 $100 Colannade for The Forum. I feel the miracle, considering other's woes. People should be happy tixs are still on pre sale, some say, and Ticket Master just posted the Tour on sale to gen public Jan. 24th. Anyway, where were the tapers section tixs? Are they only on mail order? That's the only place I saw any reference to them. I think I'll prepare my mail package tonight and pray for 'Taper's Tix's'. Does anyone know how it works? I've never been blessed with the chance before. Still can't believe I'll be there. Still have the stress from this morning somehow. Still dancin inside. Got a bolltle of wine after work to try and help it sink in and calm down. Feel the Love of the Band. :):):) Piles and Piles and Piles of Smiles!

Send good vibes? Come to their senses? $100 to sit in the 300s at MSG (which I couldn't even get). What are you talking about? It's not so much the money (although I don't know of too many folks getting a pay increase in '09), what irks me is the powers to be keep make really stupid decisions, this being the latest in a long string of gaffs. I wasted 1.5 hours of my life that I could have spent with my kids staring at a computer telling me there is "high demand" and to not hit refresh. I can't get that time back. Why use a system that doesn't work? Admit reality - the peace and love disappeared on 8/9/95. Time to hang it up on move on. I did at 1:30 pm EST this afternoon.

Set up account as directed last evening ,,, ignored b.s. rumors about password ... opened ticket calendar window ahead of time ... opened the Garden seating chart ahead of time that shows a picture of the view from every seat. ... walked into my office and shut the door @11:55 ... sat at my desk and kept at it for 45 minutes ... if I hit an hour, I'll walk to the P.O. and do mail order ... got offered decent seats, checked the picture, done. My wife and I get to see some of the most creative musicians at work today play their hearts out for two or three hours. Beautiful! I assume these websites are run by real people doing their best, and I count my blessings that I see things that way.

I bought 2 seats to the shows because I would have more fun if I found a miracle pretty girl to tour with, but if I have to tour alone I will and that means I've got a potential miracle in my pocket right now. Imagine how I'll feel if I get tapers tixs in the mail and get GA admission on the floor for The forum too, on reg sale? Gonna try for many miracles. Good luck all. :):):). Gotta keep tryin all the way to the door and beyond. Isn't that the old way I've been taught but only once had the pleasure of experiencing. I was lucky enough to get to the '92' Hamilton, Can. shows in university. Best shows of my life, never thought I'd get another chance. Hear it is. I'm goin for it. Gonna love seeing how things are nowadays. Anyone else comin down from Vancouver, BC. It's Going to be a Grateful Trip to Cali.

i am sick of the people sticking up for these outrageous ticket prices. In no way do they need to charge this much money to make a living. They make money every day off of royalties and their other bands. This is total bull shit and can't believe that they would do this to their fans. I mean come on. Jerry isn't even alive. And oh yeah, were missing a couple of keyboardists too. Worst tour ever

I have to say I was quite surprised at how much the tickets are. They are outragous, It just knocked me out for going on tour, I got a ticket for Chicago and I'm glad I have it , but I can't afford a $100.00 a show so there will be no tour for me. I just paid $113.00 with the taxes for an upper level ticket at rosemont, I know this place and thats alot of money for the seat. I'm really surprised that they are doing this like this, it certainly not what the Dead were about. Like I said at least I have a ticket. I also saw that the cheapest VIP ticket was $395.00 for a ticket for one night , oh the extras along with it , thats just silly. I'm disappointed that they are doing this like this, but I will be there to rock. I'm sorry to say all this , because I was glad that they decided to do the tour. My apologies to anyone I have offended and to the band , but come on.

I hear ya, culliganman. I wanted tix at Rosemont too -- and they're still available at this moment. But for seats in the nosebleed section (upper 200's), you would think THOSE would be the cheaper $50 seats. But no, they're $95! I want to know where the $50 ones are. I guess they're out in the hall or something. Crazy.

Longrifle-in days of yore when i was an active taper (did 40-50 shows a year), taper tix were almost always only available from GDTS. I can only think of a couple of shows that were not exclusively available via GDTS. So, ya, go ahead and do mail order for the taper tickets. I doubt that they will sell out of taper tickets on the first day of mail order (if for no other reason than there are fewer tapers nowadays). If you get it postmarked on the 14th, i think you'll be ok for most of the shows, if not all. just remember to put "taper tickets please" on the outside of your envelope (along with the venue date and number of tickets- max 2 for taper). good luck- get some good tapes.

my first post, could be my last post. I'm calling this the "Jerry's dead, let's make some bread" tour. They obviously don't give a rats ass about the fans, they just want the $$$$. No wonder they took "Grateful" out of the name. Two shows on the west coast? One in the midwest? 100 dollars plus for a decent ticket? Sorry, but these boys just aren't worth that, especially with the cost of travelling at least 800 miles just for the privilege of seeing them. I'd go if they played Eugene for $50-$60, and even that seems outrageous, for a band that hasn't put a studio album out in almost 20 years and is missing the guy everyone wanted to hear. And remember this - ticket prices didn't go insane until after 08/95. If you don't believe me, just look back at your old ticket stubs....

The dead should do 1 show for FREE, but it would have to be somewhere BIG, then we could see exactly how many dead heads there actually are in the U.S. If the dead could do this, then maybe people will stop complaining about ticket prices and everyone will just get along. I got online at about quarter of three and wasn't able to get a single ticket for MSG. But luckily I happen to live in Worcester, so I grabbed a lower level for about $115. Just go grab some beers at the bar, go to the show, and take a taxi home. I can sympathize with people about prices though. I was a little disappointed myself but forked over the dough...since my city is getting two shows, I really can't complain. Can't wait till 4/19, being that i'm 22 i never got a chance to hear Jerry's guitar grace my ears live, and this will be my first time seeing The Dead together and my first time seeing Warren Haynes live. I think there are still tickets available for lower levels on the 19th of April in Worcester, so if there are any dead heads in the New England area you should jump on that. Good luck everyone and enjoy your shows.

I started trying to log into the system at 9 a.m. sharp. After a few false starts, I managed to get to the beginning of the process. Step by step I painstakingly made my way through 8 or 9 pages - each one taking 3 - 4 minutes to load. It was all worth it - I managed to get two excellent reserved seats for Shoreline. (I did note, however, that the entire first section of the venue was already sold out, a fact I find curious because I don't see how that many people could have logged in any faster than I did). I was on the next to the last page where you enter all of the mailing information. I put in the zip code and noticed that there were NO fields displayed for city and state. I figured that those fields would not appear if you put in the zip code. Alas, I was mistaken. I could not get past that page; I kept getting the message that it could not process the request without the city and state fields filled in. I tried not putting in the zip code - still no city or state fields could be seen. I had not choice but to return to my assigned work cubicle un-ticketed. I had wasted 45 minutes of my life. I was SO disappointed. Now, reading all the comments about the problems, not to mention the prices, maybe I'm better off.

Yes, it blows, the process was hosed and it's WAY too expensive. That said, I was fortunate enough to attend the New Year's shows and I can personally attest that music is different, but it still brings a smile to my soul. 50 years upon my head so I've seen a lot of good and bad, stuff go down. I'm disappointed with the way this tour has been launched, but it's the kind of disappointment I feel when a family member or close friend does something to hurt me. I don't like it, it makes me sad for awhile, but ultimately I still love them and choose to get on with it if I can or remove myself if I have to. And so it shall be here. Shows were too big a part of my life for too many years to give it up because of one really disappointing experience. Maybe that makes me a fool, but I'll live with it unless and until it happens again. Then we'll see. Hopefully we'll all be repaid in kind at some point. I sure hope. Fare thee well and travel in peace and health.............

Longrifle-In days of yore, i did a lot of dead taping (40-50 shows a year). Taper tickets were almost always only available through GDTS. I can only think of a couple of times when this was not the case. So, go ahead and order tckets via mail order. I think you'll have a very good chance of getting taper tickets if your order is post marked on the 14th (if for no other reason than there aren't as many tapers nowadays). just remember to to "taper tickets please" on the outside of your envelop (alaong with the vene date and number of tickets- 2 max for taper). good luck- and make some great tapes!

Hi all, Some folks I know got tickets for Greensboro today, and I'm happy for them. Part of me is still trying to swallow the pill of the pricing and the ticket system. I feel The Dead are well worth the money, but the fact is, I don't feel they should. Its weird. The way I look at it is that we have been some of the most dedicated fans out there. Folks that have gone to Dead shows for years and years have never come close to having to pay this much for a show, myself included. My main point is If it weren't for people like us going to many, many, shows and buying many, many cds, dvds, books and GD merchandise, the band would not have the lifestyle they have. But there are people like us, who love the Grateful Dead, and while there are many of us, we all have helped contribute a great way of life for the band and vice versa too. I wouldn't be the person I am without the GOD DAMNED GRATEFUL DEAD!!! I mean seriously. But without us, they wouldn't be where they are either. We all help to change eachothers lives one way or other. They give us great music and we go see it and buy it and enjoy it. I know there are a lot of other musicians who charge a shitload of money and don't care about their fans, only about themselves, and the one thing that the Dead were always so good about was being part of what the Dead community is all about; HELPING EACHOTHER OUT. Whether they want to admit it, they are putting it to us. $105 plus service charges to get a good seat at Shoreline. That sucks guys! Really, it does. I still love the guys, but I really am kind of bummed out by it. I'm not a cheap guy either. Anyhow, Peace everyone and I hope the shows are great! Seriously, have a good time for me.

I agree that the ticket stuff could have been more perfectly executed but that's alright. I've felt kicked in the nuts before by GDTS in years past when I took care of things early and often so I'm acutally really happy right now! Virtual tickets in my imaginary pocket with a whole lot of anticipatory expectations ... with all the stuff going on in the world isn't this wonderful to look forward to? Loving the possibilities and potential! The love you get is the love you give ... so let's give a bunch of it! Peace to you all ...

Dead Freaks Unite If all goes well and I'm pretty sure things will.. They'll tour this summer... They wouldn't go thru all this and not... Also they are hardly playing in many areas...Midwest, Northwest, Southeast... Mountain areas of Co. (Red Rocks would be perfect these days)... They're just getting ready... Only problem this may be it... We're all getting on and I feel for the younger 'Dead Freaks' ... (that's what they use to call us...) This summer may be the end... I would love one more and they love to play, so who knows... Looks like everyone (the boys) have grown the last 10+ years and if it keeps up who knows... John Lee Hooker checkout John Lees site about 'change' http://www.johnleehookerjr.com/, Willie (Nelson 76yrs young) are still playing but then again it really only one person that makes those shows goes... So lets all behave this spring and maybe they play this summer and the boys may make it back another year... Know better way to stay young... Peace and Love ... and One more Saturday night... ;) ...

Bill K was right in 95 when he said, "Without Jerry there is no Grateful Dead." But these shows will be the closest anyone on the planet can still get to, "There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert!" The band seems to be putting in a lot of time practicing and rehearsing. So expect tight, consistent musicianship, excellent jams and eventually a high-quality album/video. It’s unlikely any of these concerts will be a dud. That said, the online pre-sale fiasco was a disgrace and a stain on the band's legacy. It's not about $100 ticket prices. It's about fairness. A week before this highly promoted event, legal online resale outlets were already posting tickets for specific available seating for $400 - $1,500. The Dead should be pissed off about their fans getting ripped off by the company they chose to distribute tickets. If they’re not, then the Grateful Dead family spirit is history and they are just players in another oldies cover band.

I moved back the South Jersey 4 1/2 years ago. The Spectrum in Philadelphia is closing this year. I have been to many shows over the years. The most memorable was Watkins Glen. I had to park somewhere between 10-20 miles away. It was at night the day before the show and I was determined to get there so I started walking eventually getting picked up by some car that was in the sealed off perimeter. Now I have come full circle back to the original arena where I saw my first show. I was 16 in 1967 and walked into a head shop in Philadelphia. I didn't know who or what the Dead were. I saw a poster on the wall that said Grateful Dead with a picture of group. I leafed through some copies of the Oracle, bought some buttons and left. A couple of years later a show started on an FM station in Philly called the Marconi Experiment, the DJ was Dave Herman. He played a song called Dark Star. That's when I found out who the Grateful Dead were. I have been hooked ever since. I remember a girl I met at Temple University in Philadelphia telling me she had seen 5 hour + shows in New York. When it was announced that Dead were coming to Philadelphia in 1972 I made it my business to attend my first show. I only wish I knew enough about them when they played The Electric Factory in 68 and 69. You have to understand that they didn't play that music on the radio in our city until the Marconi Experiment. It wasn't San Francisco. It sucks getting old but there will never be period of music creativity again like there was from Sixties starting with Beatles to the Mid Seventies. You will never see a group like the Dead again. The music business has changed. What we believe in has changed. The causes have changed. Hard to imagine that tickets at the Fillmore and The Carousel Ballroom were only a couple of dollars. The Dead are only charging based on the what the demand is. It's not cheap to put shows on these days. Is $95 a ticket plus service charges a little excessive, probably. I'm paying it. The last time the Dead appeared at The Spectrum was 1995. My first show they played 14 songs the first set. 13 songs the second set and One More Saturday Night for the Encore. No drums, Space but a 37 Minute Dark Star. See you at the show.

I'd be happier to be paying less for a seat to a show this time around, but that's not what's happening and each one of us has to decide how much financial pain we're willing to endure. I was just looking at the VIP packages and they remind me a lot of the pricing I saw on the last Rolling Stones tour. The face value on seats in the first 26 rows at most Stones shows in '05-'06 was $450! My wife, daughter and I bought tickets for the 28th row for $175 apiece and folks told us we'd practically stolen them. I guess it's all relative, but it seemed like a chunk of cash at the time. I also remember that tickets to a show in Foxboro, MA late in the last Stones tour weren't selling all that well and all of a sudden a loge section opened up at $22.50 a pop! I called everyone I knew in the Boston area to let them know. Maybe, just maybe something like that will happen this Dead tour as well and folks will get to find an inexpensive ticket. I hope so. Good luck. "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose
