I mean I understand we're all in tough times right now, but I still don't think $50.00 is unreasonable for a show, even $89.50 which is the reserved seating at the venue I'm going to. Any show you go to now days is at least $50 and like some of the members have said above, it's the Dead. For me it's more about the chance to see them for possibly the last time, all together on stage doing what makes me love & appreciate them so much. And I get the frustration over the prices and not being able to go to multiple shows because of it, but hey, if you can at least get to one...I just don't see how it's not worth it? I said it yesterday and I'll say it again, I'm just so thankful that I will get to see them one more time in my lifetime..even if I have to sit way up in the nose bleed section. So let's try and stay positive...we've got one more day until pre-sale starts so let's just relax and see what happens. Positive thoughts brothers and sisters...positive thoughts. On that note, I hope everyone has a grate day...chat with all later!!!!

Um, yes, the good old days of cheap tickets and 100+ shows a year. How many musicians did that chew up and spit out? No thanks. The Dead don't provide the whole ride any more. They are one stop for your bus. Keep yer head.

These ticket prices are outrageous! And the word I hear is that the lower price tickets are for behind the stage. So you could be spending $100 on nosebleed tickets. (please confirm this elsewhere, but it seems to be true at least for the Nassau show)

After reading several posts all I can say is it's the DEAD man. God willing we will always make more money. I work for a non-profit so I know money can be tight. I'm going, period. This may be the last time, this may be the last time, maybe the last time I don't know. It's about the music, the feeling inside that makes you want to dance, dance, dance. Spin around to the music and bounce around to the drums. The joy it brings me to experience that feeling again brings tears to my eyes. Of course I'd love for them to come to the south, but oh well. They have their individual bands and tour all over and it's the main source of income for their band mates. Can we really be that selfish to ask them to keep their employees un-employed in this economy? We go where we can, when we can and be thankful.

This economy left me laid off from my job in August at which time I started my own business. While the business is getting me by, the economy has gotten much worse since then. Living in Georgia, I was still a little miffed about having to drive to Greensboro to catch a show (with no Jerry), but I insisted to all my friends that I would be going to Greensboro by myself if I had to. Also, how can the Dead justify playing a venue like MSG at this time? Why not pick a smaller venue with more dates (Like Nokia) and spread the tour out to more areas so the tour is about the Heads and not just about the fact that the Boys can stand on the same stage together.Well, during the process of waiting for the details of this tour to materialize, Phish announced their new tour with ticket prices much more reasonable, tour dates much closer to home and in small as well as big venues. I feel that I have burdened my wife already with my employment status over the last several months and I just can't justify being selfish enough to take off on my own to Greensboro. My wife and I will be at the Asheville Phish show come Spring.

Better than the worst talk show. I have 3 kids, my husband just lost his job, not a trust fund baby, and think that the 178. I paid for 3 bad tickets to Chicago wasn't bad, who needs sets anyway. Hope everyone that is going has a safe and happy trip!

To all those who are so excited about this tour and think anyone balking at a $100 ticket is out of touch with reality, come talk to me after the shows and see how you feel. What I've heard and seen about the Penn show this fall and NYE is not too encouraging. I'll be at Worcester, but I'm more excited about the $25 ticket I just bought to see NRPS at a very small club in NH on March 1!!! And on a positive note...as someone said on another forum, the higher up you are in an arena, the closer you are to Jerry!!!!

I haven't had time to read all the posts, I know I'm not alone in my situation. I got into the tix site at 9:05am. By the time I hit the "process order" button, it was 9:23am. Instead of getting my receipt and tix, I got a screen that said my ticket order had timed out, empty cart, start over. Anger, plenty. Disappointment. You bet. Confusion. Yes. The Dead have been doing ticket sales for a long, long time. How could this have gone so poorly? I have no problem with ticket prices. I do have a problem with ineptitude. Peace

Teamearth: "Borin' Warren" - that's a funny one. Look man it's kinda mean though. So you feel "a little kicked in the teeth after the fact"? Like you didn't know borin' Warren was on the bill before you decided to buy tickets? Look, I'm hoping they get real hot and tight by the middle of the tour. The New Year's show was great but the playas had been playing together a lot leading up to the gig. I see what you're saying about getting crappy seats though. That probably should happen in a fan pre-sale. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * -enjoyin' the ride -There'll never be another Jerry

As a momma of a young family who is struggling, I was completely bummed yesterday to find out my only option was paying $100 for a ticket to go back to one of our fav venues - Albany, NY... it'll always be "The Knick" to me. I was really shocked to see ticket prices. Of course I think seeing The Dead is worth $100, but what is going on??? I expect this from Eric Clapton or The Eagles or something..... When everyone in America seems to be having money troubles, why are tickets priced so high? I know I can't be the only one in this boat. Now my husband and I have to flip for who goes.....just doesn't seem right.

I'm really excited about the tour. I was able to get tickets for Nassau, but I couldn't get tickets for Madison Square Garden. The worst part is all the tickets that are already available on ebay, golden ticket, and stubhub. How were these scalpers able to get these tickets through pre-sale? What BS. I sent a money order to GDTS, so I hope that comes through. I will probably stand in line to get the tickets at the box office. How early should I show up? The ticket prices are what they are. They were $50 in 1990, and there has definitely been inflation. In some ways, I don't mind since I like the Dead at smaller venues. Really loved Phil Lesh and Friends. Plus, I've spent money on stupider things. Just don't want to pay a scalper $250 for nose-bleed seats. After reading Phil's book, I realize that the money does support a whole bunch of people, that I really don't mind chipping in to support.

Perspective People... Check this out.. 1. Madonna- $306 2. Eagles - $234 3. Billy Joel - $224 4. Bon Jovi - $217 5. AC/DC - $210 6. Hannah Montana - $209 7. Celine Dion - $198 8. Neil Diamond - $193 9. Bruce Springsteen - $191 10. Michael Buble - $189 Above are the top 10 average ticket prices for 2008......... MY QUESTION IS, HOW ARE THE EVENTS SELLING...ARE THE VENUES 3/4 FULL, SOLD OUT, ETC, WHAT's THE DEAL? AND FYI....THESE ARE FACE VALUE AMOUNTS.....GO TO STUBHUB.COM AND LOOK AT THE PRICES THE DEAD SHOWS ARE ALREADY GOING FOR.....CRAZY! AND FINALLY....http://musictoday.com/ is OWNED BY LIVE NATION WHOSE STOCK IS OFF OVER 70% ON THE YEAR.....TKT SALES CAN'T BE THAT GREAT!

I, for one, am overjoyed despite the frustrations with the server crash. Hey, it happens. sucks, but it happens (i know, i work with servers every day) but you curse the dreaded computer gods, deal and get on with it. How some people can blame the band for this is way beyond me... Anyway... I ended up with tickets (total of 4) for 3 shows (Worcester, NYC, Hartford) and didn't think twice about the money...not because i don't have to, but because i decided that i could, and would make this a priority at this point in time. Lucky, yes, I suppose so. Stupid? probably that too but like someone else said above... you only live once ...and nothing makes me happier than being at a show, so you do what you can to make it happen. Sometimes it works out, sometimes life dictates otherwise. It worked out for me this time around so yes, i'm pretty damn psyched. The fact is, the prices didn't surprise me in the least and was actually pleased it wasn't more. I live in CT so i'm used to paying out the nose for everything including concert tickets and Saturday night hotel rooms in NYC... and God knows they could command a hell of a lot more than 100.00 per ticket and still sell out in less than an hour so again, i choose to look at the bright side. seriously, have you people been going to rock shows lately? maybe a reality check is in order. So to all those who feel a need to bitch and moan about everything.. and it's mother, please... either relax and enjoy the ride, or get off the bus at the next stop. And to all those happy and grateful fellow heads (real dead heads) who are on this site for all the right reasons, I look very forward to enjoying the magic with with all of you!!! My wish for all of you that are frustrated and angry is that there really is a reason for it. You have every right to be angry and upset, and please feel free to be. I can't change my past, and I can only create a better future. I have not gotten what I wanted at many junctions in my life. Many times on my own accord (decisions I have made) and many times on others accords. If I got everything I wanted, every time I wanted it, I would not be here today. One thing I will say is that....Every word spoken has a future. None of us really wish bad things upon others...We are all good at heart! If we don't see you at the show or on Shakedown Street...Please find a night this spring where you feel giddy and turn your stereo up way to loud, and dance like tomorrow will never come, and realize what the rhythms and beats mean to you! It is inside each and everyone of us!

Positive vibes still in L.A. where parking in my nieghborhood is now at $2.00 hour, lunch costs me $20.00, dinner is around $75.00, gas is a nice $2.19/gallon, parking at the forum will be about $25.00 and i still make $10.00 an hour. No, I don't think the Dead are greedy old men, LiveNation sucks and I have said that since there appearance not long ago. This economy sucks and it's not the fault of anyone here, (unless you voted for Bush) but that's another story. A night out at the nightclub will run you at least 100 bucks. I found a great hat yesterday, it was 120 bucks. You guys complaining need to grow up and dont try sayin you 55 or whatever. Its a new world we are on the verge of. Prices are up everywhere. that it is grate that the boys want to get together and make some noise with us again. And as far as the price, it would be wonderful if it was cheaper, but as others have so deftly displayed, this is NOT the highest priced ticket around. I really think that the difficulties with securing tickets were far more upsetting to most heads. I am excited for all of you that got tickets and will be out to see the band (especially you tigerlily!!). Soon the circus will be on the road, and that in and of itself is cause for celebration. Horray for you all that are going to get there. And for all of us that aren't, hey maybe there will be a summer tour, or even a fall run. Ain't gonna morn about these turn of events, it is time to dance. The Truth is realized in an instant, the act is practiced step by step.

The presale was a complete disaster, we all agree on that. The ticket prices are more then we remember paying, that's the way it is. It's not 68, 77, 82, 90 anymore, it is now 2009 & I feel lucky that there is another opportunity to experience the experience again. There won't be many more, that I'm sure of... To those who couldn't get tickets yesterday, don't give up... I missed the Neil Young Massey Hall presale last year & pulled 6th row center on the regular release date. That was a tough ticket to get & I ended up 5 rows in front of Gordon Lightfoot! I can guarantee that there are still plenty of tickets out there & some very good 1's at that... To those who can't or won't swallow the $100 ticket, it's simple - don't go. I feel for ya' but I bet that if you dropped all or a few of your respective vices for a month, you would come up w/ more then a 100, I know I'll have to drop a few... Keep it cool in here, there's enough BS goin' on everywhere else, we don't need anymore... Long May You Run Everyone.

Mandomamma, I am frequent visitor to this site, especially the Vine area which has enabled me to greatly expand my collection of shows. Most of the people on the site are cool and really add to the site, like CC EOJ. The downright infantile venom being sprewed on this forum is not the norm. Most of these people only came on the site to buy tickets. Most of the time, while there is a decent amount of criticism, the posts are civil and sometimes illuminating. In sum, don't let the rantings of people who cannot express themselves in a mature or intelligent manner prevent you from enjoying what this site has to offer most of the time. I need some basic information on taper equipment. I Mail Ordered for taper tickets for 7 different locations, but have never taped before. Trolling around the net hasnt gotten me any valuable info yet but I will keep at it. Anything anyone could help with is appreciated. I was also told that tapers are permitted to plug directly into the sound boards. Is this true? What is a good affordable microphone? Should I go cordless? Do people usually record analog and convert to digital? Whats the best way to protect equipment when weather isnt good? What extra equipment is usually needed ie. extension cords, certain kinds of tape, backup mic, etc etc? 42% of all statistics are made up.

First off, there's no way they're going to let you plug into the board. If this is like the last couple tours by The Dead, they will be selling soundboard recordings either at the show or afterwards on the Web site. Here's some helpful info though from philzone.com: 10 Commandments of Live Taping Jeff Frank 1. Show up early. You might as well be wearing billy-bob teeth when you walk up with your deck right before showtime. You look that stupid. 2. Get good cables. Core Sound's cable works at home (I have one), but is not reliable in the field. $100 for an Oade passive is money well spent. Get a good coax cable too. 3. Get a rechargeable battery or at least use good batteries. Battery changes between sets are a royal pain in the ass. It usually involves disconnecting the chain and putting it back together. 4. Try to spark up some kind of conversation before asking for a patch. Tapers love to talk about their gear. Ask how they like their pre-amp. Ask what shows they were at. Something other than "Hey man, got a line out?". BUT DO NOT BOTHER THEM WHILE THEY'RE SETTING UP! 5. Offer to handle grovellers. 6. Offer to watch the rig for awhile. 7. Offer to go on a water or beer run. 8. I hate to say it, but upgrade from that minidisc. 9. Try to have extra tapes and batteries. There are always people around that need them. It's nice to be the one who can save the day and what goes around comes around. 10. Offer to hang around if bodies are needed to shield the section from the masses, but make yourself scarce if there isn't much room. Also, go to the TAPERZONE section at philzone.com for more help. Good luck! "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose
