Well....How to put into words. I just finished seeing both Shoreline shows and the Gorge. My last experience with any Dead members was Phil and Friends w/Bob Dylan at the Gorge in 2000, before that was West Coast 1995 ending with the last Jerry show in the Bay Area at Shoreline. I was thrilled, to say the least...every aspect went off without a hitch. The shows were fantastic, better musically then I could have dreamed. Each show had a stellar highlight, but if I had to chose a favorite, I would say the first Shoreline show. Help/Slip/F.T opener, and we knew we were in for a nice ride. Too much to relay and reflect on...so I will just say, take what Mickey said to heart...take this good feeling out into our communities...build on the dream...live your life like the planet depended on you.

I'm sure I"m not the only one, but after listening all night on Saturday and hearing Phil do his donor rap, then hearing Mickey come out and thank the crew...I just couldn't help but feel sad that this tour was done. Like the others before me - THANK YOU BOYS FOR A REAL GOOD TIME. I can't even put into words what this band and this community means to me, and I just feel extremely blessed to be a part of it. Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!~Tam

i had an event AFTER the show, that ruined it for me, i held off ofr 5 days, to get it resolved, but.... my wife got sick at shoreline, RockMed, the heros they are, got my wife to ambulance, right after the encore, i bought wristband, picked up CD in time, b4 ambulance left, well... the 3rd disc dont play, i missed the 2nd half of 2nd set 2x sofar. the CD only has dead.net listed as contact info, they tell me on phone they dont FIX venue sold items. WHO DOES?? how do i get the 1/3rd of this show i paid for, and the recording wont play? why does it take 5 days for dead.net to still not have answers for me on how to replkace this disc, other then REBUYING the download for $15 more!! this is what the opperator told me, at dead.net i didnt buy a download, i bought a concert bought, pressed CD. i spent good cash for it, all i want is what i paid for, thank you. if not, return my $25 for this half a show, and i will stop going to shows alltogether. me and my wife collectively have over 200 shows behind us, this is the ONLY bad exp i got from 20+ years of going to your shows. is it so hard to step up, and give a bit of service to those who pay your bills, lines your pocket, the fans.

    My highlights
Nice story Supertacks! As I sit in a hotel in Montana, 500 miles from home I am still dazed. We had so much fun and I felt like I did 20 years ago. Being stuck in the rat race I really needed this tour for many reasons and on many levels beyond just seeing a concert. Here are some of my highlights of my 10 days of craziness: * Walking into the Pepsi Center and everyone is just going nuts - hooting and hollering, we weren't even inside yet!! * The Denver acoustic set and especially Deep Elem Blues was so so good * Taking my daughter and wife to Shoreline for the 20 anniversary of my first show at ... Shoreline!! What a feeling dancing with my little girl in the same place I first danced 20 years ago * Help Slip Franklin opener ... St Stephen the 11 encore * SHOOT!! Couldn't make it to LA but from what I heard from folks in the lots it was super sick. * Now on to Shoreline May 14. This show folks was so good. The best post-Jerry show by faaaaaar. And I would say maybe one of the top 10 Grateful Dead /The Dead shows ever. Seriously I will stand here and defend that statement that it was was one of the best shows I have EVER seen. You can read my earlier review but when they were playing Fire all of Shoreline was in one wave of cosmic trippy dancing it was so beautiful and it reminded me of back in the day * Getting a 70 year old super cool lady high for her first time at Shoreline * The fire dancers doing their thing to Mickey's thunder * Seeing the Gorge *Hearing Dire Wolf and Althea and Eyes * I will say this about the Gorge though - it was like the boys finished shoreline and were like "oh shit we still have to play the gorge" * I am a new huge fan of Warren he had me in tears several times this tour. Just as one girl was shouting as she marched through the campground at the Gorge - "Warren - Motherfucking - Haynes!!! ORDER OF MY FAV SHOWS: 1.2ND SHORELINE 2. DENVER 3. 1ST SHORELINE 4. GORGE Thanks for a real good time and please come on tour again!! Can't wait for Ratdog this summer! Thank you all for your wonderful vibes!!! I felt them!! "Escaping through the lily fields, I came across an empty space. It rainbow then exploded, left a bus stop in its place. The bus come by and I got on, thats when it all began. It was Cowboy Neal at the wheel of the bus to never ever land"

    Closing thoughts on the
Closing thoughts on the Spring Tour I am 45 now. Up until 04 I had not been to a “Dead” show or derivative of since 90 or 91. I was 27, 28’ish in 91. I caught on at age 18-19 at City Island in Harrisburg in 82 but didn’t get going until 83. Back then I was still wondering around aimlessly not even understanding that I had not found my niche in life yet. I knew I was not confident within certain groups or types of people and in certain situations but beyond that was just a punk kid. I was going to lots of different types of conerts back then and none hit me like a Grateful Dead show. The reason was that this was one place I could go where I felt I was not being judged by anyone and had no expectation to live up to. Of course I did not realize that then, but that was really the thing for me that made it a great place to go. I gre up during that period and carried on until 91. i took in 100+ plus shows in the time. Fast forward to 04. I went to see The Dead at Montage Mountain for Nostalgic purposes. They were 20 minutes from my house so it was low maintenance. It was great fun and the music was good. If I had to go further I would have said fuck it. I didn’t go there with the high expectations or expecting it to be like it used to be. I had a great time, got home to bed, and was asleep by 11:30. I listened to Jack Johnson the next day. Fast forward to 08. A good bud works at the Bryce Jordan in State College and emails me way ahead of public knowledge telling me the Dead are doing an Obama benefit. I figured fuck it I’ll go. I got tickets, then totally realized the historic significance of the show among the community, but it wasn’t that big a deal to me. I get to the show and am blown away. November 08 – The Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre is a small and beautiful theater in WB. They are my client. Bob Weir is doing a show there and my phone rings that morning. It’s the promoter, he is having computer problems and needs help. I say “Let me grab my hat and I’ll be right there” They are across the street from my office so I am onsite in 4 minutes. I casually let him know I was at the Bryce Jordan show and he smiles and says let me put two comps at Will Call for you tonight. I had no plans on going. My wife goes with me and the show is killer. Fast forward to Spring 09 The economy is in the shitter, I know of 5 or 6 people who have lost their jobs who are extremely talented. There is little good news and everyone is stressed to the max. The Tour is announced and The Dead books Wilkes-Barre. That’s my building, I do ALL the tech work there so of course I gotta go. WB has no idea what they are in for and don’t open the lot until 4. It’s a full fledge spring tour so the busses were dusted off, tuned up and the caravan is in high gear. The community sets up in the Walmart parking lot up the street. The scene is small but cool. Same ole, same ole, but has a really different feel than the 04 show. The 04 show felt like a reunion show for nostalgic purposes only. This was different. The show itself was good, not great, but good enough for me to check out some other shows online. As it turns out the WB set list was my least favorite of the tour so far. I start to get the itch to go to Philly where I didn't miss a show through the 80's Fuck me. We get in town at 2:00 and it’s just going off. I find myself saying stuff and hearing stuff that hasn’t entered even my most remote thoughts in 20 years. As soon as we pull in I looked at my bro-in-law and said “Lets pour a beer and head over to Shakedown Street for some eats” I am immediately floored because I haven’t thought about Shakedown in that wqay forever. I talked to too many people to count. Many now corporate guys with old shirts on and many hippies, some that came in community busses just like the old days. No one is talking about the economy, Iraq, school shootings, swine flu, the crime rate, the financial crisis, GM, Chrysler, housing, none of it. Everyone is smiling, speculating on the final Set List for the Spectrum. There is much talk of the first “Dew” on the tour. Much talk of the first "Samson and Delilah” on the tour. I had my Hershey 85 shirt on. No less than 20 people stopped me to talk about Terrapin in the rain. There was tie dye, crystals, falafel, burritos, balloons, curry, BO, Patchoulie, much sweet smelling smoky stuff etc. All the symbolic stuff was point on. The vibe was just incredible. If they tour again I will be there. At 45 what I got out of it was every bit as fun as it used to be. I was not there to cut loose without fear of judgment like back in the old days. My life is well defined now and I am comfortable in my skin. But it was soul cleansing and therapeutic to rinse off the stress of everything going on in my 45 year old world. There was this total sense of release from everyone there who was doing the same thing. After just one afternoon and evening . . . (Got home and 3:00 a.m., shower was mandatory) asleep at 3:30 and still woke up Sunday morning feeling more relaxed and fresh than after a week’s vacation and I still feel that today. I haven't listened to anything but the Dead since May 2nd. I DL'ed every show on this tour, stayed up way too late checking out the streams, met tons of new peeps online and have just had a blast. I think we get so caught up in our lives, families, children, responsibilities, and the expectations everyone around us sets for us, that it’s hard to do stuff like this without feeling irresponsible. I am fortunate in that I have a wife who urges me to go have some fun and blow off some steam. I pick and choose very carefully where I use these opportunities and only use the hall pass once or maybe twice a year. He'll I don't even golf. She knows this, so when I bring something up she knows it’s for real. It’s so nice to be able to do something you know, really puts your wife out for a day and she is still supportive and encouraging. There is still nothing like a Dead Show. If several circumstances did not happen that made it easy or convenient for me to get re-acquainted I never I would have. I am not sorry there are more shows on this tour I can’t go too, but truly appreciate the ones I did. I am back in the daily grind now, and the grind is rolling off me like water on a well waxed car. It is so amazing to me that this scene evolved the way it did, and survived. If you look at the era in which we live, it is one of the most unusual occurrences going and I am honored and blessed to have had the opportunity to particpate. God bless the Grateful Dead and everyone that is a part of it. You people are as much responsible for this as the music. I will miss this tour, can't wait for the news of another, and am off to have another grate day!

DRUMHEAD. Did you get your name from banging your head against the wall as a child? Stopped counting after my 500th show. Don't need some poser who didn't even see Jerry telling me about the Dead. The Greedful Dead(Phil, Bob, Mickey and Billy) are in it for the money only. If you want to be played for a fool, that's your problem, not mine. Never saw Phish.

You probably complained at all 500+ shows about the ticket prices so whats changed. 1969 Damn 5 bucks for the dead what a ripoff 1979 Damn 10 bucks for the dead what a ripoff 1989 Damn 20 bucks for the dead what a ripoff 1999 Damn 50 bucks for "the other ones" what a ripoff 2009 Damn 100 bucks for the dead what a ripoff Like I said in a previous post, Leave the yurt and the commune for a few minutes. You'll see nothing is cheap. Not that it really matters as you probably complain about the prices of everything. Gas, electricity, beer, smoke. Better yet stay on the commune as no one on here wants to hear 1 single word of complaint from you.

AWEST27 - Mean People Suck! Ever wonder why JGB didn't quite get the Dead sound. Hey they sounded great and I loved JGB but it's Jerry, And Bob, And Phil, And Billy, And Mickey that made the Grateful Dead. It was a musical conversation between the 5 of them along with whichever keyboard player they had. The bus came by and I got on... again! If the bus stopped for you when Jerry died then so be it. But doggin' on 4/5's of The Grateful Dead because ticket prices are higher... Please take your negative comments somewhere else.

Don't be so jealous of the fact that I saw the REAL dead, not the Greedful Dead. Bobby, Phil, Mickey and Billy were counting on fools like you. Way to go.

"I have no problem with ticket prices. I do have a problem with ineptitude."--tuned88 My sentiments exactly. I got through to the ticket order page (no waiting room) 15 minutes after the sale started. I tired to order ONE ticket for MSG floor. it said that it could not fufill my request, try a lower number of tickets (which would have been ZERO, heh heh) or try a different section. I got the same response for the 100 section. I don't think the floor or the 100 section sold out in the first 15 minutes, although it's possible. I just think that the site was totally inadequate and unprepared for this presale, which is confirmed by the stories here. I particularly feel sorry for the people who were on the cusp of getting their tickets, only to be told that they had timed out, through no fault of their own. So I sent in a MO to GDTS TOO for my shot at one ticket to MSG.

DRUMHEAD What about "Don't need some poser who didn't even see Jerry telling me about the Dead" did you not understand. These chumps are NOTHING w/o Jerry. Anyone who would be stupid enough to argue that never saw the Grateful Dead. Do you think they would have broken up if Bobby died? No way. Sorry that you never got to see the Grateful Dead. Tough break.

What is your problem with yurts and communes? If people choose a lifestyle they should not be mocked in this forum. Please stick to the topic and stop insulting people because you disagree with the type of life they choose. I thought part of being involved in this scene was to be open to others and not judge them. GRANTED Trey is no Jerry, but lets not knock phish, their music is alot different from the dead, they have there own style like rusred root, or string cheese ..etc... Any dead head should appriciate all types of music. I personally like phishes music, not to pleased with the crowd though, ive been to 3 phish shows and been ripped off in parking lot all three times. I dont hold it against the band though, truth of the matter is theres no LOVE in the crowd. PHISH IS NOT A DEAD SHOW!!!!!!!!! If any guppys are hittn the dead shows, PLEASE leave your BUNK items at home, this is a grateful tour, BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER, tickets are exspensive enuff, no sense in wasting money in the parking lot on something thats not real!! (YOU REAL HEADS KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT)

So... It's been 14 years since my last Dead show - I saw Mickey once a few years ago, and that was cool, but have spent more time being a parent and struggling to get by than being a DeadHead and getting down over the years. So I got pairs of "well, at least I'm in the show" tix for Fri in Albany and Sun in Worcester. Just physically didn't have the bread to get the good seats. so I am in the nose bleeds in Albany and side stage in Worcester. Yeah the price is too high for any band, let alone a "Dead" band without Jerry and who are pushing 70... but reading the hate and anger here I am a little horrified. Geez folks - these guys let us take their music and trade it for free for over three decades. Think about the money they lost doing that. Seriously... how many people here own a (purchased) copy of Built to Last or Go to Heaven? How many have at least several hundred hours of FREE bootlegs? I still have my Maxells and I still listen to them... When we were all on tour with these guys playing concerts is not how you made money in the music business folks - it is what you did to market your record sales, but we - the whole circus - did things differently, and they fed our fever with constant touring. Think about all the time they spent on the road - they "gave all they had to give, - how much WE'LL never know". There are other factors to consider too... I was at the Albany shows the last time the Grateful Dead played there and it was a mess. An embarrassing mess. I am sure the city of Albany is getting chunk of the pot, and I bet police will be out in force and security will be tight. Another thing to consider is that this is not a single band right now, and the band that will be playing has several different members that each have their own agents, etc. - Blaming the price on Bob is just incredibly outrageously unfair. I remember when ticket prices hit the 30.00 mark I was stunned, but I paid them and I went, and danced and sang, and soothed my soul. That 30 bucks was a greater percentage of my income at the time than even the 100 would be for me now, but perspectives change and so my wife and mother-in-law pitched in to buy tix for two shows for me as a birthday present. They got two tix for each night so I can bring my 15 year old son who has always wished he could have seen them. So I got Miracled - sort of - and it is just sinking in, that feeling I haven't felt in so long - I am going to see the DEAD I couldn't sleep last night...I remember thinking 14 years ago that I would give everything I owned and a couple fingers to see them one more time. Cheap at any price.

Tickets are a tad exorbitantly high and that's an issue this first time back. Maybe they'll come around again and heed some of what they are hearing and come down a bit but it is what it is and we all will have to adjust accordingly. Of and did I say stfu in advance? And that I love the Grateful Dead? Oh, OK, yes I do. Thanks. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * -enjoyin' the ride -There'll never be another Jerry

Only looking at ticket prices-- How can you not compare the Dead and The Phish. Both are doing a return to glory tour, both have deep roots in the community and both are what pretty much drive the community these days. Who else is bigger or was bigger then the Phish or the Dead?? So for one band who is all accounted for to charge 49.50 and the other who is missing a key element and has thus been replaced by Borin' Warren of all people (WTF!!!???!!!) to charge 75 it just seems as though someone screwed up big time. oops, there goes the boat, I messed up.

I've been reading the posts over the last couple of days about the shows and who's worthy and who saw how many shows. It's not about how many you saw, but how much you appreciated the ones you did see. If you don't want to pay 100 bucks for a ticket, then don't buy one and leave the seats for those of us happy to get in the door. Jerry was precious, but the dead would not have been the dead without Jerry, Bobby, Phil, Mickey, and Billy. You can add your choice of Pigpen, Keith and Donna, Vince, Hornsby etc., each was an intregal part in being the band we all know and love. Remember the definition of the Grateful Dead, and why the guys chose it to begin with. It's about Karma, it's about love, and it's about music. Standing in any arena, amphitheatre, or staduim and hearing EVERYONE in the place clap and sing NFA to the band until they come back for encore is something that you can't explain till you've been there. There was a long time when I couldn't listen to the boys because it hurt too much to miss them. After a good friend got me in to see Phil at the Nokia on Halloween, I've had my favorite shows shuffling for months. It's good to be back, and I'll take it any way I can get it. See you in Chicago and MSG.

Awest27 says:When did you see the Grateful Dead? Never as a band but saw all the others hundreds of times. Actually I was hanging with Bobby about 2 years ago at a Ratdog show. And not in some fan experience but as the promoter of the Concert. I am not JUST a Jerry Fan. I am a Grateful Dead Fan. Similarly I even enjoy a DSO show or The Schwag. What are you even doing here anyway? Didn't you just write this: With Jerry gone, who cares about the other leeches who he carried for 30 years.

Forget it jayhawkfrank - Awest27 is just a bitter old soul. I guess in his mind since he's seen 500+ shows that it equates to having more of an authoritarian view of things. It has to be that the boys are a bunch of greedy leeches and that we're a bunch of losers or else he'd be wrong in his sad view of his current state of being. Let him live in the past and give him what he needs... A Big Hug!

Spring may not work out but the fact they're out there gives me hope for humanity. My 1st show was St.Louis in 1970, and even though I will try Chicago, if I don't make it I'll be grateful for all those who do. I mean, they're so many DH's that haven't ever seen the boys, so if my missed seat goes to one of those folks, I'll be dancin' just because of that. Cash back at the pump In the past five months gasoline prices have dropped 56%, from an average price of $4.11 to $1.80 a gallon. Somehow, households found the money to pay the higher price and survive so now people should take that excess money they are saving and bank it. 2. Supper savings Americans will spend an average of $34 this year every time they go out to eat dinner, that's for one dinner, drink and gratuity; $76.00 if they live in one of the 20 most expensive cities. If a couple does that four times in a month the expense is close to $300 in low-cost areas and $600 in higher-cost regions, and if you have more than one drink or are treating family or friends, costs can add up quickly. 3. Renegotiate bills You may not be able to negotiate with the gas company or the electric company, but you can with credit cards, cable and phone services, among others. Do the homework and find out what competing cable companies, for example, are offering and ask your provider to renegotiate your bill. You may have to get through to a manager but Chatzky said she recently did this and got her monthly bill reduced by $50. 4. Smart shopping Retailers are poised to have one of the worst holiday shopping seasons in decades and are offering deep discounts to move merchandise. But smart shoppers can save even more money by hunting down coupons. Before ordering online or going to a store, go to sites like Couponcabin.com and Ultimatecoupons.com or Google the name of a store and often you'll get a coupon code to enter at checkout. You can save 10% to 20% or more on the total order or maybe get free shipping. There are also coupons to print out and take to the store for deeper discounts. And don't be afraid to pit one retailer against another by asking for a price match on sale items. 5. Keep the receipt It is important to hang on to all your store receipts and keep track of sales. Savvy shoppers can possibly save even more on purchases by checking back to see if the retailers lower prices even further. If that happens within two weeks of your purchase, most stores will credit you the difference. see you at the philadelphia spectrum may 2nd

All this comparison to other bands and price talk " They are not the best at what they do they are the only ones that do what they do" IMO while the "core four" have slipped somewaht recently their is NO denying that the product they deliver is awe inspiring. Case in point dating back to Bobby and Tom C at tower theater shortly after jerry passed, too SPAC july 4th in the rain, red rocks shows 03 and 04, little schoolgirl in AZ 04, Shoreline to end the 04 tour. AND yes i saw "jerry" over 75 times ...if you cup is empty... if your cup is full may it be again

Playing it right now, and its awsome. kinda resembles the early 70's shows, most of the shows are jamed out like 15 min or more. Minus jerrys singing you couldnt ask for more, it seems to be more crisp and with more energy than the last dead shows in the 90's. If its any sign of whats to be with this tour, than the music will be great. It would be cool if they did like DSO does and pick a past set list and play it, preferably from 73' since there tended to be alot of shows with 3 sets. I wasnt happy about the prices either but you wont regret it when your at the show, from now untill april is plenty of time to adjust your life style and be able to put some money back. Quit going out to eat, dont buy name brand food, hault all purchases besides bills, theres countless ways of coming up with the money. Think about the last thing you really needed or wanted but didnt really have the money to get it but you managed to aquire it. Most things are possible if you got enough gumption.

It's the 30th anniversary of this show, so I slapped it in the player. I suggest folks do the same, if only to hear Bobby explain that Phil had been taken by aliens during the intermission! The I Need A Miracle > Shakedown Street second set opener is very high energy! "When it comes to humility, I'm the greatest!" - Bullwinkle Moose

Ok, I have to put my two cents in now. Look, I've been shown the light many times through all kinds of music. That's the point....MUSIC. "People can you feel it, LOVE is in the air!" It doesn't matter if it's the Allman Bros, Phish, 311, James Brown, Big Brother and The Holding Company, Dave Matthews, Primus, (my fav) The Grateful Dead, Ratdog, Hank Williams, Ben Harper, Phil & Friends, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Merle Haggarand, The Beatles, and the list goes on and on and on! I t's not about being nasty to each other, hurling remarks to people, complaining, and projecting negative energy to rooms. That's why the Grateful Dead have shown me so much....we are all not perfect, we are all fucked up in some way, we are all good people at the same time. All of us carry a big torch showing people that you can have love for your brothers and sisters of this bright blue ball spinning, regardless of the other shit. It's about listening to the MUSIC and using what you need from it and leaving the rest. BE KIND. I actually like Phish the band....hate the parking lots and don't feel all the people there are true, but it's good music. That's why "Our" band is so special, there are dicks everywhere, but "Our" band brings us together like no one else before. "Our" band has taught many people after them to actually play music from the heart. "Our" band brings out the goo balls and grilled cheese sandwiches in people. LOVE. So please, pretty please with sugar on top show them that YOU are the EYES of the WORLD! <<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> _________________________________________________________ Will you come with me? Beavis & Butthead. You and your loser friend, jayhawkfrank, are the most hilarious imbeciles on this board. You have NEVER seen the Grateful Dead, but you have the audacity to tell others that which you did not and will not experience. Bummer. You're the ones we used to laugh at at shows. Are you sure you are not a cop? You both certainly sounds like one. jayhawkfrank - maybe you should stick to insulting those who live outside of the mainstream, like the Dead. hypocrite.

I waded through a spate of postings from the last two days and have never seen so much negative energy. Until I read your note and a few right before it, I thought I was in some sort of bizarro world, not the dead.net boards. Hope you can see a few shows in this tour. For my part, I never intended to go anywhere near the on-line pre-sales thing. A Luddite at heart, I dutifully sent off a couple of brightly-colored envelopes to the friendly crew at GDTS, and I trust they'll take care of my friends and me (we're aiming for the two shows in Philly). Ticket prices? Higher than they used to be, for sure, but what isn't? Hell, I've gotta get from MN to PA and back, so tickets are the least of the expenses I've gotta deal with. But it'll get done, one way or another. Oh well, sometimes the songs that we hear are just songs of our own! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One man gathers what another man spills...

awest - and you're the Authority of all that is known about The Grateful Dead because you've seen 500 shows. Calling Bobby, Phil, Mickey & Billy greedy leeches that Jerry carried for 30 years. Face it, You're not a Deadhead... at least not one anymore... if ever. The bus has dropped you off pal and rightfully so. You're an asshole!

Sailor, Thanks for your kind post. I get goose bumped just thinking about this Chitown show....and who knows if I make it home for Shoreline. Wish I could perchance to dream and see the boys in Philly with you! I do know, that if we were in a parking lot together the peverbial Dark Stars would align and I would meet kind people. Have fun my brother and maybe we'll find the same path to unlimited devotion. _________________________________________________________ Will you come with me?
