we now have 3 kids three and under. had planned on brining the whole family to shoreline to meet their extended family...but now we are thinking that we may leave the babes at home for the day. it's hard - we keep going back and forth b/c we want the kids to have the experience and to feel the love...but keeping in mind that our kids don't groove crowds or loud noises, and like to go to bed at 7pm...plus, they just wouldn't understand why jerry wasn't there....too bad they aren't playing mid-day outdoor shows

Given the time lag between pre-sale day #1 (1/13) and the start of the tour in mid-April, I'd expect the GDTS staff to start mailing tickets sometime in February. The best way to stay in the loop on this is to sign up for GDTS e-mail updates (sign up at gdtstoo.com). They're very good about sending out periodic updates to nervous 'heads that're brooding about their orders. The only downside to mail order is waiting to find out what tickets ya got (versus the 'sorta' instant gratification of on-line sales), but in my experience, the kind folks at GDTS take very good care of their customers. My friends and I have ordered from them so often over so many years that we've almost stopped being surprised when they've recognized our separate orders and issued us tangential seats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One man gathers what another man spills...

Steve-O - cmon seriously? A <2-yr old to an arena show? Is getting a babysitter you can trust an issue?Because if you can it would be better for both of you. Your kids will not get his ears blown out . And he won't really enjoy the experience that that sustained a time. And he won't remember to appreciate anyway. (There are other ways to share the god love GD head vibe with him beside bringing him inside an arena show at that age). . If you can get a sitter you can trust you'll have a much better time and will be able to enjoy the whole show too. I love it when I see people with their kids at shows. I hope to take my grandkids to their 1st show - just can't afford it right now. I would feel better about taking my grandkids to see The Dead than many of the other bands I see. I saw lots of kids at AC/DC as well as Roger Waters - I think hearing protection for kids at in door venues is a good idea. My hearing is getting bad already. Saint Stephen with a rose. I loved Jerry and I miss him dearly, but to say that the rest of the band is just a cover band is rediculous. They play together like a well oiled machine, with or without Jerry. It's not the same without Jerry, but he died in 95 and it's time to move on. Phil, Bob, Mickey, and Billy have every right in the world to carry on as The Dead!! My OpinionPeace

I will be traveling East from Denver for 6 shows; Buffalo, Wilkes Barre, Uniondale, MSG, Hartford, and East Rutherford. Any local places to gather before the shows or are people just going to be in the arena parking lots? Would appreciate some local tips! Also, any local campgrounds or local tips where I can "Rest my bones" at the end of the night?

When Jerry died I heard the news on my way to work. I was totally devastated, and I guess looked it when I walked in the door. The first person I saw was our HR mgr who was 12-13 yrs younger than I. When she asked what was wrong, and I told her, she had this totally blank look on her face...she had NO IDEA who Jerry was, and I found that I had no words that were adequate to explain it to her. I still don't. I could write for hours and still not come close. You really do have to let the music talk for itself.

I see so much excitement in the posts, but it's clear that they were all made before the prices were announced. I've spent over 500 dollars in the last 18 months on dead stuff, direct from the site. I bought all the new releases, box sets, and other special stuff (often more than one copy to give as gifts). I didn't do this because I had to - everyone knows that it's unbelievably easy to find high quality recordings on the internet for free. But I don't ( or didn't) b/c I felt that was disrespectful to the band. But you know what's disrespectful? Charging 100 dollars for tickets in the middle of a recession. So much for doing a 6 night run like I wanted to. It's clear that the remaining members have lost all grasp of the ideals that they started and promoted more than 40 years ago. I'm ashamed for showing them so much respect when they clearly care very little about respecting the fans.

Obviously there is no adequate way to fully describe what it was like to be at a show or be a Deadhead. However, I think the Grateful Dead Movie is a pretty good historical record, and may help to shed some light on what the scene was about. "Let there be songs to fill the air."

When Jerrry passed away I had just come home from work and turned on the tv. The channel was on CNN and there was a picture of Jerry and the reporter kept saying thing like--"He WAS, this and He WAS that" I couldn't understand why he kept using him in the past tense!! Then they flased the years from birth to death and I was completely shocked and terribly upset!! The next morning I woke up and went straight to the den to play the latest live show I had found and cried! When I went to work--I am a teacher--I tried to explain to people at work what had happened and half of them didn't even know who I was talking about and the other half didn't seem to care! The love for the Grateful Dead, Jerry, and everything associated with them is hard to explain to people who are not as "in love" as we are. And what I find so amusing is the fact that it is so easy to feel as though you have so much in common with someone who loves them like we do, even if that is the only commonality you share:)

Ticketmaster sent me an e-mail (I signed for a NYC area Dead Show alert!) saying Hartford on sale 4/23- As far as I know MSG is Sat at 10 AM. I have a My Ticketmaster account and have not received any further info on MSG show. I was ready for pre sale but got skunked! I sent mail order and would like to know if they will come before spending more needed cash with T.M. on Sat. Any ideas? I can only go to MSG show. I miss that and miss chance for 5 decades of live Dead shows!

I tried to post the email that I just received from GDTS Too regarding the status of mail order. I guess that it is too big, so here is a summary. With exception of MSG, Philadelphia (May 2), and Shoreline (reserved seats), everyone who requested tickets will get them. If you have a postmark for the first day of mail order, you have a 1 in 3 chance of tickets for MSG and Shoreline reserved. You have a 1 in 1.5 chance for Philadelphia on May 2. Here is the rest: "We are waiting for the last bit of mail postmarked the 13th to arrive before starting the ticketing process. Orders that we are unable to fill from MSG, Spectrum and Shoreline reserved will be will be returned before we start the ticketing process. Tickets will start going out in the next few weeks. ONCE upon a time there was a large population occupying a large hunk of land between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. All television and photography was in black and white because in fact black and white was all there was. Five magicians looked at this from their particular perspective near the Pacific Ocean and said, "Well, this is okay but it COULD be so much better..." With that they waved their magic music wands and suddenly the world became purple, yellow, aquamarine and even translucent. Refrigerators walked the earth and amoebas grew to the size of apes, while planes began to fly underground and moles burrowed through the air. Stars and planets reached out to shake the hands of the gobsmacked earthlings, and the cartwheel became the new ambling shuffle. This golden gleaming terrain-and-mind-enhancing music-magic continues to speel out and as of press time, it is difficult to imagine that it will ever stop.

hey guys, im a fellow lover of the grateness of the dead and i was turned on to the dead this past summer by an old dead head, who has followed these guys around almost all his life...i started hanging out with him, everyday a party you know, he taught me the dead ways, not that i didnt already know them myself, im what you might call a natural...lol...im a natural born hippie...product of my raising...i can find beauty with a sore eye, after my first concert in washington dc at the 930 club seeing dark star, the tribute band....i fell absolutely tee totally in love with them, their music, their words and the meanings behind them. i came home and started looking them up on youtube, and after a while became very familiar wtih all their songs...i love any music that has soul to it....this band is by far the best, and i only wish i could have seen jerry!! if i could go back in time, thats exactly where i'd go....when jerry was still alive and everyone was diggin the good tunes and good vibes...good souls, understanding people, the kind of people that make this world all the better to be apart of...i want to surround myself with peace loving wind breezin hippies, this past year has been rough for me and i've lost alot of confidence along the way, im ready to roll away the dew so that sweet winds can blow my way...im ready to forget my troubles and dance them away....im ready to let go of these negative people in my life and surround myself by good hearted free spirits, people like myself...i've suffered myself, by trying to help others come out of the shadows and into the light but in the end i realized i was being dragged into the dark, and drained of my energy, i used to carry the sun in my eyes and i want that feeling back....im a very sensitive but strong willed young lady and i desire most to go to atleast one show...im gonna follow my own path and ill go all to nothing to get there...im hoping i will meet alot of familiar souls...that i can connect with. This is me and this is what im about, not just the music, but whats behind the lines, sometimes you cant see the forest for the trees, but i know theres more to it than just the good tunes, its the waves of love and peaceful serenity, brotherhood, mind alternative people, who want the same things i want, i could go on and on about what could stand a change, but i wont, instead i wont worry about how to survive in the storm but instead how to dance in the rain. alot of nice things go bad out there, it sure is one big wild world!! There comes a point In ones life When you come to realize Who matters, who never did, who wont anymore, and who always will So dont worry about those people from the past Theres a reason why they did not make it to your future

Chi-town B-o-b - I thought it was an interesting read. It's a popular game among the kids today and many of us have children in the family who find this game wildly attractive. This translates into a wonderful way of introducing the little tykes to the music. I know I'm not alone regarding my belief that many folks would rather hear the kid, grandkid, etc. jamming to the Grateful Dead than the stuff playing on the commercial radio stations today. I didn't say I agreed with their reviews. Please don't shoot the messenger. One man gathers what another man spills.

i appreciate your time of day to take my situation into consideration, as for me, my name is brittney, my momma calls me lola, cause im crazy and adventurous. I have never been to a dead show, but i've watched plenty on dvd and still got off just as much...im in college now its an online course for massage therapy, im into natural healing more of a holistic view on life....i believe in a higher power, i believe we all can tap into this inner power with enough meaning behind it....i go around with a smile, instead of a frown....i try to have self control over my feelings and frustrations, i've realized that if you can find entertainment out of those so called stressful situations, you wont find your self getting upset and uptight, instead loose and fun. I live in martinsburg wv i've always been a country girl. born and raised most of my family are good county folks....i was raised on a farm around horses, and i rode alot....i miss it, and hopefully oneday i will be able to raise my future kids on a green pastured farm, i know it was fun for me, and made me unique and different, it taught me responsibility, and love for my family, as well as the horses. I trained them, and it was as if we could understand each other, i fine tune myself to others feelings and pick up alot from people...i guess you could call me a people studier....if someone is feeling a certain way, i can pick up on it and feel their pain/happiness/nervousness....sometimes its not so good, thats why i try to use meditation, a sense of washing away...and letting go...I love to camp out, in fact i own a small trailer that is sitting on a piece of land near the potomac river, its acutally a big campground, its my paradise, and my get a way spot, theirs lots of woods to go hiking in, and nature to be adored, usually people ride golf carts around the park...alot of people go there too, the whole park is surrounded by the river, theres cliffs that people jump off from tehre that are 90ft from the water!! i've jumped before, i am a big dare devil....always have been since a young kid, i loved rollercoasters and bunji jumping!! i like to walk on the wild and dangerous side....i've tried and dabbled into a lot of things in my life....and i dont regret none of it....my camper is all set up, i've got grateful dead bear door beads from www.hippieshop.com also glow in the dark groovy peace signs on teh walls and ceilings...i've got blacklights disco ball...its all shagged out...and the all time greatest party spot....theres also a fire pit, thats where im usually at in the night time, if im not out skinny dippin in the river, lol...i've been swimmin on some cold nights when no one else would...lol i really do love the water especially when im in my fantasy world:) i love to have fun, and get away from reality every now and then...its a nice vacation. im very spiritual, i belive in evolution i dont really buy the whole adam and eve story...however, incase you didnt know, there was another woman created before eve...if your into that stuff....her name was lilith, and she wanted equality, half and half, man and woman....but they wouldnt have it and banished her and created eve....to me im more into the big band theory...atom and egg collide causing supernova blast, and creation of the planets...its pretty crazy how the whole thing is set up....its almost like there has to be some mastermind behind the veil...or could it just simply be natures laws???

Couldnt agree more with you fleaflicker. Late 80s into 90s and Jerrys passing were the low point for the band and the fan base. anyone thats been to a Phil or RD show in the past few years or the Dead 03, 04, can tell you when theyre in that groove its better than ever. Cover band???? Hardly!!! The fans are different too. A lot of old timers (like me) are back on the bus and the youngsters seem to have that spirit of long ago. Of course we'll never replace the 70's. On a good night it was bettern the best sex. The interplay between each other, the sometimes silent, somtimes thundering ques, the ability of any one member to lead the rest of the band down a new path with a simple phrase or chord was improvisation at its finest. Never stuctured, always right on the edge. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. On a bad night like a plane crash. Did someone say coverband??? Who else can pull off Merle Haggard and the Stones in the same set. The mix of country, folk, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and straight ahead rock and roll have never been equalled. Uncle Bobo said it best "Theyre not only the best at what they do, theyre the only ones who do what they do" And then there was the cat in the GD movie "The bottom line is quite simply stated, there is NOTHING like a Grateful Dead concert
