    12.03.79 uptown
I lived in the border town of KenoshaThis show was over three hours long. The band and the audience were feeling a little crispy for the 10:53 min. Wharf rat. The scarlet > fire intro to the second set 26 + minutes. This was an EPIC show

Donna was off the tour on maternity leave: maybe Keith and his band mates missed her:-( In addition to comments below, 12/4/73 was a short show, as the band was late by over an hour in Cinci. (Was there a weather issue getting out of Boston?) 2 nights later we had a "Feeling Groovy" China > Rider, an outstanding Here Comes Sunshine, and the monster Dark Star in Cleveland. 12/10/73 was released as a Download Series recording!

wow Wharf Rat 12/3/79 is slow
show in ChicagoI lived on the border town of Beloit WI I turned 16 this day I had no idea the GD were in Chicago my first show wasn't until 2.5 years later. Fall 79 has a lot of remarkable GD, but you can hear Jerry feeling the long-term effects of his, uh, "pony-riding".

Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we'll check out some Grateful Dead music from 1973, 1979 and 1985.

From the middle night of the terrific three night run at the Boston Music Hall in the fall of 1973, we have Greatest Story Ever Told, Not Fade Away>GDTRFB>One More Saturday Night from 12/1/73. The first and the third nights of this run were turned into the excellent Dick's Picks Vol. 14, but there was some good music played on 12/1/73 as well.

Next up from 12/3/79 in Chicago, we have the end of the second set, featuring Space>Lost Sailor>Saint Of Circumstance>Wharf Rat>Truckin', Johnny B Goode. This is from the cassette master, and has a bit of hiss, but overall these fall 1979 cassette masters sound pretty darn good.

Lastly this week we'll check out the entire first set from 11/22/85 in Oakland at the relatively small Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center, featuring Hell In A Bucket ; Sugaree ; New Minglewood Blues ; Althea ; Cassidy ; Dupree's Diamond Blues ; Let It Grow.

Be sure to stop by next week for more tunes from the vault.

I am adept at what I hear as "on" shows, and "not-on" shows. 12/1/73 sounds like a "not-on" show. To me. 12/2/73, on the other hand, is WILD "on"!!! 12/12/73 is another "not-on". 12/18/73 is SWEET!!! it should have been released instead of 12/19/73 as DP1.
