Trivia questions, who wrote that song, when was the last time the Dead played Deer Creek, etc.
WOS:Grand Lid Crashes Which Night Last 5?
was that the second or first night? during which song? someone asked me. I can not remember, & I was there!

I remember having that in the spring '90 run of NE... i wanna say it came to me in Hamilton and i parted with it in Albany... but i may have lost it later on.
What I do recall , as you stated, was the incredible totality and the handcrafted originality.
Best I can recall about the origin of it is that it came from west coast people because they were who i settled in a grooved with once the Lucy kicked in heavily. I left with that book and I cannot help you any further... unfortunately...
However, youre not insane or being akashic-spaced... it existed, i had it and it was enjoyable.
Best hopes to you in your quest ~

Where was this dark star performance from
Ok, my question regards the "greyfolded" album. For those who don't know, its a compilation of different dark star performances, the tracks themselves are parts of different DS performances mixed together. The track in question is titled "transilence". It starts out with the band singing "the transitive nightfall of diamonds" (although Jerry alone says diamonds), then theres some really spacey guitar riff. Does anybody know where that specific performance is from? I've been trying to look on my own every once and a while for a few months, and then it dawned on me to ask here. I would appreciate any information.
Peace,
michael

U No GD History?
2 Qs:When/where was the last 2 set GD show (post 75) without Drums?
All GD shows were different, but three 2nd sets came very close to being the same, 2 in particular were almost identical, within a space of 6 weeks. Which 3 shows were they?
I put these questions in another topic, sorry.
Correct answers get a prize!

Hey econ_grad, part two...
Deadbase suggests 131 shows from 1994 through the end of the database (and the "Grateful Dead", as the rest of the guys don't use the name since Jerry's passing) @ 1995. My copy of the Cosmicbadger SuperGroovy Holistic Spreadsheet shows 129 shows, not sure where the difference is vs Deadbase but regardless the number of shows is substantially more than "none". Send me a PM with an email address and I can forward you a listing, or you can noodle around Deadbase and get the listings you need.

I know you rider
Hello All, I am wondering where I can find a version of I know you rider that I heard on XM the other day. It was a really early version with a faster beat, it almost had a 60's beach scene beat. Thanks in advance.
Dead Threadz!?
Okay, So I'm heading to the show in Worcester on the 18th and they todl me something about a quilt thing, anyone know anymore info about it?
Deadhead vs Quilters: it could get ugly...
Hi!
The Dead shows in Worcester are April 18th and 19th at the DCU Center. Y'all knew that already. This overlaps a day with the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo, which is also at the DCU Center on April 16th, 17th and 18th.
Cheers, MitD

Looking for a version of Tangled Up IN Blue...
I heard it on Sirius the other day...it's Jerry doing Tangled Up In Blue but it's super groovy and much faster than the standard way he usually does the song. Not sure if it's Jerry solo or JGB, but in the chorus the girls are singing "tangled up in Blue yeah, tangled up in blue" - that standard version usually doesn't have the "yeah" in the chorus. Anyhoo...if anyone knows this version and where I can find it I'd be super grateful!!! THanks!~Tam
tangled up in blue
its jgb, ive heard it from a buddy a few years back, and yeah, you can hear the girls in the backround.
Thanks Mr. Pid...
I will definitely check it out once I"m at home and can turn my volume up. I wish I would have written the info down while it was playing, I can hear it in my head, but every version I've heard during my search is the regular, slower version...and I want the groovy one :o)! Thanks again!!~Tam
Hard Too Handle
My all time favorite Dead jamming vehicle. I've heard maybe half that are listed in the base but I would like to know what folks who also like this tune believe is the best JAMMED version.
For the record, my vote goes to RI Auditorium, Providence RI 4/71
Don't decide till you hear that one, there are some killer soundboards out there. Jerry does some AMAZING things during the jam, easily equal to the DEW at Barton Hall.
Dave's Picks? Winterland Arena March 19 1977
I am just a neophyte folks..not a 'true' deadhead... I bought a CD recently it has Daves Picks on the cover, and, "Winterland Arena San Francisco, CA 19 March 1977," on the back. It's a two cd set. What is this? Somekind of bootleg? Thanks in advance for your help.
A recommendation...
Hey there,
I'm hoping that some one(s) with superior Dead knowledge to me can recommend me some albums similar in sound to Bear's Choice, and in particular the acoustic section of this album. I don't necessarily want complete shows, as I already have a few from through out the career of the grateful dead, and have found that sound and atmosphere prevalent on the first half of the above album most to my liking.
you might like reckoning
but canned music wasn't their forte - live stuff - in the moment was where they shined. There's one show you should definitely get - 10-11-80 from the Warfield
You can listen to it here - or download the pieces & burn your own cd

I've looked around but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Buffalo NY - April 21st show, 2009
Hello there,
My wife and I are Dead-friendly Canadian's traveling to Buffalo to see the Dead this April the 21st. It is at the HBSC arena. Can anyone recommend a hotel or other accommodation for us and or a friendly pre-concert gathering/hangout/bar close to the show?
Peace,
Playin' (Playing in the Tower with Eyes on Fire in El Paso with a Cat)
Response to ----- Dave's Picks? Winterland Arena March 19 1977
Hi jondflores,
It's Playing in the Tower with Eyes of Fire in El Paso with a Cat here. I think you likely (and hope you do) have some Dick's Pick's discs. To be brief these are generally very good (I have never been disappointed). I got my first, Dick's Pick's Volume three----the Sugaree and Franklin's tower (My favourite - blew me away and I was seriously hooked). Anyway, for me 77' shows are amazing. Dick's Picks Volume 15 is a favourite of mine (another 77' show). Anyway if you can go see the Dead this spring. I only ever made it to one show, but I will never forget it. Anyway hope that helps. P.S. go to www.nugs.net and check out the free stash area for some great dead shows and other great bands (not the best quality recordings but a great collection over their incredible run. I really like the field trip - 1970, I believe). The El Paso and China Cat/You Know me Rider are awesome---actually the whole show is incredible----the music is out of this world and so is the vibe.
All the best,
Playing in the Tower with Eyes of Fire in El Paso with a Cat
Daves Picks????
Near as I can tell there is no Dicks Picks volume for 3-19-77. Shame on this guy Dave. Not what we do round here. That entire show is available @ archive.org, the kind way.
Response to ----- Dave's Picks? ---- part II, oops and oh!
Hi again jondflores,Oops ---- I started playing around with you-tube yesterday and found many videos from the afformentioned field trip. Wow! It was 08/27/72. Peace.
Hi theotherone,
I'm not impressed with Dave either. Boo! But I will check out archive.org, thanks.

I am curious Bob....
What Show featured the most Dylan tunes and if the amount of tunes is tied for a number of shows, then length of song times would be tie breaker.
Thanks!

The Angel Orensanz Foundation show
I scored tickes for the Dead show tomorrow at The Angel Orensan Foundation and am I pumped! But I could use some advice on navigating, parking and dining the area. I will be driving down from NH and I have never been to Manhatten.
Bruce dates
Hello, all. Can anyone tell me what dates(year-s) Bruce Hornsby played with the Dead ? I' d really love to hear him jam with them. Can someone suggest cd's or tapes?Thanx
Hey Fly-N-EyeYou can start
Hey Fly-N-Eye
You can start by picking up Dick's Picks 9, Bruce at Madison Square Garden. Maybe not the best show ever but a great Jerry-Bruce riff on Tenessee Jed and a really fun Bruce/Vince/Phil jam going into drums. Fun Iko, as well.
I don't now the dates but Bruce tended to show up at the summer shows at RFK stadium in DC (he apparently lives in Virginia) during the last years.
Lookin' For an Old Deadhead Boyfriend
I'm looking for an old friend/boyfriend from back in the day. For the sake of privacy, I'll just say that his name is Ed or Eddie O. Went to graduate school at the University of Hawaii and the East-West Center circa 1982 - 1984. At that time, he had about 400 cassettes of the Grateful Dead, a Nakamichi deck, some awesome Klipsch speakers and had seen The Grateful Dead all over the world, at least 300+ times. Anyone at The East-West Center at the time would remember him 'cause he used to blast The Grateful Dead outta those Klipsch speakers for all to hear, day or night 'cause going to class was not his strong suit. :-). Just curious to see where he's at after 25 years of long strange trips. Thanks, all.

Gold Skull & Bones watch
I am trying to authenticate that Jerry Garcia owned and wore a Gold Skull & Bones watch and chain that I have and that has been in my family’s possession for the last 35 years or so. If you have any photos, print descriptions or personal knowledge (friend, family, entourage, crew, or band members) of him wearing it, please contact me.
Description: 10K gold Skulls & Bones chain with fob has a 1915 period pendent miniature watch in it. 10K gold watch chain made up of 6 small gold skulls connected with 8 gold bones with a large intricate gold skull containing a gold toned miniature watch - 14 inches - 129 grams in weight. A miniature of the original ones with a verge fusee watch made in the 1700’s. Very unusual! Exceptional workmanship! Thought to have been made for Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead fame by a jeweler that was a part of the drug culture celebrity scene circa early 1970’s.
You can view the Gold Skull & Bones Watch at http://skullbonesgoldwatch.shutterfly.com/
